An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Policy Advisor to join our dynamic and well-respected Policy and Public Affairs Team.

We want to ensure people affected by dementia benefit from progress in research, by providing evidence and insights to influence decision-makers. This ranges from making the case to increase investment in dementia research, making the case for earlier, more accurate diagnosis of the diseases that cause dementia, through to preparing health systems and to be ready for future dementia treatments.

We work closely with key stakeholders, including government and other decision makers, to shape policy on dementia prevention, research and access to future treatments.

At a historic time in the field, with the first drugs that tackle Alzheimer’s becoming available, this is a fantastic opportunity for the post-holder to develop specialist knowledge, working closely with the Policy Manager, and to contribute to significant projects that can change the future of dementia.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Develop and maintain up to date and detailed knowledge of the policy landscape for a given policy area to position Alzheimer’s Research UK as a thought leader and enable us to effect positive change.

· Proactively identify and develop opportunities to engage with relevant stakeholders.

· Co-ordinate and manage assigned projects within the policy team.

· Gather and synthesise necessary evidence, including statistical information, health policies, and scientific outputs to develop insights, working with colleagues across the organisation as appropriate.

· Use insights to develop a range of outputs, such as scoping activities, briefing documents, literature reviews, reports, summaries and presentations for internal and external audiences..

· Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to help shape, deliver and influence the outputs of the projects, ensuring ongoing good communication with key stakeholders.

· Use public and patient involvement approaches to support insight development as appropriate.

· Analyse, interpret and present data using both quantitative and qualitative techniques as appropriate.

· Contribute to a range of submissions to government departments and their agencies, parliamentary committees, and other UK and international organisations as appropriate.

· Help develop and roll-out influencing and project ideas with key audiences that deliver against Alzheimer’s Research UK’s policy objectives.

· Support the work of Public Affairs colleagues to strengthen existing and emerging relationships with political and other parliamentary stakeholders. This will include helping to draft parliamentary questions, promoting tweets, sharing insight across and beyond the team.

· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Policy Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Roles that are classed as part of the Agile ways of working are not able to claim any costs for Mileage/Travel on Public Transport, Accommodation and/or Meals.  This includes when attending the office for various meetings/events.

Chance to Shine is a national children’s charity. We change young people’s lives through cricket giving them the opportunity to play, learn and develop through the sport. We keep them physically active, teach them vital skills like teamwork, communication and leadership. And above all, they have fun. 
 

Chance to Shine takes cricket to new places and uses it to ignite new passions, teach vital skills, unite diverse groups, and educate young people from Cornwall to Canterbury to County Durham. 
 

Since 2005 our Chance to Shine Schools programme has helped reverse the decline of cricket in state schools with millions of boys and girls in over 13,000 state schools playing and learning through cricket. Chance to Shine Street supports young people in under-served communities to access and benefit from cricket in a free, inclusive, fun and fast-paced tape ball environment. 
 

The Director of Strategy Implementation is an exciting Senior Management role which will help to deliver Chance to Shine’s strategic plans and further our ambitions for young people. 
 

In February 2024 we launched Limitless Futures, a four year strategic vision that outlines our ambitions to further improve wellbeing amongst young people, grow from working with 600,000 young people a year to one million by 2028, and continue to prioritise underserved communities (young people in areas of economic disadvantage and those who are inactive). It is based on extensive consultation with young people, teachers, families, delivery partners, coaches and others. It is underpinned by clearly defined goals and KPIs, and accountable to Chance to Shine’s Board of Trustees. The person in this role will work collaboratively with Senior Management colleagues and the wider team to deliver on and refine these plans. 
 

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and efficient individual with a strong track record in collaborative working and delivering on ambitious projects to join a small and dynamic team. The person in this role does not need to have an understanding of cricket but must be driven to achieve ambitious plans to support young people’s wellbeing and development.  

We operate flexible working and as such team members currently work from the office (The Oval, London) on average about 2 days per week. This post-holder will need to be flexible as an when it is required to attend meetings, mostly in London but elsewhere around the country. 

 Please note that this role is a 12-month fixed term contract, less if the person you a covering returns from maternity leave earlier.

Purpose of the role 

 

The Director of Strategy Implementation will be part of the Senior Management Team and will work closely with the Chief Executive. 

The person in this role will oversee the implementation of the second year of strategy plans for Limitless Futures. They will collaborate with Fundraising, Operations, Communications, Finance and Impact colleagues to ensure progress is tracked and goals are met. In particular, they will work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure the fundraising plan needed to deliver this strategy is aligned to the wider organisations plans. 
 

The Director of Strategy Implementation will also own the delivery of specific projects to support the strategy. For example, but not limited to: design and implement a volunteering programme; develop a funding plan to increase the scale of work in secondary schools; embed youth voice practices into Chance to Shine work.

Insight and evidence underpin Chance to Shine’s strategy, and as such, the Director of Strategy Implementation will line manage the Head of Impact & Evaluation and provide guidance to the Impact team. 
 

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Strategy Implementation responsibilities include: 

·       The line management of Head of Impact & Evaluation, providing broader support to the Impact Department (three people) 

·       Providing guidance and advice to the Board, Chief Executive and Senior Management team on matters relating to Strategy and Impact.

·       Working with the Senior Management Team to ensure key organisational strategic aims and objectives are achieved within respective departments.

·       Leading on specific pieces of cross-departmental work which are of key strategic importance, including key Fundraising projects.

·       Working closely with the Head of Impact & Evaluation to ensure that we are leaders-in-our-field for demonstrating the difference our work makes to children and young people whilst always striving to improve.

·       Effectively maintaining existing, and developing new relationships with senior stakeholders, partners and supporters. 

·       Being a spokesperson for Chance to Shine, particularly with media, senior relationships and stakeholders

We run a small night shelter provision and a day centre from two sites in Edmonton, Enfield. These services were set up to meet the needs of those rough sleeping and on the cusp of homelessness in the borough to provide daytime respite and independent housing related advocacy and support. Our night shelter service is a static, single occupancy provision managed by the council where we have up to 6 beds for our clients who, predominantly, have complex immigration issues and NRPF. Our day centre provision is open 3 days per week and provides respite, a light food offering, access to IT, laundry and shower facilities for clients to access.

We are seeking a skilled and empathetic person to join our team as a Project Worker. The role will involve undertaking assessments, conducting housing-related casework, providing advice and advocacy and supporting clients who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping to identify and address the underlying cause of their homelessness. We work in partnership with a number of key local agencies to ensure that our clients are able to access the services and support they need at the time they need it. The role is predominantly based out of the day centre with between 0.5 and 1 day per week based at the night shelter to casework and support our clients there.

The role will involve:

• Supporting the general running of the day centre eg. setting up and packing down, ensuring daily food and drink provision is maintained throughout the day, supporting volunteers
• Assessing and conducting needs assessments for new clients
• Support clients to understand their situation and navigate services to resolve their issues.
• Supporting clients to search for accommodation
• Assessing the needs of rough sleeping clients and connecting with services including health, banking, substance misuse and immigration.
• Inducting night shelter clients and helping them to sustain their placement
• Managing a caseload of clients
• Accompanying clients to appointments where necessary
• Working closely with relevant partner organisations including specialist advice and legal support agencies.
• Providing high-quality housing-related advocacy and support to day centre clients, helping them to address the issues putting them at risk of homelessness or housing crisis
• Working with clients to gather relevant evidence and supporting them to undertake homeless applications
• Maintaining accurate record keeping and monitoring information and keeping detailed case notes via our reporting system
• Building, maintaining and managing positive and collaborative relationships with relevant housing options and assistance teams across councils (Enfield and Haringey in particular)
• Working collaboratively with local services, to identify appropriate support to meet clients’ wider needs. Making referrals and signposting clients as necessary. 
• Promoting the service in the local area, building relationships and developing outreach partnerships with relevant local and national agencies

The Role  

To support the Policy, Knowledge & Training team in the development of a wide array of knowledge resources (in written, visual, and digital form), and the design and implementation of creative communication strategies and mechanisms to effectively share these resources with various audiences across Open Society Foundations. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Work with the Associate Director and the Policy, Knowledge & Training team, members of Grants Management, and other Open Society stakeholders to develop, test, produce and revise knowledge resources (for example, manuals, training guides, guidance and policy documents, case studies, workbooks, videos, online learning tools, and other resources) for Open Society’s Salesforce-based grantmaking software, grants management compliance, and grantmaking policies. 
• Assist a team of Grants Management trainers to facilitate trainings, both independently and as a part of the Policy, Knowledge & Training team, for in-person and remote learning sessions.
• Organize resources, information and data into useable formats to meet the needs of end users – both within Grants Management and for the entire organization.
• Develop and maintain informational resources for Grants Management, while ensuring appropriate controls are in place, adjusting for accuracy, completeness and readability. 
• Support the execution of communication strategies and mechanisms to share knowledge resources with diverse audiences inside Open Society. 
• Stay abreast of grants management and grantmaking policies and procedures, practices, and guidelines at Open Society, and assist stakeholders as needed to understand and adhere to these. 
• Build and maintain relationships with program and operational units across Open Society, helping to identify knowledge and experience within the organization that would be valuable to systematize and share broadly.

Job purpose:

Knowledge, qualifications and experience

Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic violence and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision. The Crisis Centre and rest of Nightlight Services (Café’s, Helpline, Daylight provision) is proud to provide urgent support, crisis intervention and emotional support to people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire as an alternative to statutory pathways. We provide support to adults across Hertfordshire 7 days a week, 365 days a year through our helpline, crisis cafes and 24/7 Crisis Centre. We aim to provide a safe space for people in crisis to talk and feel supported, be listened to without judgement, access relevant support with problem solving and facilitate access to external services when necessary.

As a member of our diverse team, you will work closely with service users in crisis by using a person-centred approach to ensure that each individual is supported with dignity and respect. About the Role

The Crisis House Support Worker will be a key member of staff supporting the delivery of the Nightlight Mental health Crisis Service.

Alongside other members of the Crisis Centre team, providing effective operational leadership delivering the Nightlight Mental Health Crisis Centre Service. Taking part in a rota which covers 24/7 hour service, 365 days a year. Drawing upon your own lived and/or professional experience (where applicable,) in order to provide a mix of face-to-face, therapeutic and holistic support for those accessing the overnight bed based provisions and supporting the operations of the Nightlight Crisis Helpline during its hours of delivery. Working closely with other staff as part of a team in supporting the development of quality Crisis Support and instilling Hertfordshire Mind Network’s values throughout the provision.

Whilst experience is advantageous, the most important thing to us and the people we support is having the right values, skills and commitment to delivering high quality, person centred mental health crisis support.

Key Responsibilities

• To provide emotional support and work towards developing, flexible and realistic crisis/person-centred plans with Service Users.
• To work within agreed guidelines with and for Service Users, whilst being guided and supported by Senior Staff (as well as the Leadership team) in regards to documents/plans such as: Assessments of Need, Risk, Crisis support plans and Review forms.
• To draw upon one’s own lived experience as appropriate (If applicable), as to promote the delivery of person centred support.
• To provide immediate and appropriate advice and information to clients as to support with crisis prevention.
• To liaise with Nightlight management and external services such as: police, ambulance service, Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, Single Point of Access, Safeguarding Out of Hours Service, Mental Health Liaison Teams, Adult Community Mental health Services, etc. as needed in terms of accepting referrals and proactively recognising the indicators of deteriorating mental health and facilitating appropriate support.
• Complete appropriate signposting/onward referrals to both internal and external services in accordance with identified needs and risks.
• Ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standards at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
• Arranging transport for service users to facilitate access to services as needed.
• Assisting with house keeping/cleaning tasks as necessary and reporting any maintenance problems in line with policy and Health and Safety standards.
• Support clients with activities of daily living as required.
