The role
Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Head of People
Salary: £25,000 per annum, pro rata
Contract: Permanent, part time. 24-32 hours per week flexible across 7 days, onsite at Storyhouse
At Storyhouse, we are lucky enough to have over 180 volunteers. They are integral to our day-to-day operation and are the face of our visitor experience and support our teams across the organisation.
The purpose of this role is to provide coordination of all volunteer activity across the organisation and to support the Head of People with the ongoing management and future development of the volunteer programme.
You will form part of the People Team, which also focuses on Human Resources and Payroll.
You will be proactive in ensuring we have a diverse volunteer programme that is embedded across Storyhouse and is provided as a vital service to our communities.
Responsibilities
Administration
- Coordinate our 180+ volunteers, including maintenance of our systems, training records, and rota management
- Work with all departments to ensure volunteers are integrated and well managed when on shift in their roles
- Oversee and enact all volunteer policies and procedures, playing an active part of annual reviews and ongoing development of these key documents
- Manage the tone and style of communication with all volunteers, managing expectations and keeping them up to date on all Storyhouse news and opportunities
- Keep up to date with best practice and legislation in the volunteer sector
- Conduct regular volunteer surveys and establish routes for volunteers to provide feedback
- Other administrative tasks to support the People Team as required; as a small team, we all support each other.
Recruitment
- Proactively and innovatively manage all volunteer recruitment, creating a diverse pool of volunteers to support our work across the organisation
- Ensure relevant DBS checks are conducted and personal references are obtained, highlighting any concerns
- Support with the development and delivery of volunteer inductions
- Support the Head of People with the creation of volunteer opportunities that both support our teams and provide a first-class experience for the volunteer
- Process leavers relevant systems, monitoring the completion of exit interviews
- Audit & monitor uniform levels, issuing to volunteers, highlighting when stock levels are low
Training
- Maintain our online training records, ensuring volunteers have completed required training
- Assist with the organisation of in-house training by booking spaces, compiling presentations and relevant paperwork, or coordinate the booking of external training providers coming on-site as required
Programme Development
- Attend networking events, open days and recruitment fairs, representing Storyhouse and raising the profile of our work with volunteers
- Work with the Head of People to produce reports on the volunteer programme to the Senior Leadership Team, trustees and other stakeholders as required
- Develop relationships with our partnership organisations and wider networks to maintain and develop existing and new volunteer opportunities
- Work with Young Storyhouse to offer Young Leader graduates volunteer opportunities
- Work on volunteer incentives, recognition and reward schemes across the year
General
- Act in accordance with Storyhouse’s policies and procedures, and undertake any training as required by Storyhouse
- Act as a role model for other staff and contribute to the life of the organisation as a whole
- Carry out any other duties as may be required as part of the Volunteer Coordinator’s role
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a similar role working with volunteers, ideally in a visitor-facing environment
- Experience developing learning pathways for volunteers
- Experience delivering engaging training sessions to a wide range of audiences
- Experience creating positive team environments
- Experience networking and developing mutually beneficial working relationships
- Personal volunteering experience (desirable)
- High level of understanding of volunteer legislation in the UK (relevant qualification desirable)
- Excellent time management, administration, and planning skills
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently
- Ability to work to a high standard with personal and professional integrity, with a fair and unbiased approach
- Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, volunteers, service users, and third parties
- Strong level of IT skills, including Microsoft Office – particularly Excel
- Highly organised and methodical, with an excellent eye for detail
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to act as an advocate for the organisation and articulate our core values

We are looking for an experienced leader to run our Crosslight Branch, staff and volunteers in West Kent (with locations in across Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells), and to provide debt advice, case management, and money education to Crosslight’s service users.
Our ideal candidate has prior debt advice experience combined with experience of leading and supervising staff and volunteers. We understand that these are unique skills and therefore if you have leadership experience gained in other social welfare settings, there may be an opportunity to train as a debt advisor if you can demonstrate that you possess the skills, maturity and determination to become proficient in this element.

The successful candidate must have or be:
•CIPD membership at Chartered or Fellow level or equivalent experience
•Sound understanding of UK employment law is essential
•Sound understanding and proven experience of HR processes, including but not limited to, change management, organisational development, ER case work, resourcing, compensation and benefits, policy development
•Proven experience of HR business partnering and substantial skills and experience of HR management at a senior level within in a large organisation
•A good understanding, commitment and sympathy with Islamic Relief’s Values, principles and mission
•Proven ability and experience in people and activity management as well as delegating roles and authority in a way in which enables teams to reach their targets/objectives
•Proven experience of developing and implementing strategies and work plans which help to deliver the wider organisational objectives
•Ability to guide staff development towards achieving key performance indicators
•Demonstrable experience in consultative team approaches to decision-making and innovation which motivates and drives teams forward
•Proven ability and experience in analysing data which enables sound conclusions and recommendations to be drawn to work in a way which always considers long-term goals whilst maintaining an overview of its immediate situation
•Track record of working in partnership with senior leadership teams, based on a coaching approach
• Up-to-date knowledge of current employment legislation, awareness of forthcoming employment legislation
•High level of competence in all aspects of managing employee relations
•Sound financial and time management which enables strategic goals to be achieved within budgetary constraints
•Ability and motivation to travel within UK and internationally if required

We are seeking a senior leader with experience with 5-6 figure fundraising but that can be within any of trusts & foundations, corporate and/or major donors.
Head of Development
Salary £55,000 - £60,000 + Benefits

This role comes at an exciting time with the opportunity to lead the growth of MQ’s Development Team as we expand our capacity across all these areas of income generation. MQ currently has at least one role under each area and there is desire, supported by the board of trustees, for further recruitment to strengthen each as needed.
We are happy to consider people who want to work full-time (35 hours), or four days per week (28 hours).
Here's a summary of your key responsibilities:
- Provide inspirational leadership to the MQ Development Team, managing the current team of five to deliver our £3m 2025 budget
- Develop, oversee and actively lead the implementation of a fundraising strategy which exploits a wide range of fundraising opportunities, maintains diverse and sustainable income streams, and builds the organisation’s unrestricted income capacity to meet its aims and objectives.
- Lead by example, personally building and managing a pool of 6 figure prospects to deliver against targets within your area of speciality (major donor, trusts and/or corporates), with a focus on new business across the team
- Potential to help MQ expand its high value fundraising on an international scale
- Collaborate across MQ’s teams, including Research, Marketing and Finance, to develop MQ’s list of fundraising products and proposals
- Refine and deliver MQ’s high value tracking and reporting on financial and activity KPIs, working closely with the Senior Data and Compliance Manager and using our CRM, Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Build and monitor annual Development Team income and expenditure budgets and work with MQ’s Executive to provide regular updates against progress and reforecasting as needed
- Drive innovation in fundraising activity in order that MQ can stand out – improving current approaches but also developing new behaviours, projects and activities to win new funding through excellent stewardship and cultivation
- Capitalise on the expertise and networks of MQ’s senior volunteers, including working closely with MQ trustees and other Development Team colleagues to maximise existing opportunities for introductions, including the Lord Mayor’s Appeal
- Develop MQ’s ability to carry out targeted and systematic research to establish new high value prospects utilising existing networks, the MQ database, search engines and referrals
About you:
This role is for you, if you have fundraising experience with grants and foundations as well as corporate fundraising and/or new business acquisition experience. This means you will have experience in stewarding and securing new gifts from foundations as well as researching new opportunities to apply for funds.
You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.
You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.
We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-focused.
Experience of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge/NXT is desirable but not essential.

The role:
- Work in partnership with the business to deliver the strategy and creatively solve problems;

Essential criteria:
- Experience of reporting financial information, including explaining finance concepts to non-financial people;
- Previous or current experience working in the property or housing sector.

- Good systems experience, both of finance systems and operational systems, and be quick to pick up new ones;
