Why am I needed?

Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help sort, value and display our book donations in our shops to help turn them into cash.
What will I be doing?
Sorting through our book donations and pricing them ready for sale
Researching interesting books online on sites such as eBay, Amazon and Abe Books to value them for sale in the shop
Displaying the books on the shop floor ensuring books are rotated regularly to increase sales
Enlisting help from local auction houses when needed
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in books, know what to look out for with book publishing dates etc.
A really keen eye for detail and ability to cross reference items across a number of websites to provide the most realistic valuation
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
Ability to use computer for research
You may need to handle bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form. All we ask is that you give the same hours each week and that you let us know as soon as you can if you’re not able to make it. This’ll help us to plan our week.

We are seeking a new Chair for the Pear Tree Fund. This is a fantastic opportunity if you want to help shape the future of a charity and make a real difference to people's lives.
We provide information, advice and holistic support to anyone with a life-changing illness or long-term condition who lives in East Suffolk and neighbouring parts of Mid Suffolk and South Norfolk, and to families and carers. Services and support are provided from the Pear Tree Centre in Halesworth, or by telephone, online and in the home. We pride ourselves on walking alongside people, offering local support when they need it the most.
We welcome applications from people with skills and expertise at a senior level in the Charitable Sector, Health and Social Care or a Service development background. Applicants with non-executive experience would be particularly welcomed.
We are a small charity so we need a Chair who can commit to regular face to face meetings with staff as well as representing the charity at external events. The time commitment is around 4 days a month. Most of the Trustee meetings are held remotely but twice a year we hold face to face meetings at The Pear Tree Centre.

About The Role
Are you passionate about nature and enthusiastic about sharing this passion with other people? As a guide in the hide, you can deepen your knowledge of the history and biodiversity of Caerlaverock site, and be the first to share this to engage visitors at the site.
By providing an excellent visitor experience as a member of the visitor facing team, you will beencouraging our visitors to make the most of their visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, and tounderstand and support our work to save wetlands for wildlife and people.

About The Role
We are looking for friendly, outgoing people who would like to be directly involved in shaping our visitors’ unforgettable experiences through a warm welcome, interacting with them through engaging activities and providing information.
Within this role you will get the opportunity to contribute to a variety of fun activities for children and families during the weekend or school holidays. Help with anything from pond dipping and bug hunts to story telling and historical re-enactments. If these activities sound like something you could help with running and if you have an interest in inspiring children in nature, this could be the role for you!

About You
No previous experience is required as training will be provided in all areas. However this role will suit you if you have a love of wildlife and the outdoors and are:
• Able to work in a team of staff and volunteers.

Could you help to raise vital funds for SSAFA in your local area? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to get on with all kinds of people and some occasional free time.
What is a Branch Fundraiser?
As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
- Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
- Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
- Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
