The Children's Society
Bedfordshire (On-site)
£28,080.00 per annum/pro rata
Permanent
Job description
Permanent with funding until 31st March 2026

Hours: 28 hours per week

Salary: £35,100 full time equivalent of 35hrs/£28,080.00 pro rata salary for 28hrs per week

Location: Bedfordshire including Luton, Bedford and Central Bedfordshire. There is a requirement to have a visible presence in the Bedfordshire area at least 50% of the working week.

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way.

This role will be managing two projects and three staff:

-Bedfordshire Community Navigators funded by the Bedfordshire Violence Exploitation Reduction Unit.

-Advocacy contract in Oasis Secure School in Rochester, Kent [remote management] commissioned by Oasis Secure School

A key part of this role will be your ability to work in partnership across both projects.

In Bedfordshire, you will be the main point of contact for referrals, and will sit on multi-agency panels across the area to identify suitable referrals, advocate for young people and promote safeguarding responses to young people and young adults who are affected by exploitation. You will line manage two community navigators providing them with support and guidance to ensure 1:1 interventions are trauma informed and safe.

In Kent, you will work remotely to support the Advocate to ensure young peoples voices are heard and issues that affect them are responded to. You will balance maintaining a good working relationship with colleagues at Oasis Restore whilst ensuring the service remains an independent advocacy service.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have:

-Substantial experience of working with young people at risk of exploitation and/or serious youth violence.

-Understanding and knowledge of relevant children and young people's legislation including children's rights and advocacy, safeguarding and child protection.

-Track record of working with communities, external stakeholders (both locally and across the wider system) to deliver better outcomes for children and young people.

-Engaging, listening, sharing and using young people's views to shape services that they receive.

-Experience of leading projects / services related to exploitation

The Children's Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children's lives happier and safer.

Every day we're changing the lives of children in this country for the better - and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

The Children's Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks. We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services.

Therefore, candidates applying for work in our Youth Impact Domain will be required to complete an “Employment history_template” document prior to interview. The fully completed document should be loaded by the candidate at the point of uploading your CV.

The closing date for applications is 6th May 2025. If after 14 days, we have received enough applications, we can close this vacancy from the 28th April 2025.

Interviews will be held the w/c 12th or 19th May 2025.
