What we are looking for:

· Knowledge of the policy and political landscape developed from previous experience working in a policy or public affairs role, either in government, the civil service, charities, or non-governmental organisations.

· Proven experience developing and delivering public affairs strategies and leading influencing activities.

· Proven experience producing policy papers and applying policy research skills, such as evidence gathering, analysis and reporting.

· Proven experience as a strategic and analytic thinker who can influence policymakers with persuasive arguments, policy ideas and campaigns.

· Proven ability to manage a wide range of internal and external stakeholder relationships, including at senior levels, and to engage with people with diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.

About this role:

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, the Communications and Policy Manager will support SIB’s track record of sector, government and media engagement, notably the high standard of publication set through its media partnerships with Tortoise and the Financial Times, its contributions to the policy landscape in the social sector, and its in-house data analysis and insight generation. This new post will contribute to SIB’s ongoing communications and policy work and its reach and influence.

Key responsibilities

1. Support the delivery of a comprehensive plan for our communications and policy activity, combining ongoing promotional communications, specific activities for funds and programmes, and proactively generated content and opportunities to influence

2. Co-ordinating with SIB partners in developing and delivering communication work, on major projects such as the Youth Investment Fund, the Recovery Loan Fund and the Enterprise Development Programme; ensuring that it is powered by data and customer insight of the highest quality

3. Keeping track of policy developments in areas of strategic importance to SIB, notably in social investment, youth, community energy and infrastructure investment. Writing briefings on key policy developments related to SIB’s strategic priorities, proactively identifying opportunities to further our policy agenda; also researching and preparing responses for relevant external consultations, using SIB data and evidence

4. Identifying, cultivating and maintaining relationships and partnerships with key policy, research and communications stakeholders

5. Attending and providing oversight to the Social Investment Forum, as part of SIB’s secretariat and hosting

6. Writing, editing and producing engaging and relevant content at pace for web, social media and e-newsletters, as well as earned and paid channels

7. Management of any external suppliers of communications and policy activities, including agencies, designers, consultants and think tanks

8. Working with the Marketing Manager, Marketing and Events Coordinator, Business Development Manager and wider team to deliver successful external events with customers, stakeholders and partners including attendance at Party Conferences.

9. To work in line with the organisation's values, principles and processes to achieve operational excellence.

Core competencies

• Significant experience at a managerial level in a PR, marketing, external affairs or communications role
• Excellent writing skills
• Good research skills, with an ability to absorb large amounts of information at pace, including in unfamiliar policy areas and produce cogent syntheses
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively teams across functions in an integrated way
• Good established networks through experience in a similar role, and a commitment to expanding those networks to support SIB’s strategic aims
• Experience of building effective media partnerships
• Good working knowledge of data-driven storytelling in a variety of outlets from organisation websites to mainstream media and confidence in interpreting data and understanding the key points to be drawn from it to gain traction in media and campaigning environments
• Experience of developing and delivering effective communications campaigns, including through a range of digital channels
• Strong planning skills and an ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Strong understanding of UK political context, especially as it concerns the social economy, and parliamentary process

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

In consultation and verified compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements of PETA, PETA France, PETA US, and PETA Science Consortium International e.V, the successful candidate will undertake the following:

​

• Independently research and interpret a variety of scientific, political, policy-driven, and other issues related to animal testing in order to further PETA’s goals

• Build networks and coordinate meetings with key policymakers and other stakeholders
• Write factsheets, white papers, reports, correspondence, and other literature
• Build relationships and maintain communication with key audiences, particularly decision-makers in the legislative and administrative arenas
• Lead meetings with parliamentarians, companies, and legislators and present at conferences
• Develop expertise in non-animal testing methods and draw upon the expertise of others
• Respond to correspondence regarding issues related to animal testing
• Conduct analyses of technical papers and legislation and translate scientific and legal terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
• Identify opportunities to provide public comments that promote non-animal testing approaches and lead the writing and presentation of these comments
• Represent PETA at public-speaking engagements, in debates, to the media, and to the general public

Qualifications:

• Degree in a related field – a master’s and/or PhD is preferred
• Experience working at a relevant organisation or institute, such as an animal protection organisation, the civil service, a regulatory agency, or a biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, or medical device company, is desirable
• Demonstrable experience of the functioning of Parliament
• Familiarity with the use of animals in laboratories, associated legislation, and alternatives to animal testing

The Policy and Campaigns Manager is responsible for leading on CLAPA’s campaigning and policy work across the UK.  This is a new direction for CLAPA and a key part of the role will be to develop a clear strategy and action plan to ensure a focused and targeted approach to this area of work.   

The post-holder is responsible for ensuring that work is delivered to the highest standard and that the wider staff team and board of trustees are kept informed on progress and development.

In this position, you will support the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Lead with the development and implementation of the organisation’s national influencing plan with a view to raising the profile and influence amongst policy stakeholders and decision-makers. You will conduct primary and secondary research to develop and be in support of policy priorities. You will produce reports on research findings and support with the delivery of events. You will co-ordinate influencing and campaigning activity. You will draft policy documents which include consultation responses, parliamentary debate briefings and summaries.
 
To be considered for this role you will have at least two years’ experience in a policy/research environment. You will have experience of public affairs campaigning. You will have experience of implementing public affairs plans and stakeholder mapping. You will be IT literate, with experience of using Microsoft Office and document management systems. You will have an understanding of parliamentary and legislative processes and knowledge of current social policy which relates to children and social policy.
 
You will have excellent communication skills and experience conversing with various stakeholders. You will have experience of preparing briefings, summaries and organising meetings/events/conferences. You will have strong time management skills and be able to work on your own initiative.

About the Council
The role of Council is to lead on the GOC’s mission to protect the public by upholding high standards in the optical professions.  The Council is composed of six lay members (including the Chair) and six registrant members (i.e. registered optometrists and dispensing opticians).  At least one member of the Council must work wholly or mainly in each of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  One Council member acts as a Senior Council Member whose role is to carry out the Chair’s appraisal as well as provide a sounding board for the Chair and serve as an intermediary for Council members, Executive and stakeholders as necessary. 

The successful candidate will contribute to Council by exercising oversight, ensuring effective corporate governance, and making high-level policy decisions. They will be able to operate strategically and impartially; listen, communicate, and influence effectively; exercise judgment; and inspire confidence and support amongst our stakeholders. 

Remuneration and time commitment

Council members are remunerated in accordance with our member fees policy (£13,962 per annum plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses) which is linked in the candidate pack.  The member fee includes time for reading and preparation.

The appointed member will be expected to commit approximately 2-3 days per month.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices at 10 Old Bailey, London, EC4M 7NG. There are occasional online catch-up meetings - these are currently scheduled on a Tuesday evening every 6-8 weeks, from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

Home based role and living within the relevant region or close enough proximity to be able to travel and meet the requirements of this role’ (subject to meeting homeworking assessment requirements, which includes a minimum broadband speed of 18Mbps) 

In this key role you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Negotiating Officer to manage and support our stewards, safety and equality representative networks across West Midlands and part of Cheshire, advising them in providing individual and collective industrial relations support to members, working both in and outside of the NHS.

You will work in collaboration with other health trade unions across the region.

You will work with the CSP regional team to recruit and organise members, influence on local workforce issues and promote physiotherapy.

You will provide representation for members at disciplinary hearings, grievances and disputes with employers, and provide general advice and information to representatives and members on issues such as pay, terms and conditions, and employment legislation.

With significant trade union experience at a senior level, and an understanding of NHS structures and government policy on health, you will have excellent communication, negotiation, training and presentational skills, combined with a strong collaborative approach and a thorough understanding of, and commitment to, equality and diversity principles and the ability to put them into practice.

To do that, we need strong relationships in politics and in government at a time where there is an exciting opportunity to shape the conditions for community business to thrive. The External Affairs Officer will provide essential support across the organisation by identifying key stakeholders and determining the most effective tactics to build and maintain relationships in both politics and government. This includes monitoring parliamentary and political developments to spot opportunities, drafting high-quality briefings, articles and press releases, as well as coordinating politically-focused events, such as those held at party conferences.

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Advocacy and Communications Officer to join our team. This new role is integral to amplifying our voice with decision-makers, including business leaders, senior officials in central government and regulatory bodies, and amongst politicians. You will help to shape public policy and drive our communications strategy.

We develop research, policy and practice in infrastructure investment, labour standards, climate change, transparency and accountability and local content in line with our mission to help reduce poverty.

As our ambitious and passionate Head of Advocacy and Communications you will have the opportunity to shape this new role, develop and implement a high impact strategy that communicates EAP and CoST, the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative impact and advocates it policy and practice to influence how climate resilient infrastructure is delivered to be reduce poverty. You will

• Be an aspiring leader, able to inspire, motivate and galvanise a small communications team able to draw in colleagues to help deliver each strategy.
• Have experience of developing an organisational communications and advocacy strategy, identifying key messages and approaches that are used to influence international and regional stakeholders.
• Have a track record in building successful partnerships with a flair and passion for advocacy that supports the aspirations of the organisation.

The appointee will also take on for the same role for CoST, the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative – a transparency, participation and accountability programme which operates in 20 countries and for which EAP hosts its International Secretariat

You will be working remotely with in-person team and board meetings usually held in London and occasionally overseas 5 to 6 times a year.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the development of an advocacy and communications strategy for both CoST and EAP that positions each organisation as thought leaders and identifies the objectives, key messages, approaches and partners to achieve their ambitions.
• Manage the implementation of the advocacy and communications strategy including the Communications Manager, drawing in other members of the wider EAP and CoST teams to help deliver the activities.
• Contribute to the broader strategic direction of EAP and CoST as part of the senior management team.
• Engage with key international and regional partners including the private sector to help deliver on our advocacy and communications objectives and key messages.
• Oversee the organisation of on-line and in person events to i) promote our tools, standards, policy reports and impact stories to a global audience and ii) promote key message as part of a wider advocacy strategy.
• Represent CoST and EAP at high level international and regional events, bilateral meetings with key partners and in media interviews.
• Lead the creation, writing and publication of communications materials, e.g. media briefs, presentations, case studies, toolkits and blogs.
• Oversee our e-newsletters and social media, building our audience and engagement.
