Business in the Community (BITC) is looking for an individual based close to the M62 Corridor of the North West region – to develop our next place to operationalise its Community Climate Fund. Join a team setting up our Community Climate Fund (CCF), that aims to raise £100m and be actively supporting community climate action in 25 places across the UK by 2030. This is an exciting opportunity to identify and deliver a plan in a place (e.g. Salford, an area in Manchester, Warrington or Wigan) to have a positive social, environmental and economic impact for the communities there.
The Community Climate Fund Senior Lead, will be responsible for the successful development and delivery of the fund in the vicinity of the M62 corridor and will:
- Increase resilience to economic and environmental shocks
- Strengthen community coherence and wellbeing
- Accelerate progress towards net zero
The role will involve:
- Identifying and developing our next place in the North West of England to operationalize our Community Climate Fund.
- Developing a deep understanding of, and engagement with the community organisations present in the area as potential beneficiaries of the Community Climate Fund.
- Nurturing relationships with cross sector representatives at all levels to collaborate and ensure the community climate fund meets local needs.
- Working with our climate action experts and the steering group, to select community climate projects to fund.
This role will be based close to the M62 Corridor - the post holder will work from home, but be willing and able to commute to the selected place approximately twice a week.

About the role:

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a member of the first international climate NGO specialising in steel decarbonisation, you will work with other SteelWatch team members located across Asia-Pacific, Africa and Europe. The Executive Assistant will be a vital team member, providing critical, executive administrative support to enable the Executive Director and SteelWatch Leadership team to operate effectively. The duties associated with the role will evolve significantly as SteelWatch evolves. The Executive Assistant reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
The role is focused on supporting the Executive Director and SteelWatch Leadership team on a number of tasks, not limited to:

Manage diaries, schedule appointments, set up meetings, adapting to priorities.

Organise and book travel arrangements according to diary needs and internal policies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: The position is remote, and the location should be in a time zone within two hours of Central European Time. The UK location is a benefit. You must have the right to work in your location, and you will be employed in that country. SteelWatch is unable to support any visa application process.
Work environment: The work is mainly remote, although some face-to-face meetings are essential, within Europe. Working hours are flexible. Team members are currently located in Japan, the UK, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, and the team will continue to grow internationally. There will be some early mornings or evenings to accommodate interactions across time zones, with the flexibility to adjust your weekly schedule accordingly. Travel will be required to collaborate with allies and meet the team in person.
Terms and salary: The role is expected to be long-term and managed via an Employer of Record. The initial contract will be for 12 months, if feasible, within local employment regulations. While we envision this as a full-time role, we are open to other options (minimum 60% unless a job share). Please specify your preference in your application, and if part-time, state the number of days per week.
The UK salary for this position is in the range of £28,000 to £34,000 per annum, pro rata, based on experience. Comparable salaries in other countries are based on market rates.

As a Business Planning Officer, you will play a crucial role in the development and execution of strategic business plans, ensuring the smooth operation of annual planning cycles, team-specific business plans, and effective coordination of various business activities.

The scope of the role of the Financial Controller is to lead a best-in-class financial control function which:
- meets and exceeds the charity’s legal and statutory responsibilities
- builds finance capacity through efficient systems and processes
- enables timely, accurate and meaningful business analysis
- ensures charity resources are protected
- meets the high-quality assurance standards
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise the processing of all financial transactions, ensuring adequate documentary support, correct coding and appropriate authorisation, such that the accounting system reflects the financial position of the charity.
- Supervise the processing of the payroll, ensuring coding is correct and all payments, including deductions, are made on time.
- Ensure month-end timetable is adhered to, making sure that all bank and control account reconciliations have been carried out and that other month-end procedures have been duly completed.
- Maintain the chart of accounts, approving any changes.
- Ensure all income is banked promptly and all liabilities are settled when due.
- Ensure all income and expenditure are appropriately analysed and restricted and designated funds are correctly accounted for.
About You
You will need to have the following skills and experience:
- A fully qualified CCAB accountant
- Demonstrable experience in the preparation of SORP compliant accounts
- Strong internal control environments and effective month end and year-end routines
- Experience in the development of efficient business systems would also be desirable
- The ability to lead and develop a high performing team whilst successfully coordinating the work of the department to meet internal and external timescales is key to the role
- Excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to work within a cross-functional Leadership Team to continuously improve the service and support delivered by the Finance directorate

The position:
As Social Media Coordinator, you will live and breathe all things social media, leading all activities across our Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, YouTube, and LinkedIn, as well as keeping an eye out for opportunities elsewhere on social media.

Hours:
This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week over Monday to Friday.
From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.
During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, to be worked across Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.
