Assistant Director of Finance
Are you a strategically focused finance professional with the skills to both lead a finance team and support colleagues in other departments with financial planning, analysis and budgeting?
Charity People are proud to be working with the National Literacy Trust, a leading national charity, to recruit for the newly created role of Assistant Director of Finance. The charity is growing rapidly and income is now £12million. Working closely with and reporting to the Director of Operations, you will lead our finance operations, line managing a Head of Finance and responsible for their three direct reports. You will also be part of the charity's extended leadership team.
Salary: £65,500 - £70,000 per annum + 8% employer pension contributions
Contract: 35 hours per week, full time, permanent
Hybrid: Flexible home working, working from the office in Vauxhall approximately once a week
This is an exciting time to join this ambitious and growing charity. Candidates applying for this role must have experience of strategic financial planning and development of financial strategy. You will also be responsible for streamlining and improving our financial systems and integration with other systems across the organisation.
Some of your key duties and responsibilities are;
- Produce the three-year financial plan and associated financial modelling
- Produce and implement the financial strategy that underpins the three-year plan
- Lead all financial planning and analysis including forecasting, budgeting and cash management
- Lead the finance department, providing effective line management and team support, overseeing the quality of our financial reporting and ensuring that all statutory requirements are met
- Work closely with Head of Finance and Company Secretary to complete and file statutory accounts and all related reporting
- Prepare Trustee Reports analysing performance and risk analysis
- Collaborate with Department Heads and Directors to create budgets and reports and track key performance indicators
- Support KPI reporting across the organisation

Purpose of the Assistant Designer role:
The Assistant Designer will support the Exhibitions and Interpretation department to develop and deliver graphic design across the Museum, working closely with the Designer. They will design both permanent and temporary exhibition graphics, as well as designing wayfinding signage for the Museum sites and supporting wider Museum departments with design requests, such as events marketing materials.
The Assistant Designer will support the delivery of the Museum’s Midlands Development Programme, developing and delivering graphic design for exhibition updates and wayfinding graphics, as well as supporting co-creation activities with local communities.
Key responsibilities of our Assistant Designer include:
- Designing and managing production of exhibition graphics, wayfinding and signage at both Museum sites, including permanent and temporary exhibitions 3
- Supporting Museum departments with graphic design production as required, working closely with the Communications and Marketing, Retail, Learning and Engagement, Visitor Experience and Development teams
- Responding to graphic design helpdesk requests in a timely manner
- Ensuring signage at both public sites is up to date, liaising with the Visitor Experience teams
- Upholding the Museum Style Guide in all graphic design • To ensure that graphic design is accessible for all visitors
- Ensuring all projects are delivered within agreed budgets to defined deadlines to the highest quality standards of display and interpretation

What we are looking for in our Assistant Designer:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in graphic design
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and other 3D and 2D design software

Role outline and purpose
Ensuring the delivery of The Trussell Trust’s vision to end the need for food banks in the UK by developing an in-depth understanding of Trussell Trust food banks in their area and using coaching and assist to build and hold productive relationships to:
· Develop and execute a strategic plan for reducing the need for food banks’ services locally.
· Work alongside local partners to increase public will for long-term solutions to end the need for food banks.
· Develop and manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders to assist evidenced-based policy change at a local level and feed into activity to drive policy and practice at UK wide and national levels.
Responsibilities
· Assisting trustees, staff and volunteers within food banks to develop their plans to end the need for their services locally through the strategic key areas of operations, volunteering, data, participation, church engagement, governance and stability, financial inclusion, stakeholder engagement, local influencing, referral pathways and signposting.
· Assist food banks to operate in a safe, legal and dignified manner (through calls, visits, training, meeting facilitation and our risk management and self-assessment processes) and assist the facilitation of good practice within the network and wider organisation (through cluster meetings, regional forums, road shows, webinars, peer support and internal meetings).
· Contribute to the development and promotion of support available to food banks through the Trussell Trust (including use of the digital hub, toolkits, partnerships and expert advice) and assist food banks with grant application processes, as required.
· Develop and manage positive relationships with relevant external stakeholders, including local councils and anti-poverty networks, to ensure the Trussell Trust vision is understood and able to influence local decisions, whilst supporting and empowering food banks to foster these relationships locally.
· Work with food banks to ensure that local churches (including church leaders) are connected to and have an understanding of the importance of ending the need for food banks in local communities.
· Support the development, and lead on aspects of delivery, of projects with food banks and external partners that contribute to ending the need for food banks.
· Ensure the voice of our network is heard throughout the organisation through reporting, information sharing and participation in additional working groups and projects.
Technical skills and minimum knowledge:
· Competent and efficient use of IT, particularly the main Microsoft Office programmes. Previous experience of Salesforce or similar CRM system is desirable.
· Experience of working innovatively and creatively.

· Strong organisational skills and experience of managing competing priorities within challenging timescales.

The Role
You will be joining the Charity at an exciting time as they work towards the plan to become a fully independent Charity by 2025. You will be responsible for overseeing an ambitious fundraising strategy as well as leading the capital appeal to expand the neonatal unit.
A key element of this role will be to identify new opportunities to grow and develop new income streams, providing team leadership to Charity team and their activities to build the fundraising and grant-making capacity.
As Charity Director you will play a key role in developing new strategies and diversifying income streams as well as working closely with the Chair of the Charity to a devise a brand-new five-year plan for the Charity.
About you
You must have had significant experience of leading a small or medium sized charity or have been a senior manager within a larger charity, including demonstrable experience in leading successful change management and service developments as well as be able to demonstrate that you have successfully worked towards targets. Capital appeal experience would also be advantageous. You also need experience of devising and implementing a strategic fundraising plan.

Purpose of the job
We are seeking a skilled engagement officer to work on our projects in London and the Thames Basin. This role offers an opportunity for the post holder to make a difference to diverse areas of London, with differing challenges and an array of ambitions.
The key skill for this role is being able to connect with and bring people together. The project relies on creating strong networks of local institutions, such as schools and local authorities; grassroots organisations and groups; community leaders and representatives from the public and private sectors, including councillors and politicians.

Vision for the role
Migrant Democracy Project (MDP) envisions a society where all migrants at home in the UK hold collective, political power to shape a society rooted in justice, freedom, and solidarity.
We are looking for a full-time Community Organiser to organise first-generation migrants in the UK towards migrant justice through electoral and community organising. The organiser’s work will connect across 3 streams: voter registration; advocacy & campaigns; and political empowerment.
Whether it’s engaging migrants at a voter registration stall, supporting migrant communities to organise in the electoral space, or strengthening a local campaign - the lived experience of first generation migrants is at the heart of all our activities.
We are looking for an experienced organiser who is passionate about migrants’ rights and democratic reform to start working as soon as possible.
Who funds the role?
The role is funded by a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
Contract
This is a fixed term contract, 2 years (with the possibility of extension depending on future grants), £32,000 pro rata, with an immediate start, including NI and 3% employer pension contribution.
We are looking for an organiser who can work full-time hours flexibly, including evening and weekend time where events require. When work is carried out by any Migrant Democracy Project employee outside normal working hours, time off in lieu is applied.
Location
Migrant Democracy Project does not have a physical office. The Organiser will work flexibly from home on administrative tasks and be expected to work in-person when necessary to deliver voter registration, training, informative, advocacy and campaign activities, as well as representing MDP at relevant events.
