The Role:

The 999 Club is a highly inclusive, community focussed charity supporting people in south-east London who are experiencing homelessness or mental health problems. Our goal is to provide a friendly open door for anyone that is sleeping on the streets or at risk of sleeping on the streets, 365 days a year, so that we can help people to help themselves escape from homelessness.

With a 30-year heritage, we play a vital role in our community and with community partners. In the average year, more than 1,600 different people will use our services. We support circa 300 people a year to find a new home or stay in their current home, and 300 people to start a job, training or volunteer. Role Summary

Responsibilities

Strategic development and implementation

• Develop and oversee an effective PR communications strategy, including business/trade press and public affairs (EU and UN advocacy), based on ProVeg’s strategic principles, impact areas and global interventions.

• Be accountable for the development, delivery, and evaluation of the organisation’s PR activities.

• Create relations with key media outlets to increase visibility and dissemination opportunities

• Develop media relations and build relationships with PR contacts to continuously grow our impact.

• Secure media opportunities for the Senior Leadership and Executive Team and the Global CEO.

• Oversee and ensure the management of positive relationships with the media and relevant change agents, and external colleagues.

• Develop and update, as needed, clear guidance (e.g., core messaging and brand narrative) for the communications team to ensure public communications are aligned with ProVeg’s organisational strategy and communications approach.

• Increase ProVeg International’s profile, particularly in broadcast media, enhance the organisation’s credibility and inspire supporters and other stakeholders through the use of engaging communications.

• Safeguard the organisation’s brand by overseeing and managing the development of crisis communications plans and advising on emerging issues and PR risks and opportunities. 

• Liaise with the Global CEO and the Senior Leadership Team on strategic communication alignment and/or adjustments, and coordinate and ensure synergies in terms of quality control, key messages, templates, strategies, etc. 

Management and leadership

• Model excellence in (remote) team management by motivating, coaching, giving, and receiving feedback, supporting and developing teams and skills, and driving innovation and creativity.

• Advise and work with colleagues across the organisation, to ensure we maximise opportunities to raise awareness, influence, and deepen engagement with our audiences in order to support a variety of objectives.

Budget and resource management and evaluation

• Manage a dedicated budget for effective reporting and forecasting.

• Produce timely and regular management information for leadership that effectively explains performance set against OKRs, KPIs and the broader strategic plan. 

Qualifications

Required:

• An excellent understanding of the plant-based and alternative protein sector and knowledge of food systems change.

• A successful track record (5+ years) in journalism (print or broadcast), marketing, or public affairs, developing and delivering strategic objectives across a range of communications channels.

• Strong track record in PR (including broadcast), marketing and/or organisational branding.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, English to native level (or C1).

• Excellent networking skills and experience in building productive relationships with key media stakeholders and influencers.

• Strong project management skills.

• Ability to juggle a varied workload, delegate effectively and contribute as a team player.

• Strong team management skills and a commitment to motivating and empowering a team remotely in order to achieve their goals.

• High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills – externally and internally; ability to balance diverse interests of different teams.

This is a key role in the Operations department. You’ll be providing financial, administrative and coordination support to the Nutrition Team so we can play a role in ending hunger. What you’ll be doing

You will start with offering IT support to all our People, and providing organisational support to our IT team. Your domain will span our London HQ and the distributed network of staff, celebrants, consultants, and volunteers who keep our organisation running.

You will meet daily with the Director of IT to triage and keep track of the support needs, including larger projects. You will take ownership of our issue tracking systems (we use Jira and Notion, unless you can convince us otherwise) and keep them organised and current.

You will be the first point of contact for support issues. You will handle the first level of support yourself for standard issues: resetting passwords, and similar. After you’ve settled in, we will skill you up on our CRM tools, website, and other areas - so that you can support the highest priority areas. We will work with you based on your strengths, interests, and career development needs.

You will help manage inventory, and help with budgeting. You will also help with writing documentation. Later on, you will determine training needs across the organisation and assist in providing training sessions.

You will be in our London office at least 2 days a week, looking after the office IT environment by keeping it organised, tidy, and documented. You will be handling some of the physical infrastructure for the office network too. You don’t need high-level networking skills, but you need to understand the concepts of routers/switches/wireless access points - and be able to do basic troubleshooting on standard network issues. If you don’t have a Network+ qualification or similar (not a requirement), we’ll get you working towards one right away.

This is a great job for new graduates, or anyone wanting to get into the nuts and bolts of charity IT. We will work to your strengths and skill you up in areas you are interested in.

About the Housing and Homelessness Programme
Oak Foundation’s Housing and Homelessness Programme is a grant-making programme that supports organisations to end homelessness and create housing opportunities. The programme funds projects across the UK and US. In additional to national projects, it also funds within the geographic locations prioritised in its current strategy. These locations are London, Bristol, the West Midlands, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. 

With an annual budget of over USD 30 million, the programme makes 37 new multi-year grants annually; in addition, the programme maintains strong connections with existing grantee partners, sharing learning and opportunities. The programme has three strategic priorities: renter rights, supply and access to genuinely affordable and decent homes, and reduction and prevention of homelessness. The programme has a deep commitment to supporting social justice, racial equity, and the voices of people with lived experience. We fund organisations that: demonstrate a strong understanding of the experiences of people facing homelessness; and have evidence that their work is rooted in solutions that people closest to the problem have identified.   

We know that homelessness and housing problems disproportionately and unfairly affect sections of our community, and so we seek to support projects that address this. This includes: women; people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities; people with disabilities; and LGBTQI communities.

About the role
The Housing and Homelessness Programme is currently made up of a programme director, five programme officers, and one programme associate, all of whom are based in our London office. We are looking for a highly organised individual, with the ability to juggle a variety of tasks at the same time. They will be able to undertake research on housing and homelessness issues to inform our grant-making choices, conduct analyses of our existing portfolio, and oversee some of our monitoring and evaluation processes, while also providing administrative support to the programme director, such as organising meetings and maintaining our grant-making database.  They will need to be a self-starter with the confidence to work both independently and part of a team. The position also provides administrative support to the Oak London office and serves as back-up to the office manager.

Main responsibilities

•  Managing the grant-making project management system and monitoring the grant-making budget.
• Taking a substantial role in implementing our monitoring, learning, and evaluation strategy, overseeing the regular analysis of our grant-making portfolio, and reviewing outcomes/learning and regularly presenting these to the whole team.
• Conducting research on housing issues as well as potential new partners, as directed by the programme director. This will include keeping abreast of relevant policy issues, and reading and summarising external reports for the benefit of the programme team and our grant-making portfolio.
• Contributing to the design, implementation, and regular review of the programme strategy.
•  Substantially contributing to the programme’s communications, including ensuring a communications plan is developed and implemented annually, drafting and formatting content for newsletters, internal reports, presentations, and social media.
• Coordinating and connecting regularly with grantee partners to gather evidence, publications, and multi-media for communications, monitoring, learning, and evaluation purposes.
• Performing a liaison function between Oak’s IT team, and managing the programme’s IT infrastructure (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, grant-making database, and Outlook).
• Under supervision, managing a small portfolio of grants, as required, and performing regular contact with grantee partners.
• Supporting programme officers by developing grants and writing progress reports for existing grant partners.
• Contributing to Oak-wide working groups.
• Supporting the programme with internal and external meetings and partner expert convenings.
• Providing a range of administrative support for the programme director, including the management of their diary, and the organisation of events, roundtables, and occasional support with travel organisation.
• Performing all other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time, including administrative support as directed by the programme director. This includes:
  • processing invoices and managing publication subscriptions
  • setting up the office for newcomers in the HHP team: arranging desks, IT devices, stationery etc; and
  • performing reception duties, including meeting and greeting visitors for the HHP programme;
• Providing administrative support to the London office, as required, including for meetings or special events or as back-up to other offices and/or Trustees.

Position requirements

• University degree preferred but not essential
• 3-5 years’ demonstrable experience of working for a not-for-profit organisation or development organisation, ideally in a housing and homelessness policy and research.
• Highly organised and able to juggle a wide range of responsibilities that may demand ongoing reprioritisation.
• Experience of using social media for research and communications.
• Demonstrable experience and confidence in all Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. Additional database experience (preferably Salesforce) is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to write for a range of different audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated openness and capacity to learn quickly.
• Confidence and presence to conduct meetings with high profile external audiences.

Early Years Community Worker

We are looking for an Early Years Community Worker to join our caring, creative and resourceful Hackney Playbus early years team, with additional responsibility for coordinating the staff team schedule and ensuring that appropriate resources are in place to deliver our programme. 

Together we run stay and play sessions from a bright and beautiful double-decker bus that has been converted into a mobile early years community play space. Our sessions take place both inside and outside the Playbus in different locations across Hackney, providing a rich play and learning environment for children aged 0-4yrs old and a welcoming space for their parents and carers. We listen to the needs of parents and carers and help families to access support services where needed. 

As well as our Playbus sessions, we bring our informal, welcoming approach to baby groups that we run in community settings.

Our Team and Our Approach

Main duties and responsibilities:

Staff scheduling

• Coordinating the staff team schedule to ensure all sessions are appropriately staffed, taking into account booked annual leave

• Covering sessions for other members of the team to enable all team members time to take part in outreach activities, training, planning, project development, admin and meetings

Play Provision

• To assist in the planning and delivery of play opportunities in a safe and stimulating environment, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum

• To acquire resources as necessary within the budget available to maintain an enabling environment for children’s learning and development, ensuring that all equipment is safe, appropriate, well maintained and stored

• Promote the use of low cost, free or recycled materials to ensure that activities demonstrated can be replicated in the home environment and on a low budget

• To create stimulating play spaces to support children’s learning and development, including lifting play equipment on and off the Playbus as required, and/or setting up equipment in community hall settings

• To supervise and support children in their play during sessions both on and off the Playbus, or in group settings at community venues 

• To assist with the cleaning and tidying of the Playbus, venues, and of Hackney Playbus resources

Working with Parents and Carers

• To provide a warm, welcoming and nurturing space for parents and carers, whether on the Playbus, in group venues, or in other community settings

• To model ways of playing and interacting with children, including promoting play-at-home ideas

• To encourage parents and carers to share their experiences with each other and to value their own knowledge and experience as a parent or carer

Title: Interim General Manager

Our General Manager is going on an extended leave, so we are looking for someone who can lead the team, continue our fundraising efforts and generally hold the fort for six months. 

Some of the key milestones of the period the new General Manager will be responsible for include: supporting the team in hosting a fundraising event, meeting key grant writing deadlines, supporting Finance Lead in producing the end of year accounts and all on-going financial reporting, renewing corporate sponsorship agreements with current partners.

The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre is an award-winning charity launched by a team of volunteers in 2017. In December 2021 we opened our first physical space in London’s bankside.
