We are looking for an engaging people-focused individual to build relationships with supporters of Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT). To achieve our mission we need to grow investment in conservation. As Philanthropy Officer you will bring your expertise in Major Gift and Legacy Fundraising to the team at SWT, successfully growing our donor portfolio and cultivating and winning major gifts in line with agreed targets and the Fundraising Strategy.
You will work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications, and colleagues in the fundraising team, and across the Trust to evolve and continuously improve philanthropy activity.
This role is all about long-term relationship-building and will involve engaging with a wide range of supporters of SWT to take them on a journey and achieve key outcomes including;
· Identifying donor segments to tailor activity towards different areas of interest and levels of support
· Cultivating trust in SWT and the way in which it invests funds to restore and protect Surrey’s nature.
· Creating a sustainable pipeline of funding for SWT from major gifts and gifts in Wills.
The role provides an opportunity for an individual with existing experience in philanthropic fundraising to develop and to help shape the philanthropy programme at SWT.
Our offices are in Pirbright, Leatherhead and Wisley and our hybrid working policy aims to provide a good work/life balance which can incorporate partial home working. We are seeking an exceptional leader and brilliant relationship fundraiser to join the Philanthropy department, leading the Major Donor team at Alzheimer’s Society. The same team doubled their income target last year!
This is a hugely exciting time to work for the UK’s leading dementia charity. The Major Donor Team is growing fast, and we have plans to significantly increase our income to fund critical dementia support services and research. Two ground-breaking treatments have recently shown for the first time that it is possible to slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Critical to our ambition is developing new partnerships with philanthropic supporters. We have a pipeline of new ground-breaking research & community projects in development that provide an exciting opportunity to grow funding from this audience, and a new major donor prospect pipeline and cultivation programme up and running.
In this role, you will develop and deliver the major donor growth plan, in line with the Philanthropy strategy to 2030, leading a brilliant team of major donor specialist fundraisers. You will develop new long-term, and transformational partnerships with philanthropic partners (both individuals and families) at a £500k+ and £1m+ level. You will be key to engaging them with the Society’s ambitious vision and exciting major programmes of work, spanning cutting-edge research, health inequalities, clinical trials, on-the-ground support, and participation for people living with dementia, and new life-changing dementia treatments.
Importantly, the role also provides the chance to deliver a meaningful impact on the lives of people affected by dementia, helping us to reach our goal of securing £5+ million a year from Major Donors by 2027.
Alzheimer’s Society is primarily a home-based organisation, with the possibility to use our London/Birmingham offices as desired, however, there are also hybrid and office contracts available, so we can be fully flexible. Growth, coupled with changing donor attitudes, means that MAG is working in an ever-increasing range of local, national and international partnerships. In response, MAG is looking for an exceptional Global Partnerships Advisor to strengthen its in house capacity to develop, monitor and manage its partnership portfolio in order to maximise the reach and impact of our work. This role will work closely with programme teams and the wider Policy and Strategic Partnerships (PSP) team, liaising with key partners in the mine action and disarmament sectors, with a particular focus on Geneva-based organisations. The successful candidate will build new and effective partnerships that can strengthen MAG’s activities, and lead the development of a global partnerships strategy to frame how and when MAG works with other actors to increase our impact and extend our influence.
The GPA will also work closely with programme teams to support staff working with partners at programme level, improving organizational capacity to develop and manage partnerships within a given country or regional context. This will be supported by the review and development of systems, tools, policies and processes that strengthen MAG’s ability to assess, manage and monitor national, regional and international partnerships in line with MAG’s 2024-28 Organisational Strategy. Communicating across the organization, they will also ensure information flows effectively to assist lesson learning, enhance best practice and improve efficiency of delivery.
The successful candidate will have excellent capacity development, project management, and strategic planning skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities at the same time. Previous experience of donor engagement and representation, as well managing humanitarian and/or development activity which has been implemented via local or international partnerships is essential and experience of working in humanitarian mine action would be highly advantageous. Fluency in written and verbal communication in a relevant second language (French, Arabic, Spanish) is also required. This is a fast-paced and challenging role, which will require high levels of initiative, pro-activeness and strong multi-tasking skills. With an ability to influence, motivate and develop colleagues and key stakeholder and ensuring effective communication, you will be organised, flexible and solution-focused.
Role location
The role will be based from home in mainland Europe with regular travel to Geneva as well as international travel to our office in Manchester and country programmes in South and Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, possibly at short notice.

Role Purpose:
This is a new, diverse and dynamic role within ShelterBox’s high-performing Philanthropy & Partnerships Team, working closely with the Corporate Partnerships Manager on a growing corporate partnerships portfolio. You will be integral to strengthening and growing relationships with corporate partners, driving the expansion of both the number of corporate partners, and the diversity of those partnerships beyond traditional models of financial support.
The successful candidate will support the Corporate Partnerships Manager to identify and build new corporate relationships, and steward existing partnerships, taking responsibility for a portfolio of your own mid-level partners and ensuring that all our partners are valued, engaged and inspired to continue supporting ShelterBox’s life-saving work.
This role will also be crucial in driving forward a diverse range of strategic corporate partnerships, looking at skill-sharing, resource-sharing, and strategic business advice at both a national and international scale.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a creative, collaborative and forward-thinking individual with strong writing, organisation, and partnership-building skills. Ideally you will have some experience in a corporate partnership role, although this is not an essential requirement. This position is for someone who can excel in a varied role, forming partnerships involving stakeholders across ShelterBox’s international staff and our partners in the private sector. It is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to work in third sector-private sector partnerships, solicitation and stewardship, whilst working at an ambitious disaster relief organisation.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Ensuring ShelterBox’s private sector supporters receive high-quality account management, managing a portfolio of your own small to mid-size organisations.
- Supporting with the unique engagement products ShelterBox has developed for corporate partners (such as our training offering, presentations, business strategy, supporting company events.). Within this, you may be expected to help deliver elements of our training, liaising with our experienced Learning & Development team to organise and ensure successful delivery of our varied offering.
- Work collaboratively to produce high-quality bespoke reporting to demonstrate the impact of support from corporate partners.
- Develop a strong understanding of ShelterBox’s corporate partners and their motivations in order to develop and deliver new and powerful ways to bring high-value supporters closer to ShelterBox’s work.
- Build strong internal networks, particularly with ShelterBox’s International Programmes Department and Brand & Content team, to develop a range of compelling assets and materials to showcase our work and engage and inspire our corporate partners.

5. Operations and Finances: Working with the COO to ensure the financial stability of the charity and protecting and managing the charity’s assets.
6. Impact: Overseeing the work of the Director of Impact to ensure that the charity strengthens its approach to monitoring and evaluation, and that all preparations are successfully completed ahead of a potential independent external evaluation of our core programme in 25/26.
7. External Affairs: Overseeing both our fundraising and advocacy workstreams, including the development of relationships with new funders and politicians and policymakers. Representing the charity at external events (including certain conferences and fundraising events), and safeguarding the charity’s reputation and values, ensuring that risks are properly recognised and mitigated.
Required Experience / Characteristics
- Clear commitment to the work of the charity, its mission and its values
- A proven senior leader, with experience of delivering against ambitious targets across multiple departments or programmes and working with a Board of Trustees or directors
