The Management Accountant will be a key part of the operations, reporting to the Director of Finance to provide financial management information across the charity. This is a full-time position, across 33.5 hour week (mainly based in their London office, with some WFH).
 
This is a hands-on finance position where you will be responsible for a small finance team, ensuring all financial processes and procedures are run efficiently and effectively to trial balance, to ensure the timely production of management reports for Trustee Boards. This will include timely delivery of month end reconciliations, management of expenses and payments to suppliers and debtor control, responsibility for all payrolls and taking charge of the year-end financial reporting cycle for all organisations. 
 
In addition to this you will, prepare monthly trial balance reconciliations ensuring accuracy and timely reporting, proactively support and line manage the finance team, ensuring that they are fully skilled to meet their personal objectives and proactively develop and improve financial systems to streamline processes and create efficiencies.
 
The successful candidate will be a qualified finance professional with the ability to address with a variety of financial requirements with confidence. You will have the ability to line manage the finance team, ensuring they have the required support for the finance team to operate efficiently. You will be a confident communicator with the ability to deliver complex information to a variety of stakeholders across the organisation. Finally, you will strong analytical and technical skills with a keen eye for operational improvement.

An Institute established by Royal Charter, is seeking a Finance Manager.

The organisation has income of Approx £1.1 million.

Part-Time Position; 0.5 FTE

Salary; £27,000

£54,000 Full time equivalent

This will be a Standalone finance position reporting into the CEO.

The Finance manager who will look after the range of book-keeping, reporting and accounting activities that are essential to its functioning. It is also expected that their advice will be helpful in discussion of existing and new initiatives that will lead to the Institute's further expansion and success.

Summary job description

They liaise with the Director in order to prepare the annual budget for Finance Committee and Council. They also monitor the institute's bank accounts, administer and prepare the Pay Roll, process invoices, maintain the ledgers, prepare and submit the accounts to the Charity Commission, liaise and prepare the institute's accounts for its annual audit, and prepare the relevant summary section for the annual report. Summary duties therefore include to:

• Process payments and receipts, monitor all accounts regularly
• Enter financial transactions on Sage Accounts and reconcile bank statements.
• Issue AIO and some other invoices and send reminders re outstanding invoices
• Keep staff salary information up-to-date, and prepare monthly payroll, work out and upload pension contributions
• Prepare annual accounts for main company and for three Trust Funds, and liaise with auditors
• Prepare annual budgets together with Director and Hon Treasurer
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns and file online
• Prepare and submit quarterly returns to Inland Revenue for VAT, and annual returns to Charity Commission for four charities.
• Organise and attend four annual meetings with investment fund managers and monitor investments
• Assist the Director in all financial and statutory matters, as required
• Grant applications/ reporting: assist staff as required and monitor reporting schedules

The client is reviewing on a rolling basis.

Surrey Community Action exists to support Surrey’s voluntary sector, the diverse communities of Surrey, and other organisations who seek to work with both.  We do this in three main ways:

About The Role

Securing Funding

You will help us secure funding for Surrey Community Action’s core activities and projects, working with all staff to prepare high quality funding proposals to Local Authorities, trusts, grant giving bodies, corporate partners and major donors.  You will also lead on negotiating renewals of funding and maintaining good working relationships with current commissioners and funders.

You will be comfortable working in collaboration with partners from across the voluntary and statutory sectors, always focusing on making the biggest difference to the people of Surrey.

Leadership and line management

This role looks after some of our community project officers who in turn provide information, advice, guidance, and support to a diverse range of stakeholders, including community buildings, rural housing enablers, Good Neighbours Schemes, Community Champions, Gypsy Roma and Traveller communities, and people in fuel poverty.

You will provide effective line management to our community project officers, focusing on developing them to excel in their roles and broaden their skills, making sure to lead by example and develop yourself alongside them.

Running the Charity

You will form an integral part of the management team, working in tandem with the Chief Executive, management team and Board of Trustees, supporting the charity in strategic leadership, performance management and development our projects and services.

Develop new projects and services

To succeed in this role, you will need to have or build a deep understanding of Surrey’s voluntary sector and communities.  You may design and conduct consultations and market research to deepen your knowledge and share it with peers and other stakeholders in ways tailored to our audiences.

The Nuts and Bolts

Our offices are in Burpham, Surrey (GU4 7HL).  This role can be delivered from the office, or as a hybrid role with 2-3 days in the office per week.

You will report directly to the Chief Executive and be responsible for 5-6 project officers.  You will be an equal part of our small management team and contribute to our trustee board meetings.

You may have to travel across Surrey and sometimes beyond, so access to transport would be an advantage where public transport is not an option (we can support you into Access to Work scheme as needed).

Responsibilities:

Finance and Fundraising:

• Ensure financial compliance and oversee bookkeeping, invoicing, and grant payments.

Required Experience:

• Proven experience in an operations or administrative management role within a charity, arts, or non-profit organisation.

We are looking for an exceptional Finance & Operations Director, for an interim one-year period, to help us ensure that all aspects of the charity and the Centre run smoothly and efficiently, and to provide effective financial management.

We are based at our beautiful Grade 2 listed building in Southwark. Our Centre houses an amazing collection of 25,000 children’s books as well as being a training and event centre for teachers, publishers and everyone else who works with children’s literature and cares about children’s literacy. We have a friendly, talented and committed team working both from the Centre and remotely. The post holder would be required to work at our Centre at least one day per week but may work remotely for the remainder of their hours.

Main responsibilities

People & culture

We are delighted to be partnering with a social care focused charity that drives excellence within the sector, to find a full time, fully remote, interim Finance Manager for the next few months with a view to extension.

About the role

Right now, we’re looking for a technical expert with experience of developing and maintaining ELT pipelines to move data between enterprise applications (a mix of both in-house and external and on-prem and in the cloud). Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for developing ETL processes using Fabric and Synapse linking from a variety of data sources to a wide variety of targets on-prem, cloud platforms and in Azure. We’ll also rely on you to ensure business requirements for new data feeds or changes are understood and translated into efficient and effective technical solutions. Exploring new ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data management across Shelter will be important too, as will transforming and centralising raw data from multiple platforms into user friendly reporting data. Writing, validating and executing test plans, troubleshooting performance issues and supporting Shelter’s wider data management initiatives – all are aspects of this interesting and varied role.

This is a newly created role which is being introduced to support the centralisation and future growth of the Trust. This hands-on role will be responsible for preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring all transactions and month-end processes are carried out, preparation of balance sheet, capital projects and fixed assets reconciliations , line management of finance officers and assistants, as well as oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable and VAT returns. You will be involved in cash flow forecasting, treasury/banking processes, budgeting/forecasting process, monthly reporting, variance analysis and more.
