The Empowerment Group supports individuals aged 14+ of Black heritage in the UK, facing mental health challenges through online therapy.

The Role:

You will hold lead responsibility for the charity’s new business opportunities and income generation, ensuring the development opportunities are effectively maximised.

As Fundraising Officer your responsibility would primarily be to identify and complete tenders for contracts suited to the work of our organisation both locally and nationally. Your responsibility would also include identifying and completing trust funding applications to Trust funders. You would be responsible for developing fundraising programs/products, recruiting individual and corporate sponsors and encouraging support through promotional activities.

Key duties include:

• Develop the business fundraising strategy to include methods on how to engage potential donors, including single events and detailed campaigns
• Identifying contracting opportunities and funders where our work aligns
• Develop and maintain relationships with potential bid partners and funders
• Writing contract tenders and bid proposals
• Develop, organise, and deliver fundraising events where applicable
• Research potential individual and corporate donors
• Assist in planning and coordinating events to raise income and coordinate activities of volunteers and interns related to event planning and execution
• Maintain complete records of funders and manage regular funder communications including project reports
• Support in completing new and existing monitoring and bi-monthly performance reporting to the CEO

About you:

You will be an experienced fundraiser who can demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will have extensive experience in contracts and tendering with local councils and government where the majority of opportunities will arise.

Your knowledge, skills, and experience will include:

• Demonstrable track record as a successful fundraiser and business development professional in the charitable sector.
• Knowledge of the charitable sector, funders, council and government contracts.
• Understanding of the experiences of people who live with significant mental distress and the impact of trauma, racism and discrimination on mental health.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced events specialist with a genuine passion for fundraising to join our Fundraising Events Team to help us create and deliver memorable experiences for our donors. 

The Fundraising Events Team is a passionate team of specialists responsible for creating and delivering a combination of income generating and engagement events. We generate valuable funds through a portfolio of fundraising dinners, golf days, a clay shoot and other events; and deliver a range of engagement opportunities for the Philanthropy & Major Giving and Corporate Partnership teams to attract, retain and thank our supporters. The Fundraising Events team plays a significant role in supporting income generation across the wider Fundraising Team.

What you will be working on? 

As an events manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of an annual portfolio of events that inspire, motivate, and develop support for the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality stewardship opportunities and maximising income potential from fundraising activities.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy & Major Gifts teams to ensure we are delivering great experiences for our supporters.

Your key accountabilities include:

• Project managing and delivering events from conception through to completion, ensuring events achieve the agreed KPIs and ROI.
• Leading on all details of the event production (including guest and supplier management, production of printed materials, briefings, sourcing and managing of prizes for fundraising events, supplier liaison etc)
• Responsible for budget management and accountable for achieving financial targets of agreed events.
• Develop relationships with key event suppliers and manage partnerships, including fundraising committees, to achieve the best possible outcomes for the charity.
• Work as an active member of the Fundraising Events team, feeding into wider team plans and working across the Fundraising team to deliver joint projects.

We’re looking for someone with

• Demonstrable experience of delivering and managing successful fundraising or profit-making events. 
• Experience of budget setting, budget management and delivering an efficient return on investment.
• Ability to create and deliver operational plans, with an eye on the bigger picture, as well as operational detail. 
• Experience of successfully working to deadlines and targets. 
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders both internally and externally.  

• Experience of working with a customer relationship management (CRM) database.

Role Purpose:

This is a brand-new position that has been created to increase Mellon Educate’s capacity to secure grants on a global scale. The Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying suitable funding opportunities and coordinating, preparing and writing funding applications.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the development and coordination of a new Soundabout volunteering programme, this includes:

• Research current best practice in with a key focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

• Work with the Soundabout staff and practitioner teams to identify potential volunteering opportunities.

• Work with CEO to develop a volunteering strategy for Soundabout.

• Design and development of a new volunteer programme at

  Soundabout, including new systems for recruitment, organising opportunities, and monitoring and supporting volunteers. This includes reviewing and updating existing volunteer handbook and related policies with the Operations Manager.

• Recruitment, interview, and induction of new volunteers.

• Tracking and organising volunteer training, DBS check, and other

  safeguarding requirements alongside colleagues.

• Regular liaison with potential and active volunteers.

• Create bespoke plans with volunteers who would like to work

  towards personal goals / aims.

• Ensure progression tracking, tracking of placements, and

  evaluation is undertaken to determine the impact and celebrate

  volunteer achievements.

• Organise virtual and in-person social events, celebratory events,

  and other ways to ensure volunteers feel valued.

• Work with colleagues to look strategically at the incorporation of

  the Emerging / Graduate Emerging Leaders programme within a wider volunteering programme.

Must Have:

• Experience of volunteering either as a volunteer or in the co- ordination of volunteering opportunities.

• Project work experience including administrative skills, problem solving skills, using your own initiative and planning tasks (whether paid or unpaid).

• Excellent IT skills and experience of using Office 365 and willingness and ability to quickly pick up skills in using our other IT systems such as Salesforce, WordPress, Enthuse, Mail Chimp.

• Events planning and organisation experience.

• Flexibility in your approach to the work, to adapt to what the

  project needs are within your paid hours.

• A friendly, professional, and able communicator, who feels

  comfortable talking to a wide variety of people, in-person, by

  email, phone and through social media.

• Someone who sets themselves a high standard in the quality of

  their work and who has a willingness to learn from others.

• An ability and willingness to be an excellent champion for

  Soundabout who is prepared to get involved in our events and

  campaigns.

Developing relationships with supporters will be one of your strengths and you’re passionate about providing the best supporter experience for supporters across the charity. There’s lots of scope and potential for you to make a real difference and achieve considerable success in this role.

The post holder will be working as part of the Individual Giving team in the Commercial Directorate which includes Legacy & In Memory, Supporter Care and Individual Giving.
