Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) are a national Christian charity working in partnership with local churches to bring struggling children hope and a future. Building on the huge success of TLG Early Intervention Coaching, TLG Therapeutic Support will be a new way for TLG, with partner churches, to provide support in school for the increasing number of pupils struggling to cope due to their emotional, relational, and mental health experiences. This programme addresses the underlying issues children are facing, whilst also providing the option of direct support to their parents/carers and the school staff team.

In this role we are looking for individuals that thrive working with children and young people in a school context and are passionate about supporting pupils and their families struggling with emotional, relational, and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will hold an accredited coaching qualification and have an aptitude for creativity whether this is music and drama, sport and outdoor recreation or other fields of kinaesthetic development. The TLG Therapeutic Coach will be present each week in the school, providing specialist trauma aware care for these children, whilst supporting staff and parents/carers too, so we're looking for an individual who can build and foster strong relationships.

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate communications activities across the Society’s policy and external affairs activities, ensuring that our work is communicated strategically and visible to appropriate audiences.

Key responsibilities:

Understanding opportunities and the changing external environment  

• Develop our understanding of the preferences and needs of our key internal and external audiences to better align our policy and external affairs communications to those preferences and needs. 
• Monitor and respond to emerging trends to ensure our communications channels and content for policy and external affairs remain timely and relevant.
• Build a network of key contacts across critical and adjacent organisations to maximise potential routes into influencing decision-making and make the best use of resources through collaborative working. 

Development of strategies and plans

• Lead on strategic communication of the Society’s campaign priorities
• Contribute to the development of the Society’s communications strategy across media, social media and communications planning.
• Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to maximise the communications value of the Society’s key policy and external affairs outputs and activities.
• Contribute to costed plans for communications campaigns that meet key strategic goals and include monitoring for impact.

Media relations

• Lead on the Society’s media relations work – proactively identify and exploit appropriate media opportunities to promote campaign priorities, drafting media statements and managing launches and announcements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with journalists across our key topic areas and respond to press queries. 
• Expertly advise, assist and brief the Society’s key spokespeople in respect of media relations issues and opportunities. 
• Manage, and develop the Society’s statistical ambassador scheme, supporting individuals and ensuring we have a pipeline of spokespeople that reflects the diversity of the data professions.

Content creation and editorial

• Develop communications content including blogs, press statements, posts and thought pieces to communicate our campaigns and policy work. 
• Contribute to the operation of the Society’s social media accounts, working with wider staff to ensure we are reflecting the breadth of the Society’s activities across the various platforms.
• Produce write-ups of events and roundtables.

External affairs

• Work with the CEO and Head of Policy and Advocacy to identify and develop relationships with external stakeholders, both UK-based and international and across government, civil society, academia and business, acting as a convenor, trusted advisor and critical friend. 
• Lead on the Society’s statistical excellence awards programme, including developing and maintaining relationships with awards sponsors to ensure the awards are both impactful and financially sustainable.
• Lead on the planning and delivery of policy focused events 
• Support the publication, launch and dissemination of relevant outputs across the policy team, and work with colleagues to ensure relevant and timely and communication of policy positions to support policy and advocacy objectives. 
• Maintain a database of relevant stakeholders.

Management

• Monitor and report on progress and performance against targets. 
• Project manage campaigns, external affairs and communications activities, ensuring that work is appropriate, of high quality, and sufficient volume to maintain presence and reputation. 
• Manage the budget for the communications function.

Interfaces with other teams and groups 

• Contribute to a cross-RSS communications group to share comms plans and outputs and identify opportunities for synergy and collaboration. 
• Provide support to key Society groups, for example the Campaigns Advisory Group. 
• Work with staff responsible for business development to pursue sponsorship opportunities where appropriate. 
• Engage with teams across the organisation to identify comms opportunities to advance our campaign priorities.

Person Specification

• Significant relevant experience in media relations and external affairs

Working for the RSS

Pension and benefits

Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available. 

Location

The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with a minimum two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meeting is required, including all-staff / team meetings and governance / committee meetings that take place in person. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.

Working hours

35 per week full-time. Applications for job shares, part-time and flexible working will also be considered. The post-holder will be the point of contact for any out-of-office hours press queries. 

Holidays

25 days per annum, plus bank holidays and an additional shut down between Christmas and New Year.

We are delighted to be working with the charity to recruit a permanent Financial Controller to join its established team based in conveniently located offices in Central London. 

The role:

Reporting directly to the COO, the Financial Controller will ensure the provision of consistent, robust financial advice to the charity as a whole.  This person will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and financial operations, ensuring these are compliant with statutory requirements and appropriate and effective financial controls are in place. They will also maintain a financial planning framework that will facilitate the delivery of the charity's financial strategy. This will involve managing one direct report, overseeing all financial reporting and tax compliance, preparing the charity’s management accounts and the end of year accounts for approval and sign off by the Trustees. In addition, the role will be responsible for managing an annual financial audit process preparing the annual budgets in advance for SLT sign off and providing sound financial advice across all of these areas.

This person will also manage all external relationships with banks, financial institutions, property Investors and auditors wherever Finance is the main issue being dealt with. This person will also oversee all Grants related financial transactions in close collaboration with the Grants department.

The person:

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and will be able to provide excellent financial management and reporting for the Charity. They will be confident working with different internal stakeholders and external professional advisors and will be capable of considering their different requirements and priorities in a knowledgeable way. This person will have excellent attention to detail and will be highly organised and a strong communicator across a wide range of audiences. Educated to Degree level or the equivalent (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA), this person will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and will be up to date on all MS Office packages and financial software including SAGE being essential.

Candidates with prior experience of working with endowed Trusts, Foundations or Charities or who have worked in Charities that have income derived from a permanent endowment (either partially or totally), will be of particular interest, so please draw attention to this when applying.

This person will have demonstrated substantial financial management experience at a senior level in the Charity or Not-for-Profit sectors, with extensive knowledge of UK Charity Accounting Standards (SORP, Charity Commission compliance and VAT). Using your legal expertise, you will play a key role in tackling housing in justice and unfair housing practices. You will be working under our Legal Aid contract, delivering legal advice and representing tenants at court where needed. You will also work with the team in the Hub to help make sure people in the community are aware of their housing rights and how to enforce them, as well as providing support to Trainee Solicitors and Legal Advisers, ensuring good practice and compliance.

About You

Qualified as a Solicitor with at least three years post qualifying experience, you will have a strong knowledge of housing law and substantial experience of managing a wide range of housing cases. You have strong skills in court advocacy, litigation, report writing, file reviews and are able to meet financial targets. You will be able to meet the 2018 SQM supervisor standard in housing and be able to demonstrate experience of working under a legal aid contract.

Our Legal Service provides specialist legal knowledge across Shelter through four teams covering Community Legal advice, Strategic Litigation, the National Legal Team and Legal Support Team. About this key role

As our Senior Caseworker, you will work with participants to agree and regularly review an action plan and help them to carry out actions on their plan via delivering one-to-one and group motivational advice and guidance.  We will count on you to provide effective leadership, support and guidance to a team of Peer Advisors in the delivery of flexible services to individuals with complex needs to improve their employability skills and help them move into sustainable employment.

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.

In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We’ll achieve this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales.

The Area Leaders Programme (ALP) is central to this mission. The ALP will transform how areas identify and support young people and places most vulnerable to violence, collaborate effectively, and deliver impactful interventions to better protect children from being drawn into violence. We are seeking an exceptional senior manager to help drive the next phase of the ALP, scaling from a successful pilot in four Local Authorities to broader implementation across England and Wales. 

Key Responsibilities 

The Senior Area Leaders Programmes Manager will be an essential part of the YEF Change team and will support the expansion and delivery of the Area Leaders Programme, ensuring its effectiveness in increasing evidence-based decision-making, commissioning, and multi-agency collaboration. You will provide direct operational oversight and stakeholder engagement to support local areas in reducing youth involvement in violence.  Approximately 0.4fte of the role will be presenting YEF Toolkit evidence in both the ALP and across wider violence prevention networks supported by the YEF.

This will include: 

Programme Management and Delivery 

• Support the management of the expansion of ALP from four pilot areas to 10 new local authority areas from spring 2025. 
• Support the development and refinement of frameworks, tools, and resources to support effective identification of the people and places most vulnerable to violence, evidence-based commissioning, effective case management, and multi-agency collaboration. 
• Commission and manage contractual arrangements with external consultants secured to support ALP development and delivery. 
• Manage robust monitoring and evaluation processes to assess the impact and inform continuous improvement of the programme. 
• Manage programme resources effectively, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards. 

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, safeguarding partnerships, community safety partnerships, and other stakeholders. 
• Represent YEF in discussions with partners and policymakers. 
• Help facilitate collaboration across diverse stakeholders to align priorities, overcome barriers, and promote evidence-based approaches. 

Capacity Building and Support 

• Provide strategic and operational support to multi-agency teams, empowering them to embed effective violence prevention practices. 
• Lead capacity-building activities, including workshops, coaching, training, and peer learning opportunities for local partnerships. 

Presenting Toolkit evidence.

• You will present Toolkit evidence in talks and workshops and speak clearly and persuasively about Toolkit evidence, so that insights from our research lead to positive change. You’ll work with key stakeholders to identify areas of policy and practice that should be informed by Toolkit evidence.

About you

• You are fascinated about change and are experienced in making it happen. You understand why people find change difficult. You come alive talking about how people make decisions and why they do the things they do.

About the role

The Refugee Council’s services strategy is aimed at delivering high impact, sustainable services that are centred on the needs of people seeking asylum and refugees in the UK, and improving the system of support that they rely on for their safety and future lives in local communities. We seek to significantly improve early access to information, advice and support for people seeking asylum and refugees in crisis and those seeking to integrate into the UK.

In December 2023, with consultancy support, we designed an exciting youth service strategy with a delivery model centred around children’s needs and with the vision for change on how separated children and young people are treated in their asylum journey by creating holistic casework, high quality joined up relationships across the organisation, collaboration with local partners and supporters through learning and sharing best practice to transform their experience and bring systemic change.

The Age Dispute work sits within the Youth Casework team, and we seek to deepen the impact by supporting more children and young people now dispersed across England and who are wrongly age assessed of assumed as over 18 by the Home Office and/or by the local authorities. The age disputes casework adviser will bring expertise to provide specialist casework to challenge incorrect age assessments, use experience to deal and prioritise high risk cases, work with various stakeholders including legal representatives, statutory agencies, and collaborate with others in sector to develop, learn and share best practice resources in casework provision. The postholder will maintain an understanding of the changing practice in relation to age assessments in particular and the wider policy landscape, work with colleagues in the Youth Services and in consultation with the Youth Services Manager, liaise with other relevant Refugee Council teams, including advocacy, practice development, youth involvement, In-Form to use casework evidence to address inequities in policy and practice.

Based within the Youth Services of the Refugee Council, the Age Disputes Casework Adviser will be responsible for:

• Working with children and young people to understand their experiences and needs.
• Working closely with other Age Disputes Casework Advisers and the Youth Services Manager to identify and review high risk and complex cases that need prioritising and create effective internal case triage and allocation systems.
• Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the needs of young people with disputed age are recognised and met.
• Identifying age assessment policy and practice issues impacting on the lives of separated children for possible action via strategic litigation with legal representatives and advocacy colleagues.
• Maintaining expert casework knowledge and understanding of the environment and barriers that separated children seeking asylum face in with regards to the assessment of their age, and issues related to access to high quality information, advice and legal representation on immigration, asylum and welfare, and always learning and sharing the knowledge with others.
