About You

We are looking for an experienced digital, data and technology professional who has substantial professional experience in the field. You will have a strong understanding of technology landscape, including data, cyber security, supplier and contract management, web, mobile, applications, collaboration tools, desktop systems, cloud solutions, and devices.

You will be well-versed in applying techniques, frameworks, and standards for technology development, release, maintenance, and support, working effectively with both in-house teams and third-party suppliers. A comprehensive and continually updated understanding of digital transformation trends and user experience, alongside experience in engaging and managing third-party suppliers, is key to this role. You will also demonstrate the ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement in digital, data and technology across all levels of the College.

You will have experience of contributing to a director-level team, and reporting to boards, committees and the CEO. As part of your broad approach senior management, you will be able to contribute to the life of the College as part of the Executive Team, which has responsibility for strategic delivery and team leadership.

Relevant qualifications in design, development, management, and change methodologies such as PRINCE2, Scrum, ITIL, TOGAF, APM, or similar will be beneficial. It would also be desirable if you have experience in the membership, academic, or health sectors, with an understanding of their structures, governance models, and cultural dynamics.

 

About the Role 

This is the primary role with responsibility for the delivery and assurance of core digital, data, technology, and related functions at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, at both a strategic and implementation level. The post-holder will report to the College’s CEO, sit on the Executive Team, and contribute across the College via staff engagement and through a range of committees and boards, including the Board of Trustees.

Key to the role are three functions:

1. Ensuring the security and fitness for purpose of College’s digital, data and technology estate.
2. Designing the College’s strategy for digital, data and technology in support of the overall College strategy and overseeing its implementation.
3. Unifying all areas of technology responsibility across the College to ensure product development, processes and operations are aligned as a cohesive whole.

This role will be pivotal in growing the Help for Heroes email supporter base driving income and engagement from different audiences. It’s an exciting chance to be a part of a rapidly growing Individual Giving programme, to working with internal and external stakeholders to produce digital campaigns with advocacy and campaigning at the heart of what you do.

You will be involved in recruiting, engaging and converting the supporter community across digital channels, predominantly via email and DotDigital. What's on offer:

Job Title: Head of Grants

Location.  Remote, home-based work and occasional attendance in Edinburgh office.

About Us

The Veterans’ Foundation (VF) is an independent grant-making charitable foundation. It has established a substantial grants’ programme to support charities and organisations in the UK that provide charitable support to those in need among serving armed forces personnel, veterans, operationally qualified seafarers and their immediate families.  The charity has grown rapidly since inception in July 2016 and has to date (Oct 24) given away more than £25M to good causes and handed out around £1.6M to good causes each quarter for the past year. 

The VF supports a broad range of charities and organisations that deliver a wide variety of projects to members of the armed forces’ community including those that reduce homelessness, increase employment, provide welfare and medical support, increase confidence and social integration, as well as reducing dependence on alcohol and drugs.  The VF gives priority to charities and organisations who can demonstrate that they are directly involved in the provision of support to those in need, and that are well-run organisations of low to medium wealth while also recognising innovation.

Since inception, income has come mainly from the Veterans’ Lottery, however, individual and corporate donations have grown significantly, and we now have staff focusing on this too. 

The VF’s office is based in New Town in Edinburgh’s city centre.  The VF’s staff consists of 13 employees:  Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, 2 x staff in Finance, 3 x staff in Grants and 5 x staff in Fundraising.  We now seek someone to fill a new post as Head of Grants.

Today, 12 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer. We’ll stop at nothing to make sure they get the right care and support at the right time.

About the role

We’re looking for a motivated, communicative, and knowledgeable Public Affairs Officer to join our Policy and Influencing Team, to help us achieve the positive change children and young people with cancer across the UK, and their families, need in the health system. This means amplifying the voices of young cancer patients and delivering evidence-based campaigns that make change happen.

The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for supporting the Policy and Influencing Team with public affairs expertise to deliver the key components of our influencing work in England and UK-Wide (Westminster). You will help us influence the system for children and young people with cancer and their families, so we can change experiences of having cancer and ensure children and young people’s voices are heard.

This role is subject to a criminal record check. In the event of a successful application a basic criminal record check will be completed.

This role is a hybrid role, with frequent in-person presence in London required. As a London-based role requiring frequent travel within London, the advertised salary is reflective of our London pay scale.

We are currently looking for a skilled Business Analyst to join our team on a 1-year Fixed Term Contract to support a key system upgrade project. This role involves collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and our third-party implementation partner to ensure the successful upgrade of an existing system to its latest version.

Assert is a small team of advocates working as a project within Mental Health Resource charity and as part of the Kent Advocacy partnership. We provide high quality, issue-based advocacy and statutory IMHA services to individuals affected by mental health problems, often detained in medium and low secure units and in acute inpatient settings. We also provide community advocacy in West Kent, Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley.It can be a tough job, but in return you will receive competitive pay, training, benefits and have the support of a strong team. You will have the opportunity to expand on your existing skills and attributes required for the role. Training will be provided if you are not yet qualified as an IMHA.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and show confidence and assertiveness when required. You will understand the diverse needs of people affected by mental health problems and how these differ for those detained in inpatient settings from those requiring support in the community. You will need to be resilient, comfortable working within professional boundaries and have the ability to cope with sometimes challenging people and environments. In addition, you will have strong organisational skills and be able to work on your own initiative, as well as within a team.

You will have a natural confident and calm manner and key skills of honesty, trustworthiness, and respect for confidentiality.

You will be passionate about mental health advocacy. Ideally, you will have experience of working as an advocate, and if you are not qualified as an IMHA, you will be expected to undertake training. The IMHA training takes approx. 1 year. *

The role is offered on a full-time basis, however part-time hours will also be considered. You will be office-based in Maidstone with scope for hybrid working where practical. JOB SUMMARY

To provide statutory issue-based advocacy to people detained in acute psychiatric hospitals and forensic hospitals/rehab units across West Kent and community advocacy to people with mental health difficulties in the community in West Kent, ensuring that their views, wishes and needs are taken into account and expressed and heard.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To provide independent mental health advocacy to eligible patients in accordance with the provisions Mental Health Act 2007 as amended and as detailed in the Code of Practice to the Act

2. To provide independent, issue-based advocacy in the community as appropriate.

3. Ascertain the needs and wishes of clients and act only under instruction of clients.

4. To telephone and meet with clients on the ward or another convenient location to help them prepare for meetings and to attend appointments with them to speak on their behalf if required, take notes and ensure that they understand the proceedings.

5. To help clients understand what is being considered around their care, treatment and support and the impact of any decisions made.

6. For independent mental health advocacy, to explain to people what their options and rights are and to support them to communicate their wishes so that they can participate as fully as possible in the decisions affecting their care.

7. To liaise with, and on occasion to challenge, NHS, care professionals or local authorities as appropriate to ensure that due processes have been followed.

8. To raise any safeguarding issues in line with Mental Health Resource’s policy and procedures.

9. To maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with clients in accordance with statutory requirements, relevant legislation and in line with the requirements of our funders.

10.  To meet monthly targets for chargeable work, by service delivery and accurately recording details of work completed on the database in a timely manner.

Role Purpose

The Senior Accountant will be part of the Khalsa Aid Management Team and will report to the CFO.  You will provide financial leadership in all financial areas including production of monthly accounts; financial controls; general accounting; budgets; financial planning and analysis; policy management and adherence; compliance; risk; exchange rate management; key business and financial processes; cost management and auditing. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the organisation’s financial health, compliance and efficient operations. 

Key Responsibilities

Financial & Operational Management

• Preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics; including monthly Business Performance Report, KPI’s, and Management Accounts, Project Aid reporting as well as annual financial reports
• Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, setting goals.
• Present operational metrics to monitor progress on the efficient spending of KAI Charity Aid funds. Implement a programme of timely corrective actions where necessary thereby implementing best in class practices
• Ensure that financial records and systems are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and are compliant with Charity reporting requirements
• Ensure compliance with organisation policies and procedures, a robust controls environment is in place and that approval processes are adhered to
• Manage cash flow and exchange risk including proactive working capital management and accurate cash forecasting
• Direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting including foreign operations
• Ensure Management Information Systems are appropriate for internal, external and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate business processes, recommend and implement improvements

Team Management

• Provide leadership to the Accounts Assistant by providing clear goals and objectives.

Detailed tasks to be carried out:

1. Day-to-Day Financial Operations:
   • Monitor bills, invoicing, donations, and other transactions.
   • Oversee the work of the Finance Assistant.
   • Register invoices from suppliers and service providers for payment.
   • Handle various donation platforms (e.g., JustGiving, Enthuse, Worldpay, Donorbox).
   • Post and review month-end journals, accruals, and prepayments.
   • Process purchase orders and bills.
   • Answer supplier and donor queries.
   • Monitor email inboxes and confirm donations.
2. Banking and Reconciliation:
   • Enter payments in the bank for authorization.
   • Complete and check bank reconciliation for various accounts using XERO.
   • Monitor restricted fund movements.
   • Track and report fund utilization.
   • Maintain petty cash and handle cash/cheques.
3. Cash Flow Management:
   • ​​Monitor cash flow and ensure liquidity for overseas operations.
   • Inform Treasurers about fund requirements.
   • Arrange cash for overseas travel.
4. Payroll Duties:
   • Process monthly payroll, including RTI submissions and pension feeds.
   • Handle new starters, leavers, absences, and statutory leave/pay.
   • File P11D-B for benefits in kind.
5. Audit and Compliance:
   • Coordinate annual audits with external auditors and department managers.
   • Assist in writing and finalizing the Annual Trustee report.
   • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
   • Liaise with auditors and third-party contractors.
     • Assist with annual reviews from charity commissions and banks.
     • Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures.
6. Financial Planning and Analysis:
   • Support CFO in month-end and year-end processes
   • Assist in forecasting and budget preparation.
   • Conduct variance analysis and review balance sheet reconciliations.
   • Implement audit recommendations.
   • Stay informed about accounting software and technological advances.
   • Insurance – ensure adequate cover for insurance.

Qualifications/ Skills Required

• Recognised professional accounting qualification or enroute to qualification
• Educated to degree standard
• Work experience is essential – 2-3 years in a busy organisation, preferably a UK charity

• Technically and managerially competent with impact awareness of specialist areas including accounting, controls and governance, audit, ethics and risk management
• IT literate – Microsoft, finance and management accounting systems, ERP systems
• Experience in XERO and Gift Aid will be an added advantage
• Additional languages such as Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu would be advantageous
