The COO’s will hold overarching responsibility for the daily business operations of the clinic. The COO will ensure efficient and effective management of all operational aspects, including programme implementation, volunteer management, and process optimisation.
They will be responsible for the management team and all volunteers within the organisation.
They will be able to effectively:
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring programmes are delivered efficiently and effectively following high-quality standards
- Develop and implement systems and processes to improve operational efficiency and scalability
- Manage and mentor volunteers, fostering a positive and productive environment and ensuring professional development opportunities
- Assist in budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure operational sustainability and alignment with strategic goals
- Collaborate with the CEO in developing and executing the strategic plan, ensuring alignment between operational activities and the clinic’s mission and objectives

We’re looking for admin volunteers to help with our daily operations. We have a variety of ways you can get involved:
- Responding to client requests and enquiries
- Fundrasing and partnership management
- Managing and updating company databases
- Keeping track of partnership enquiries
- Maintaining internal, volunteer, and client records
- Drafting and mailing client correspondence and newsletters
- Organising events, scheduling meetings, and making travel arrangements
- Providing administrative support to other departments or projects as needed
- Performing other duties as agreed in advance
We’ve designed our volunteering programme to be flexible and adaptive to you. All volunteering is 100% remote and you’re supported fully by our team. You control what you do and how many hours per week you want to volunteer. Some roles may require an Enhanced DBS check. If your application is successful, we will ask for a donation towards the cost of your enhanced DBS check if it's required for your role. This cost is £20.60.

A laptop and a quiet space to volunteer is essential.
How much time can you give?
A minimum of 3 hours per week is required. We are flexible and like to work around you.
Training
We provide CPD accredited training with 3 short courses needing to be completed prior starting your volunteer role. After, you’ll have access to over 90 CPD accredited courses should you want to study further.

About The Role
By supporting the Presentations team, you'll be helping us care for our ambassador animals who are an integral to the outreach and education work we do with our visitors on-site. This is a varied role, you may be cleaning out an otter holt and scrubbing ponds one day, and then helping to care for tadpoles the next, doing a spot of weeding along a path before supporting one of our bird displays! You'll also have opportunities to engage directly with our visitors and be a part of the story which helps inspire them to love wetlands and the incredible powers they have!
You will be helping with the daily husbandry of our demonstration birds, mammals and ectotherms. You may also be assisting with pond, enclosure and section maintenance, assisting with the upkeep of hygiene and biosecurity across the department, or creating enrichment to mentally stimulate our animals. Tasks may include:
- Scrubbing/netting or full cleans of ponds
- Assisting with the food-prep and feeding of some animals
- Cleaning enclosures
- Collecting foliage/ browse for the birds and mammals
- Washing up feed bowls and other dirty tools
- Collecting wood for new perches
- Weeding, to help maintain on-show and back of house areas
- Collecting daily temperatures for the amphibian habitats at Toad Hall
- Conducting deep cleans of section spaces; jobs the team on the ground might not always have the time to do thoroughly
- Signposting visitors to seats/exits during busy talks
- Designing or providing enrichment to some of our animals
- Observe animal training sessions
- Collecting or dropping of resources to other areas of the site
In this opportunity, you'll get to work closely with a fantastic and welcoming team and a fabulous bunch of critters; there are a lot of fun personalities to get to know. You'll get to work in the grounds of a stunning wetlands, and you're likely to see plenty of native wildlife as you go about your day too! You'll learn loads of new skills and gain experience working with and around a variety of taxonomic groups, each with their own particular wants and needs.

Role Summary:
The Chair of the Board of Trustees will provide strategic leadership to Hidayah, ensuring the organization remains aligned with its mission to support and advocate for LGBTQ+ Muslims. The Chair will guide the Board of Trustees in effective governance and act as an ambassador for the charity within both the Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Governance:
- Provide leadership to the Board, ensuring that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.
- Oversee the Board of Trustees’ operation, ensuring its members work collaboratively and effectively.
- Ensure the charity complies with its constitution, governing documents, charity law, and other relevant legislation/regulations.
- Strategy and Planning:
- Lead the development and implementation of the charity’s annual strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the needs of LGBTQ+ Muslims.
- Write the annual report outlining Hidayah’s impact and achievements
- Work with the Board of Trustees to ensure that strategic objectives are effectively executed and serve the community
- Write and develop a portfolio of policies to ensure the smooth running of Hidayah
- Board of Trustees Management:
- Chair monthly Board meetings effectively, ensuring decisions are taken in a timely manner and that actions are followed up.
- Facilitate a positive and inclusive Board culture where diverse viewpoints are encouraged and respected.
- Manage all volunteers taken on by Hidayah
- Advocacy and Representation:
- Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work within both the Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities and to a wider audience.
- Represent the charity at key events, meetings, and functions, and develop relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
- Financial Oversight:
- Oversee the charity’s financial health, ensuring it operates within its means and maintains proper financial control and accountability.
- Work with the Treasurer and the finance team to ensure the Board of Trustees receives accurate and timely financial information.
- Act as a signatory for Hidayah’s bank account and financial operations.
- To seek out partnerships, sponsors and endorsements from individuals and organisations.
- Risk Management:
- Ensure appropriate risk management policies and procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Regularly review and address potential risks to the charity’s operations and reputation.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in a leadership role within a charity, non-profit, or similar organization.
- Strong understanding of governance best practices and charity law.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
- Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing budgets and financial planning.

Terms of Appointment:
- The Chair will be appointed for an initial term of 3 years, which may be renewed for a further term(s).

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. We have been involving volunteers in supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and the number of people contacting us for help rises each year. To continue providing help when it’s needed most, we must ensure excellent financial administration and compliance.
Treasurers play a key role within SSAFA's Service Committees, ensuring that finances are well organised and administered in accordance with SSAFA regulations and charity law, using our online financial management system and online bank accounts.

Key role responsibilities
- Maintaining and reconciling the bank account and recording transactions.
- Making and recording authorised payments.
- Working together with the Chair and wider team around financial planning, advising on the financial implications of any plans and overseeing the annual budget.

- Maintaining accurate records using SSAFA’s online finance management system.
Training

What is a Helper?
SSAFA Helpers provide support to local SSAFA branches, so that the service to veterans and their families can run smoothly. Perhaps you could help out at an event, take care of some office admin, or give a talk about SSAFA?
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
We have peak times throughout the year when we need extra volunteers. Whether you enjoy organising behind the scenes or being out meeting the public, we need people who can offer some time on a flexible basis.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role will suit you if you are looking to volunteer on a flexible basis as and when you are available, and we need extra help. You may be based in an office, at home, or out and about at events.
What would you be doing?
- Helping at public events by staffing stalls, stewarding etc
- Helping to distribute Christmas hampers to clients.
- Giving talks about SSAFA to schools and local groups
- Helping with office tasks like stuffing envelopes, ordering marketing materials

We are currently recruiting for the role of Administration Manager, who will oversee the clinic's administrative operations and ensure the smooth functioning of our office and supports various departments. They will respond to the CEO and COO, and be responsible for the Administrative Coordinator and IT Coordinator. They must be regularly available remotely and in person on Saturdays 1-6pm.
The Administration Manager will:
- manage and optimise office procedures and resources to ensure efficient operations and a productive work environment.
- provide administrative support to management, including scheduling, correspondence, and document management.
- maintain accurate records and databases, ensuring compliance with GDPR and organisational standards.
- assist in budget planning and management for administrative expenses, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability.

We're looking for a committed and passionate individual to join our Board of Trustees. It is a friendly and experienced group, who govern the charity and support the CEO and Operations Manager to run the organisation. We're looking for people with a broad range of experience on our Board, but it would be advantageous to have marketing and / or fundraising experience.

- Preparing for Board Meetings by reading all Board Documents sent prior to the meeting
- Provide guidance when required, to support CEO and Operations Manager
- Contribute to Improving Lives' review of Strategic Plan, as required
