In order to do this we have around 2000 St John People, a mixture of employees and volunteers as well as around 800 Children and Young People.
The opportunity
SJAC has ambitious plans in place and a new strategy. We are seeking two trustees to join our board, one of which we require to have a fundraising background and expertise.
General – You will be a passionate individual to join our board, with experience in a relevant field for our mission.
Within the role you will be helping, supporting and guiding us on our journey, willing to be a strong advocate for the charity and having the skills and expertise to steer the charity towards achieving our strategic priorities. You will also of course live our values of Compassion, Quality, Inclusion and Integrity.

Here at Youth4Youth, we have grown a strong, tight-knit community of individuals who are passionate about making a difference and improving the lives of young people across the UK. Our growing team of volunteers all contribute, significantly, to the impact that we have as a charity on our direct beneficiaries, regardless of the department that they work in of the level of time that they are able to commit. About the role
Software engineers are responsible for ensuring best practice across development projects and working collaboratively with the Development Team and wider stakeholders. The role involves communication with other Youth4Youth team members; supporting others; developing solutions; working with a team on work items and producing development documentation.
Responsibilities
- Work with IT Project Managers to ensure work items are forecasted, estimated, and tracked effectively.
- Promote best practices such as adhering to the project's software development lifecycle requirements.
- Completing development work items as part of project delivery. Documenting creation of components.
- Reporting key updates and results to the IT Director.
- Identify opportunities for new solutions and improvements in Youth4Youth’s IT infrastructure and operations.
- Ensure software development best practices are upheld, documentation such as data diagrams are created, and relevant testing is completed.

Finance Committee
The finance committee oversees the finances of the registered charity (WCPT), the company WCPT Trading Ltd, and in time the CIO. The Finance Committee, provides reports, advice, and makes recommendations to the Board in accordance with the Committee’s functions. Commitment
The commitment required for these roles includes attendance at quarterly finance committee meetings, attendance at annual meetings with auditors, reading papers in advance of meetings, as well as availability from time to time to support the chair and senior management team through correspondence or ad-hoc meetings.

Springboard Youth Academy supports refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have recently arrived in the UK to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond. Refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have made the difficult journey to the UK – especially those who come alone – are saddled with many challenges common to starting a life somewhere new. Though they are required to enroll in school, more often than not, they aren’t provided with the language and psychological support necessary to succeed in their new circumstances. They are simply not set up to thrive. Coupled with budget cuts to tailored learning provision in schools, these young people often miss their chance to progress at a natural pace and to reach their fullest potential.
As educators, service providers and youth workers with years of experience working to offset the challenges these young people face, we launched a programme that helps develop young people’s English language skills whilst addressing their psychological and social needs, preparing them for mainstream education and helping them rebuild their lives in London.
We do this by providing interactive and engaging programming that combines English learning, life skills and practical and emotional strategies for young people on their journey to independence and adulthood.
About the Opportunity

Role Summary
The Treasurer will be required to:

About WORTH
WORTH is a charity providing long term aftercare to women affected by Domestic Abuse. We offer clients 1-1 support and a range of wellbeing groups including art, writing, music and self-defence to help rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.
We provide a safe space for clients to share experiences, give and receive practical and emotional support, learn new skills, reduce isolation, build friendships, and give women their voice back. It is a space where women can focus on their future and we can support our clients in their healing, post abuse.
To be able to provide this support we rely on a great team of volunteers with a wide skill set and a whole lot of passion to enable our services to work effectively.
Our Board of Trustees play a vital role in making sure that WORTH achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management, administration and governance of the charity. They also ensure that WORTH has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the CEO to enable WORTH to grow and thrive and support more women in need.
Trustee Duties:
- Support and provide advice on WORTH's purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee WORTH's financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Review and approve WORTH's financial statements.
- Provide support and challenge to WORTH's CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Keep abreast of changes in WORTH's operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of WORTH's own governance.
- Attend regular Trustee Board meetings and be adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WORTH's interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.

As a small charity, there will be times when trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Trustee Board meetings. What we are looking for

Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a two year term of office, with eligibility to renew and serve for two further terms to a maximum of six years.
- This is a voluntary unpaid position.
Time commitment
- Attending a minimum of six trustee board meetings annually, meetings are held remotely via Zoom once every two to three months.
- Attendance at ad hoc trustee meetings in addition to the minimum six annual meetings.

Treasurer (Trustee) role description
As well as fulfilling the general duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of WSUP’s financial affairs, ensuring appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place. The Treasurer reports to the Board at regular intervals on the financial health of the organisation.
Key responsibilities

Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, monthly and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.

Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves and cost management.

Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.

Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with Chief Executive.

Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process

Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chief Executive to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees.

Defining Key Performance indicators (KPI’s) and tracking against forecast. Also to include monitoring fundraising targets.

The role
The role of the Independent member is to provide the Safety Committee and the Movement with knowledge and experience for making key decisions. The role is pro bono, but reasonable expense will be paid in accordance with The Scout Association (TSA)’s Expenses Policy.
The Safety Committee reports directly to the Board of Trustees which has overall legal responsibility for TSA. The committee is Chaired by an external appointee who is a Trustee of the board. The safety committee comprises independent members with Health & Safety expertise across a range of sectors and members from the movement. The purpose of the committee is to hold to account those with responsibility for delivery of Health & Safety across Scouting.
Main responsibilities
The remit of the Committee is to support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its responsibilities in relation to Safety by:
- providing vision and direction for consideration and endorsement by the Board (as required), by identifying and contributing to the development of safety policies, procedures and guidance;
- ensuring that youth members, adult volunteers, parents and staff are engaged in contributing to the development of safety policies;
- developing and overseeing a performance framework to ensure that safety policies, procedures and practice are monitored to provide assurance to the Board (relating to members, staff and service users) and use this management information to inform and drive improvements; monitoring the local and national implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure practice is effective and consistently applied;
- ensuring that appropriate connections are made with other areas of the Association’s work that may have an impact on safety (for example Adult Training by using incident data to highlight areas of success or concern);
- ensuring that members receive appropriate support and communication to aid understanding of their responsibilities to enable Safe Scouting;
- leading the process for Fatal Accident and/or Near Miss inquiries from commissioning through to completion;
- reviewing and overseeing actions from inquiry reports (this should be in conjunction with the respective staff functions, particularly where there is specific policy, procedure and/or practice changes that need to be recommended for consideration by the Strategy and Delivery Committee and/or Board (as required);
- identifying possible areas of development for the Association’s safety activities, taking into account relevant national agendas and learning from reviews whether this be external or internal to the Association.
The person
Past or present membership of The Scout Association would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement.

Time Commitment
For this role, the appointed candidate should expect to spend the equivalent of a day per quarter on The Scout Association’s work after the induction phase. This is based on preparation for and attendance at the scheduled Safety Committee meetings (four in each year, with the intention that two are held online and two face to face).
Appointment Term
These appointments would normally be for a three-year term (subject to appraisal), extendable by mutual consent by no more than one further three-year term.

We are a youth organisation who takes safeguarding seriously. The post holder agrees to comply at all times with the safeguarding rules as set out on TSA’s yellow card, which can be found here, This is shared with young people and carers, as well as employees, so everyone knows our rules of engagement.
In order to comply, stringent vetting procedures take place including checking against an internal database to assess suitability and also Basic/Enhanced DBS checks as required.

His Majesty The King is the Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society, and Her Majesty The Queen is the Vice-Patron.
The King succeeded The late Queen Elizabeth II, who had been Patron since 1952 when she was also Head of the Commonwealth. Queen Camilla had previously been our inaugural Vice-Patron since 2018.
The Honorary Vice-President is the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
The Royal Commonwealth Society is governed by an experienced Council
comprising the Executive Chair and Trustees.
The offices are in Guildhall, London, with team members based in Canada, Malta, Nigeria, the Solomon Islands, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
In addition to branches, the Royal Commonwealth Society has an active network of over 450 Associate Fellows. Formerly Queen’s Young Leaders and other outstanding young people from all 56 Commonwealth countries, the Associate Fellows are reappointed annually based on their contributions to their respective Working Groups.

The Role:
To get the most out of being on the RCS’s Council, we are looking for those who have a passion for our aims and can commit to the time and effort required. Our trustees need strategic vision, independent judgement, and an ability to work effectively and actively as part of a small but dedicated charitable organisation. We are seeking an experienced Chair who can lead the Council in a collegiate and effective manner to deliver the most impact for the citizens of the Commonwealth.
To fulfil the duties of this role, we are looking for someone who has considerable board experience and a commitment to charitable endeavours. A background in the Commonwealth is not required. We are especially keen to hear from people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Oversee the Council and the Society’s strategy and direction
- Management of finances of the Society
- Lead fundraising efforts
- Responsible for the governance of the Society
- Maintain relationships with external stakeholders
Person Specification:
- Chair experience would be highly desirable
- Board experience would be required
- Trustee experience of charitable organisations would be desirable
- High-level professional experience
- Interest in the voluntary sector and its contribution to society
- Commitment to good governance
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collegiate approach
- An interest in global affairs and an international outlook
- Experience of working with stakeholders and doing so with professionalism and discretion
- Confidence in being the high profile representative of a significant institution
