Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of economic abuse and transforming responses to it. Our vision is a world in which all women and girls are economically equal and live their lives free of abuse and exploitation.

Economic abuse is a form of coercive and controlling behaviour: 95% of women who experience domestic abuse will experience economic abuse. It limits their choices and ability to access safety. 

We work in partnership to ensure women have access to and control over their own economic resources. We focus on four strategic priorities: public education and awareness-raising; transforming professional responses; ensuring systems do not inadvertently facilitate economic abuse; and influencing policy.

Our work is led by victim-survivors of economic abuse (Experts by Experience). Their lived experience and knowledge shapes everything we do. We are always learning, and we share our expertise via a national working group and an international network of practitioners, researchers and policymakers.

Founded in 2017, we are purposeful and agile in approach. We led the successful call to recognise and define economic abuse within the UK Parliament’s Domestic Abuse Bill. This has created a framework and momentum for change. Our aim now is to ensure that policy and practice recognises economic abuse so that victim-survivors are supported to achieve economic justice and abusers are held accountable for their behaviour.

About the Compass Project

The Compass Project Coordinator will work as part of an exciting new partnership between Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA), Living Without Abuse (LWA) and RISE (Refuge, Information, Support & Education). The Compass Project seeks to develop best practice responses to economic abuse within the coordinated community response by working with local professionals to help them understand and respond to economic abuse.

About the Compass Project Coordinator role

The Compass Project Coordinator will work to:

• Act as a point of contact for stakeholders across the Project areas (Brighton & Hove, Leicester, Rutland and Leicestershire), coordinating stakeholder engagement and access to training and resources. 
• Work closely with the Interim Women’s Sector Manager to coordinate and implement the Compass Project in pilot sites.

The Compass Project Coordinator will:

1. Collaborate with Compass Project Partners to:

• Support the coordination of training and dissemination of resources to professionals across the two pilot sites.
• Identify and engage with local lived experience groups and women with experience of economic abuse, ensuring inclusion of women from minoritised groups, to inform and guide our work.
• Develop and maintain key working relationships and partnerships with various stakeholders and partners across the two local sites including the facilitation of links with money and debt advice services, and local financial services.
• Support the collection of qualitative and quantitative data from the network for the purpose of project and external evaluation.

2. Facilitating access to economic abuse training and resources:

• Develop and deliver tailored training sessions on economic abuse to enable frontline workers to recognise and respond to economic abuse.
• Work with Compass Project Partners to integrate relevant economic abuse content into existing resources.
•  Implement data collection processes to support the evaluation of the project.
• Ensure effective communication with the project group and coordination of activities across the two pilot sites. Promote and facilitate SEA’s established routes to support for survivors and professionals.
• Attend local VAWG/DA Network meetings in a consultative capacity as an expert for economic abuse.
• Work with the communications teams across project partners to effectively promote the project.
• Facilitate referrals for women to the Domestic and Financial Abuse Team at Lloyds Banking Group and other banks/building societies we have direct links into.

3. General Duties and Responsibilities

• As part of the Specialist Team at SEA, manage the info@ email account on a designated day.
•  Represent SEA in training and presentation requests.
• Contribute to evaluation reports and presentations as required for the Compass Project.
• To contribute to the promotion of SEA and its work and uphold its behaviours and values.
• To participate and contribute to team meetings and organisational development.
• To engage in learning and take responsibility for continuous personal development.
• To comply with SEA and MAP’s policies and procedures and legal requirements, such as provisions set out in the GDPR, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Equality Act 2010.

Person specification

We are looking for a domestic abuse and/or frontline community professional with an interest in developing expertise around economic abuse. In order to apply, you should have the following skills and experience:

Essential knowledge/skills/experience

• Knowledge and experience of supporting and working with victim-survivors of domestic abuse. Frontline experience of working with victim-survivors would be an advantage.
• An understanding of the coordinated community response to domestic abuse and commitment to all aspects of partnership working to improve the response.
•  A strong and demonstrable interest in economic abuse.
• Experience of developing and delivering training face to face and online.
• Strong communication and engagement skills.
• Experience of safeguarding and managing risk.
• Experience of working in partnership and managing relationships with voluntary and statutory sector agencies to enable their full participation in the partnership.
• Demonstratable experience of implementing project delivery plans with a range of stakeholders, and reporting on progress and risk management.
• Ability to produce high quality documents and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and on own initiative.
• A commitment to the values and ethos of SEA.

Additional information

• This role is home-based. A laptop and telephone are provided, and travel expenses are covered.

Financial Management and Strategy:

1. Develop and implement financial strategies to support the Students' Union's goals and objectives.

2. Lead on the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to the Board of Trustees, senior leadership and the University, including monthly management accounts.

3. Ensure efficient management of all financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and investments

4. As the senior manager responsible for finance functions, oversee recruitment, selection, induction and ongoing leadership of relevant staff. 

5. Analyse financial performance against budget and forecasts, providing variance explanations.

6. Provide a set of local reports to operational leads each month to enhance the quality of decision-making by the organisation’s staff.

7. On behalf of the Senior Leadership team, lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with operational leads and elected officers to ensure realistic and achievable budgets.

8. Prepare financial forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.

9. Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis to support business planning, block grant discussions with the University, and external funding applications.

10.  Through the finance risk register and annual operational planning, identify financial risks and opportunities, offering strategic recommendations.

Compliance and Governance:

11.  Chair our Compliance & Risk committee, ensuring the Students' Union adheres to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including charity law, financial regulations, and data protection laws.

12.  Maintain and update compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated and adhered to across the organisation.

13.  Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, auditors, and legal advisors.

14.  Oversee the preparation and submission of statutory returns, including annual accounts and reports to the Charity Commission and other relevant bodies.

Financial Planning and Strategy:

15.  To oversee the payroll and ensure that payments and returns to the HMRC are completed as required, including monthly RTI.

16.  To ensure that all pension requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner.

17.  Work with the University of Northampton to ensure that Northampton Students’ Union is complying with UON internal audit recommendations.

Leadership and Management

18.  Lead and manage the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

About the role:

This role is a hybrid role with home working allowed twice per week. Your home office would be Chandlers Ford, however you would be expected to travel regularly to offices in both Basingstoke and Southampton. Travel expenses would be paid for these. As a Team Leader you will be:

· Work with Parents/Carers and hard to reach families, supporting them to build their own health/wellbeing and to meet the health, wellbeing and safety of their children.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity be in at the start of a new service funded by St Andrew Holborn, a local charity keen to support the provision of high quality advice services to meet the needs of people living within their area of benefit. The project is funded for three years which gives the opportunity to make connections with local partners and make a real impact on the advice needs of local people.​

Our service will meet the needs of local people by offering a flexible model providing advice face-to-face in community locations and remotely by telephone. Advice areas will range between welfare benefits, housing, employment, consumer and more.​

This role is hybrid working with the exact split between remote/onsite working being by agreement with the line manager to meet the needs of the project which could change over time. This role is not suitable for remote working only.​

We offer this as either a Trainee Adviser or Generalist Adviser role depending on your current advice work experience. If you are not currently an experienced generalist adviser, you will already have experience of delivering Adviceline or similar services and be looking for an opportunity to train as a Generalist Adviser. You will follow an accelerated training programme to develop the adviser skills and experience needed to complete the Citizens Advice adviser training programme within the agreed timeframe and provide high quality, holistic generalist advice. You will be supported to provide the high quality advice needed to meet auditing and funder requirements whilst delivering to funder targets. Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) helps people in local communities to change their lives for the better, through direct service delivery and by supporting the local voluntary and community sector.

This role will work to ensure that VAL delivers a broad spectrum of informed and effective support for local voluntary and community organisations, local public and private sector partners and services across Leicestershire county, influencing policy and promoting and developing volunteering and community action through the delivery of direct services and projects.

The role of a Step Down Worker is to provide ongoing support to IDVA clients where the risk has been reduced to a safer level or where a client is referred into the service as medium/standard risk.. The post holder will provide ongoing support which is bespoke according to need and will work in a trauma informed way providing holistic support to aid client's recovery from abuse. This post will be part of the male IDVA team and will work collaboratively with the IDVAs to manage case loads.

What you'll do:

Manage a caseload of clients who have been stepped down from high risk IDVA support
Provide ongoing support with a range of client needs including but not limited to attendance at court hearings, mental health, substance issues, and housing support.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system. Understanding of Marac protocols.
Support clients to obtain orders where needed and any other civil remedies available to them.
Working proactively with other members of the team to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities.
Attending all court and Case Management hearings with clients
Carry out administration tasks in line with the role as directed.
Supporting clients to set personalised goals in the form of a Safety and Support Plan.
Assisting in the recording and reporting of customer incidents.
Managing any ongoing risks and creating safety plans when required.
Raising concerns of any increase in risk levels to senior IDVAs.
Attend case management session with IDVA Team Leader
Developing productive relationships with partner organisations to improve service outcomes.
Adhering to lone working protocols and maintaining high levels of awareness in relation to the

Role summary

In this role, you’ll be a key member of our small leadership team helping to strategically drive engagement, and income generation.The right candidate will need to be highly resilient with exceptional political, negotiation and relationship development skills.This role includes shared responsibility for securing income that not only sustains our own charity but leverages in significant funding for the wider sector.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.
