About the role
The key function of this role is to support all Practical Action entities and subsidiaries in providing effective and efficient legal, governance and operational support.
The role will support the Board and Senior Management by keeping abreast of developments in the legal and regulatory environment and acting as focal point for providing/securing specialist advice to support decision making.
The role also manages and develops several internal systems.
About you
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated and detail-oriented Company Secretary. This role involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of compliance, legal, and company secretarial functions across our global organisation.
Accountabilities
- Oversight and management of UK legal budget.
- Ensure that all legal registrations for all PA offices and subsidiaries are maintained and that relevant documents are available to key staff and governance bodies.
- Ensure all returns to Companies House/Charity Commission are made and that Board/Committees sign off as needed.
- Maintain statutory registers including register of members, register of People with Significant Control, Register of Directors (including residential addresses), register of secretaries and register of charges.
- Provide specialist support to GLT, Chair of Board of Trustees and Chair of Finance, Audit and Risk Committee in relation to governance, legal and regulatory compliance. The role will act as secretary to FAR.
- Maintain lists and records of staff and trustees holding Powers of Attorney and ensure that these are renewed or replaced as needed.
- Provide governance information for the Annual Report, statutory audits and other purposes.
- Work with the Executive Assistant to the CEO to ensure that Admin Control is up to date and incorporates all of the above.
- Stay abreast of legal and regulatory changes and notify relevant staff of any implications.
- Oversight of the Annual Legality Questionnaire.
- Lead on annual review of Practical Action’s insurance requirements to ensure insurance needs are met whist delivering good value for money.
- Provide support on Practical Action projects relating to charity governance e.g., development of Governance manual, Governance self-assessments and GDPR.
- Contribute to the monitoring of GDPR compliance as a member of the GDPR management team
- Support the trustees to administer the Defined Benefit pension scheme as requested.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for charitable companies and experience of developing and implementing policies and systems to ensure compliance.
- Good knowledge of GDPR with ability to develop robust systems to share and protect personal data.
- Organised, thorough and with good attention to detail.
- Highly numerate with a strong capacity to analyse and utilise complex data.
- Strong team working with the confidence to seek advice from expertise elsewhere.
- Strong IT skills including the ability to specify or design new systems.

This role will report into the Senior Digital Manager and will have 2 direct reports. You will oversee and develop the strategic management and growth of Sue Ryder’s busy social media pages and lead paid activity across Meta and other channels, managing ad accounts to support income generating activities, including fundraising and retail, promotion of online bereavement support services, and to support brand awareness activities.

Person Specification:
• Experience of managing and reporting on a large and busy portfolio of social media accounts across multiple platforms
• Experience in planning, sourcing and editing content in a range of formats (image, video, graphics) for social media, with excellent copywriting and proof-reading skills and a keen eye for detail
• Experience of planning, implementing and optimising paid social media campaigns across a range of objectives, durations and budgets
• Knowledge of content scheduling and co-ordination tools such as Sprout Social
• Knowledge of social media monitoring and listening tools

About CARIS Families
CARIS Families is a small, frontline charity that supports families who are homeless and living in overcrowded multi-occupant hostels in the London Boroughs of Hackney and Camden. Life in temporary accommodation hostels entrenches children and their parents in poverty and disadvantage. Families suffer from acute overcrowding, inadequate basic facilities and a permanent sense of unsafety. The nature of hostel life isolates people from their support networks, decimates their physical and mental health and becomes an adverse life experience in itself for families already suffering the trauma of having become homeless.
CARIS Families exists to provide early intervention to mitigate the worst effects of hostel life and homelessness for children and parents in our four target hostels. We do this by providing hands-on play, learning and social activities to help children meet their potential, improve families’ wellbeing and build their support network. We provide a holistic family support service that case-works with each family individually to reduce financial and other pressures on them as they wait for a permanent home. We also use our data and learned experiences about temporary accommodation to join campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation policy and practice, both locally and nationally.
We have just received funding to employ a dedicated Housing Rights Manager for the next two years. This is an exciting addition to our team, as it will be our first staff member dedicated to helping our homeless families with their housing case. The housing system is notoriously opaque: families tell us it can be a hopeless minefield to navigate independently and that they often can’t access meaningful help with it, resulting in years-long hostel stays. Our Housing Rights Manager will step into the gap and work with families on an individual basis to gain the information and support they need to progress their housing case and expedite their move-on into a suitable home.
About the role
Our Housing Rights Manager will be a key member of our Family Support Service. They will manage a weekly drop-in clinic from within the hostels where they will assess new housing cases and develop a support plan with families. They will manage a full housing caseload of housing support work, collaborating with relevant local groups, local authority partners and law centres to progress families’ housing cases. They will learn from the barriers families tell us they face, develop CARIS Families’ housing advice service in response and use these learnings to contribute to campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation practices and policies locally and nationally.
In their first year, the Housing Rights Manager will work in partnership with housing solicitors at Shelter to write a Housing Information and Rights handbook tailored to the processes of our target boroughs. The handbook will aim to demystify the temporary accommodation system in our two boroughs, explain residents’ legal rights and help them understand their options. It will form a key part of the support we can offer and allow us to reach many more families in hostels than our small staff team can individually casework with.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed staff team of just 5, working in a person-centred and community-minded way to make a real difference to families on the frontline of inner-London’s housing crisis.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY
The Humane League is seeking a tenacious, determined, and well-organized individual with deep knowledge of laying hen welfare and the drive to create progressive change for millions of animals. The Temporary Animal Welfare Specialist (known internally as the Temporary Global Technical Lead or Temporary Global Technical Manager) is part of a small, high-impact global team specializing in corporate outreach and policy. The primary focus of this position is to deliver advice on farm animal welfare science to inform animal welfare campaigns and corporate engagement efforts. This requires extensive research and close collaboration with other organizations in the Open Wing Alliance (a global coalition of animal protection groups) to prepare for meetings with food companies and strategize on advocacy tactics from a scientific perspective.

The ideal candidate is passionate about The Humane League’s mission of ending the abuse of animals raised for food and excited about working both independently and as a member of a team in a dynamic environment. While working with autonomy is an important part of this role, strong collaboration and communication skills are also paramount to your success, as is the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Global Animal Welfare.
This is a part-time (32 hours per week), temporary, remote position. The temporary hire will provide coverage while a permanent staff member is on maternity leave, and overlap will be provided for training and onboarding. Employment is expected to be twelve (12) months in duration, beginning on approximately February 3, 2025. The duration of employment may be extended or shortened at The Humane League’s discretion. This position requires both domestic and international travel, equivalent to 3 or more week-long trips per year.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
A Temporary Global Technical Lead is responsible for carrying out the following essential job duties, with close supervision and guidance from the Senior Director of Global Animal Welfare:

Conduct extensive research into the scientific literature and corporate data relating to animal agriculture systems and industries. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the egg industry and laying hen welfare.

Leverage scientific knowledge to inform the work of THL and Open Wing Alliance member groups that are working with major food companies to advance protections for animals within their supply chains. This includes producing animal welfare education materials, preparing and delivering presentations on the science behind proposed welfare policies, and communicating effectively with corporate executives and stakeholders in the animal agriculture industry.

Collaborate cohesively with intra- and inter-departmental team members and Open Wing Alliance member groups to coordinate on strategic initiatives.

Track industry progress, working closely with THL’s other welfare specialists and Global Research & Insights Analyst when required.

The compensation range for the Temporary Global Technical Lead position is £29,963.20 - £36,621.60 GBP, and the compensation range for the Temporary Global Technical Manager position is £34,316.80 - £41,943.20 GBP. About the Role
As the Supporter Engagement Manager, you will oversee the Supporter Engagement team to ensure all donations, enquiries, comments, and complaints are processed compliantly and efficiently across multiple channels, including post, phone, and online. About the position
This is an exciting and demanding role for an outstanding individual as the Freedom Fund seeks to deliver on its ambitious new strategic plan. Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Freedom Fund’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will play a lead role in ensuring the organisation meets its strategic fundraising target by 2030. As a collaborative fund, fundraising and building long-term strategic partnerships is central to the mission of the Freedom Fund. The post holder will represent the Freedom Fund globally and lead the Freedom Fund’s engagement with private and government donors. They will also engage with anti-slavery organisations, corporates, policymakers and other relevant actors.
The Managing Director, External Relations will lead high performing Strategic Partnerships and Communications teams across the London and New York offices to advance the Freedom Fund’s global fundraising strategy, targeting governments, foundations, multilaterals, ultra-high net worth individuals, corporates and academic institutions internationally. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating and stewarding high value relationships across sectors and geographies, and of leading a professional fundraising, grant management, events and communications operation.
The Managing Director, External Relations will be a global influencer and thought leader, championing and shaping agendas surrounding modern day slavery, and in particular the importance of working closely with frontline partners and survivor leaders. The Managing Director will be expected to speak and publish widely, champion and share best practices, and pursue innovative opportunities and connections for the CEO, and other key spokespeople.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and Communications
• Build on the Freedom Fund’s strong fundraising performance to date, take the lead on achieving the organisation’s new strategic fundraising target by 2030 as well as working with the SLT.
• Collaborate across the organisation to ensure development strategy and tactics are aligned with organisational priorities and funding needs.
• Ensure that comprehensive donor mapping and engagement strategies are in place across all sectors (ultra-high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations, governments, etc) and geographies, working together with the Head of Strategic Partnerships.
• Support and 'deploy' the CEO and other colleagues to engage with and ensure coherent messaging with donors on all levels and across all areas of interaction.
• Maintain an overview of the entire funding pipeline for all donors, including cultivation, proposals/bids, fund and grant management and donor servicing/reporting and compliance.
• Review financial and organisational management processes and policies - in close collaboration with the other SLT members - with a view to ensuring their compatibility with donor requirements, proposing reforms as needed.
