As our Senior Accountant & Finance Business Partner, you will play a crucial role in providing financial insight, advice and support to key stakeholders across the organisation. You will be a trusted adviser to non-finance teams helping them to understand financial data and make informed decisions. You will be a key element of the high-performing and credible finance team, supporting both the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant and the Assistant Accountant in operational finance and in ongoing delivery of accurate financial information on which the business partnering relies.
To be successful in this role you will have strong analytical skills, providing financial analysis, forecasting and budgeting advice to drive performance and operational efficiency. You will have the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, collaborating with a variety of stakeholders across the RCR. Having strong commercial acumen, you will be able to communicate with and influence a range of audiences effectively with an understanding that strong, reliable financial data is the foundation of a successful business and is a primary deliverable.
You will be a pivotal player within the finance team delivering an excellent service to teams across the RCR. What you’ll do:
- Deliver a decision support service to managers and directors to deliver improved financial performance outcomes for the RCR.
- Ensure that partners use effective financial controls over their spend and income conforming to RCR’s policies and to optimise RCR’s outcomes.
- Support the partners in the production of outturn forecasts, budgets and multiyear financial plans that conform to RCR’s financial needs.
- Provide effective analytical insight and advice to partners and Head of Finance to maximise the return on investment and support for implementing change to improve outcomes.
- Supporting RCR’s regular financial and non-financial performance reporting with analytical advice, insight and commentaries.

What you’ll need:
- Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc)
- Experience of both financial business partnering role and accounting role.
- Excellent commercial skills, including the ability to lead or support negotiations and to influence and motivate others.
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical/non-professional audiences.
- An enquiring and analytical mindset with the ability to spot risks, to dig further to follow up on problems and work through issues to offer practical solutions.

The Director of Professional Services is responsible for our professional affairs activities, overseeing the creation, maintenance and application of relevant standards through our professional affairs committee, and certification and accreditation schemes. They are also responsible for member recruitment and management, ensuring we continue to attract new RSS members and partners, and that their needs are met. They also oversee a range of activities that engage RSS members (including groups that bring members together on a topic or geographical basis, RSS honours and awards, and our volunteering opportunities), securing both our impact on society and member retention.
Informed by an in-depth understanding of the needs of members and prospective members, the Director manages these activities strategically across the organisation, bringing relevant staff together within small teams working on defined goals that support our objectives, foster a sense of value and community for all members and ultimately lead to the growth in membership and impact of the Society.

Background to School Food Matters
School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.
Young Marketeers
This much-loved programme was started in London in 2012. It is now running in 12 cities across England and is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for three years. The programme provides hands-on opportunities for children from primary schools to grow fruit and veg from seed to sell at their local market. Young Marketeers is also a platform for School Food Matters to promote food education to schools and communities as a way to support children to live happy and healthy lives. Children learn the art of growing veg from seed, and market traders will share their secrets on how to create a winning market stall. Primary schools will be visited by our gardener in March/April and then again in May/June and receive further tips on how to ensure a bumper crop. And in July, they head to the market to sell their produce, and to meet the mayor!

· Recruit four schools to take part in Young Marketeers

We are looking for someone who is a real team player and able to lead teams working in a matrix team structure. Whilst an understanding of facilitator best practice and experience of timetabling a high volume of events, all with different requirements is desirable, these are not essential criteria for applying for the role and relevant training will be provided.

You will manage a pipeline of global trusts and foundation applications, while providing support to proposals of other kinds driven by the wider fundraising team. Ideally you would be experienced in drafting compelling narratives for complex charitable causes, ideally in climate, environment or food systems transformation.

Salary: Depending on experience and location, e.g. in the UK between £35,000-£38,000 (based on 1FTE)
Responsibilities
International income generation
-
Together with the International Fundraising Manager and Philanthropy Director, contribute to and implement a 3-year international grants strategy, and develop annual and quarterly objectives and key results (OKRs).

Research and prepare proposals for potential major donors, trusts and foundations, and where relevant, corporate opportunities, and coordinate international and joint bids.

Develop a pipeline of existing and potential trusts and foundations.

Identify and develop processes and systems to support the growth of grants income.

Identify suitable projects within the organisation’s plan in order to build cases for support and satisfy donor wish lists.

Develop pitch packages and stories for different audiences, in particular donors motivated by reasons other than animal protection.
Country-specific and infrastructure support

Contribute to the international fundraising calls, support ProVeg country directors and national fundraising teams with grant applications.

Identify and develop processes and systems to support the growth of trust and foundation income.

Help build the global grant-related infrastructure, including but not limited to:

Guidelines/policies

Compliance

Strengthening CRM use and internal coordination

SOPs

Project impact evaluation with the Monitoring Evaluation & Learning team

Finance tracking with the Finance Manager

Qualifications
Required:
-
5+ years of experience of grant writing at a not-for-profit, preferably an international NGO.

A track record of identifying and securing significant, and/or multi-year, five-figure+ funds from trusts, foundations and/or corporates, ideally also having obtained unrestricted (‘core’/operational) funding.

Expertise in the development of grant application strategies and proposals (including strategic prioritisation of projects and opportunities).

Experience with different grant-making bodies and requirements.

Ability to turn numbers, outcomes and goals into a compelling story.

Evidence of successful proposal writing, from start to finish, as well as experience with writing concise reports.

Excellent project-management and organisational skills, including documentation of work, with the ability to lead and work collaboratively.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including confident demeanour and experience in engaging with a diverse range of people.
