The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is the world’s largest leprosy-focused organisation, a pioneer in our field, with over 150 years’ experience serving people affected by this disease. As a leading international Christian development charity, we work in 10 countries across Africa and Asia to defeat leprosy and transform lives.
Today, one person every two minutes is diagnosed with leprosy. It’s a disease of poverty, striking the most vulnerable. Left untreated, it causes permanent disability. Stigma means that people affected by this disease are often rejected by those closest to them.

The Communications Specialist will play an integral role in raising the profile of the school locally, nationally and internationally.This role will work collaboratively with the CEO and Principal to develop and implement the school’s communications and marketing strategy to promote the school’s work and reputation. Role Requirements
Income generation
To manage the Retail budget to achieve agreed targets:
• To maximise shop sales by achieving agreed targets both through donated stock and bought in/new goods. This involves proactive stock generation, optimum pricing, processing stock to agreed amounts and stock planning.
• Achieve Gift Aid sales conversion target through maximising new donor sign up and encouraging repeat donations.
• Achieve the shops Raffle sales targets through involving the shops team.
• To maintain high levels of shop presentation by merchandising and housekeeping to agreed standards as set out in the Shops Operations manual.
• Manage the stock levels of bought in/new goods, to include ordering of more stock as and when necessary and recording key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Assist in holding and attending Fundraising events to promote the awareness of The Children’s Trust.
• To source links with local communities to promote Retail in the community via media and other sources.
• Role involves a degree of manual handling in sorting and lifting of stock.
Administration and compliance
To ensure adherence to The Children’s Trust policies and procedures, in particular ensuring full compliance of the shops in line with all Health & Safety legislation, Trading Standards, Risk Assessments, Gift Aid, Raffle and all other legal or statutory requirements:
• To control shop expenditure through effective cost control of weekly expenses.
• To ensure minimum losses of both stock and cash by following bank and till procedures, and safeguarding the property of The Children’s Trust at all times.
• To adhere to all Policies and Procedures including those relating to the compliance with Health and Safety responsibilities, Gift Aid and Raffle.
• To be responsible for the daily management of Health and safety within the shops, completing daily checks and contributing to Risk Assessments.
• To complete all administration to meet the requirements, standard and deadlines for whom this work is produced.
• Embracing the change and development of new technology in the shop, for example The Loop (internal intranet) and Chariot (EPOS till system).
• Timely efficient responses to requests for information including voice and email messages.
• To fulfil any other agreed duties that may at times be reasonably required.
Personnel and Training
To ensure the Shops team are: recruited, retained and developed:
• Provides positive, visible and proactive leadership to the Assistant Manager and Shops Volunteer team.
• To manage all employees and volunteers within the Shop in accordance with the aims and values of The Children’s Trust.
• To be responsible for the daily management of the shop team, including contribution to performance reviews for any Assistant Shop Managers.
• To recruit, support and retain team of shop volunteers.
• Provide induction and training for both Assistant Shop Manager and volunteer team as and when necessary.
• Attend where appropriate, training courses relevant to the development of the role
• Promote awareness of relevant training courses and development opportunities to others within the team.
• Attendance at Retail Sales Meetings and responsible for cascading information to Shops team as appropriate.
• To assist the Retail Sales Manager in shop openings and closures.
• Undertake relief cover within The Trust’s shops as and when required.
• Carries out duties in accordance with Trust values.
Customer Service
To ensure customer care and quality of service:
• To provide excellent customer care through quality of service, dealing with complaints both efficiently and effectively, and having a good understanding of what The Children’s Trust does.
• Support other shops and fundraising colleagues as and when necessary.
• Adheres to all health and safety guidelines, including infection prevention and control.
• Provide evidence of a valid NHS Covid Pass or acceptable proof of Covid vaccination or medical exemption and all vaccinations (or medical exemption) required for the post.
• Adhere to manual handling procedures and complete mandatory manual handling training.
• Promotes the health and safety of others.
• Uses the incident reporting and risk assessment system (IRAR), to identify and report risks and incidents/actions if directed.
• Responsible for identifying and mitigating risk within the work environment.

Building relationships with other statutory and non-statutory agencies in local communities is vital to build referral pathways and provide a whole system approach to supporting individuals.
To carry out this work you will meet women in the community in your designated borough and co-locate with other agencies including the National Probation Service, as well as regularly attending Advance’s North London vibrant Women’s Centre/office space.
You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions within the North London area.

Summary of role

Remuneration Package: This role is Band C with a salary range of £33,500 - £43,000. Salary upon appointment will be commensurate with experience and in line with team members in equivalent roles.
As a Technical Specialist, you will focus on providing research and technical support on GBV across a number of SDDirect’s projects. Your role will involve providing research for our two helpdesks, including the Ending Violence against Women and Children Helpdesk (for UK government staff) and GBV AoR Helpdesk (for humanitarian actors). You could also be involved in providing support to knowledge products and guidance material, policy and programme guidance, specialist research, and monitoring and evaluation of GBV programmes.

About the role
Our Policy and Public Affairs team exists to develop evidence-based policies that we can use to help inform and influence Government and health service decisions relating to heart and circulatory diseases and research.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Campaigns Officer to join our award winning and high impact team during a very exciting time in politics. This is a new position, which will play a critical role in the development and delivery of activity aimed at getting the public involved in our flagship Hearts Need More Westminster influencing campaign. The role will also provide campaigns support for our work to influence the Devolved Administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on key issues affecting heart patients in each of the four UK nations.
You’ll work closely with teams across the BHF to proactively spot opportunities to mobilise our supporters and cross-promote other BHF campaigns, including our Customer Journey and Marketing teams, and will be responsible for drafting copy in multiple formats for warm and cold audiences. You’ll also involve and engage people with lived experience in our campaigns work, working closely with our Heart Stories and Patient and Public Involvement teams.
Working arrangements
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and one of four UK offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh or London). There will be an expectation to travel to the London office (if this is not your preferred location) at least once a month, with some travel to each of the other nation offices throughout the year.

About you
With an interest in advocacy and political campaigning, you’ll have an understanding of the relationship between campaigning and public affairs, and the value of mobilising the public to secure policy change. You'll have experience of campaigning, either for a political party or within an in-house public affairs and campaigns team or campaigns consultancy, with experience of using a campaigning platform or CRM software.
You'll have a solid grasp of the workings of the UK and Devolved Governments and parliamentary procedures. You'll have an understanding of the role of BHF and other health and medical research charities in general, and particularly in the political arena.
With a proven ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively, you’ll be able to draft campaign copy in a variety of formats, and especially for lay audiences. You'll also have strong organisational skills, including experience of project management. You will have experience of using social media and other comms channels for campaigning and will think creatively about how to engage our existing supporters and attract new ones. You’ll also be collaborative, with an ability to build strong relationships with key internal and external colleagues.

About the Role
The Head of Unlawful Detentions is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work on unlawful detentions, which comprises detention cases in North East Syria (NES), advocacy work with families of detainees in NES, support to those repatriated from NES, and our Guantánamo and Life after Guantánamo Projects.
Background on Unlawful Detentions Work
Reprieve was one of the very first organisations allowed inside Guantánamo. Since then, we have secured freedom for more than 80 men illegally detained without charge or trial, and we continue to support some of these men through our Life After Guantánamo project.
Reprieve also advocates for the release and repatriation of foreign nationals detained in camps and prisons in NES. We aim to ensure that detained individuals are treated in line with international law, and not subjected to the death penalty, extrajudicial execution, arbitrary detention, torture, or rendition. We also advocate for and support clients and their children after their release from arbitrary detention.
Through our work we aim to challenge and change flawed ‘War on Terror’ narratives and legal and political frameworks – including in the UK, Europe and the US – that engender state-sanctioned discrimination and abuse, undermine the rule of law and human rights, and create two-tiered layers of citizenship rights for ethnic minorities in Western countries.
About You
You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies using a dynamic approach in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—casework, investigation, litigation, political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in individual client’s cases and address structural rights violations.
You will be enthusiastic about working for an organisation with Reprieve's mission and vision. You will have a minimum of five years’ experience line managing busy and diverse teams. You have significant legal and casework experience and experience managing a complex portfolio of cases. You will also have substantial advocacy experience, an understanding of campaigning, strong writing skills, and excellent attention to detail.
You are a person with a high level of cultural competency, with direct lived or working experience with communities impacted by the so-called ‘War on Terror’ and/or relevant conflicts. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how racism and institutional discrimination affect our clients. You will ideally have experience working closely with clients, empowering them to play an active role in designing the advocacy and strategy adopted to address issues in their cases. You will have sensitivity to the risks faced by those with whom we work and a demonstrated commitment to acting in the best interest of clients. You will have professional maturity, flexibility, and a willingness to put clients and Reprieve’s mission above all else.
In addition to being conversant in relevant legal systems, you are abreast of the domestic, regional, and geopolitical developments that impact on detention issues in the areas in which we work. You will also have a good understanding of the political and legal context of human rights violations carried out in the name of ‘counter-terrorism’, particularly in the UK, Europe, and the US, and of gender and trafficking issues. You will have the ability to develop targeted strategies to influence the policies and public conversations in these jurisdictions.
Salary, contract and location
The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time.

Call for expression of interest - Health Systems Researcher to support data collection, analysis and report writing for the Uganda Eye Health Systems Assessment.
Title: Health Systems Researcher
Consultancy length: 32 days, over 5 months
Location: Uganda, hybrid working - Home working, office based, and field work (north and west Uganda, and Kampala)
Sightsavers is seeking an experienced and motivated Health Systems Researcher to support the data collection, analysis and report writing for a study which aims to assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of the eye health system. The results of this assessment will support the Ministry of Health and partners to (i) plan, prioritize key weakness areas, and identify potential solutions or recommendations for eye care interventions, (ii) include eye health systems interventions in eye care programme design and implementation, and into the general health system in Uganda.
The study is being conducted in two connected phases - the first phase, a desk-based review and analysis of existing documents and data, is complete and the report will be shared with the selected consultant. Phase 2 will be informed by the findings of Phase 1. Phase 2 will primarily involve collecting primary data using in-depth qualitative interviews with purposively selected stakeholders, analysing the data, and writing a combined report to address the aims of the assessment, and synthesise recommendations for improvements. A detailed study protocol for both phases is available and will be shared with the selected consultant.
This consultancy will support the second phase of the study - conducting in-depth interviews and FGDs (Focus Group Discussions), analysing these data, and writing the study report. The consultant will be expected to undertake detailed and rigorous analysis of the data and provide a study report. The consultant will work with the study investigators to review the analysis, synthesise conclusions and recommendations, and write the report.
This call is for an individual consultant, not a team. The consultant will be expected to participate in an initial assessment review meeting with the study investigators, which will take a half-day, followed by 13 days of data collection, 12 days of coding, analysis and report writing. Regular feedback and communication with the study team lead is expected to ensure quality and consistency. The consultant will then meet with the study investigator team to present and discuss the findings of the analysis for a further half-day; followed by 5 days to address any further questions, and 1 day to review and make any final edits.
In total, the consultancy will be for 32 days spread over 5-months. The consultant's work is envisaged to start in July 2024 and may continue until December 2024.
This is an ideal consultant will possess a post-graduate degree in discipline related to public health, health economics, social or behavioural science, or other relevant fields.
Further requirements include:
- Strong demonstrable expertise in health systems research.
- Familiar with, and demonstrable experience, in exercising concepts related to research ethics such informed consent, and confidentiality, and local laws and guidelines pertaining to research involving human subjects.
- Demonstrable experience in conducting i) qualitative interviews, ii) qualitative data analysis, and iii) writing up study reports.
- Proven ability to prepare compelling scientific presentations and written reports for a range or audiences.
- The consultant will have experience as a primary author on at least two peer-reviewed journal publication.

We are looking for a well-organised, highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a full-time Youth Worker (Youth Voice), supporting our mission to enable young people who are homeless, facing homelessness or unsafe to achieve independence and positive futures.
The successful candidate will work within the Youth Work Team to deliver our frontline drop-in service and support our weekly and monthly activities to all young people experiencing homelessness.
You’ll specialise in ensuring a diverse range of young people’s voices are heard, facilitating inclusive activities which increase youth participation across all our services and leading on the delivery of our youth forums. We have an ambitious plan to improve and accelerate our youth voice strategy and this role will be at the heart of this delivery.
You should be experienced in designing, planning and facilitating a range of activities and group work with and for young people and be able to work dynamically in a fast-paced day centre environment. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about youth engagement and skilled in bringing out the ideas, voices and opinions of young people to shape service delivery. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a background in running participatory youth projects, co-production, youth engagement sessions and/or community engagement.
The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys working collaboratively across our organisation. This role also includes working closely with our Campaigns, Impact and Policy team to ensure young people’s voices are at the heart of our external campaigning work.
Finally, you will also be committed to the safeguarding of young people and delivering an inclusive and trauma-informed service.
This role will be based at our day centre in Camden, with some travel to other New Horizon projects within London.
