This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Building Advisor. You will be responsible for ensuring that Refuge complies with statutory building and property obligations and monitor changes in industry standards and regulators requirements. The post holder will also monitor obligations in property agreements and support corporate services and provide technical advice which may require research. The post holder will collect property data to demonstrate compliance and for reporting purposes as well as update Refuge’s property polices accordingly and train people.

Founded in 1997, GamCare is one of the leading providers of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, provide treatment for anyone who is harmed by gambling, create awareness about safer gambling and treatment, and encourage an effective approach to safer gambling within the gambling industry.

The Role

The GamCare Helpline is the first port of call for those seeking help, advice, and support for gambling related harm. You will be supporting those affected by their own, or someone else’s gambling. Working to a four-week shift pattern between 7am and 11pm Monday-Sunday, you will deliver support through a growing number of channels.

It’s a great time to join us and be an integral part of the team providing support, as we grow our team to help and provide valuable support to an increasing number of people who are contacting our helpline.

Support is delivered via our freephone telephone helpline, live chat and digital platforms which include WhatsApp and Facebook messenger. The helpline is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Those that contact us are often in distress, and you will be supported throughout to provide empathy and appropriate guidance.

In addition to providing direct support, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of services by joining working groups, supporting projects and other initiatives, collaborating with wider remote services and the GamCare team. 

You will identify and implement improvements to respond to the changing demands of GamCare, ensuring that the team continues to provide high-quality services.

About You

You will have worked in a role where you have provided support remotely, ideally via telephone and live chat. As the demand for digital channels continue to grow, you will have the skills required to provide effective support in this way.

You will also have empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing gambling harms.

Candidates should have experience of successfully pitching stories to national media, and know what makes a good health story. Responsibilities

• Handle incoming enquiries and provide accurate, timely and appropriate responses, briefing journalists in line with RCS England key messages and priorities.
• Participate in an out-of-hours rota for media enquiries. Time off in lieu is offered for significant out-of-office hours worked.
• Research, write and distribute press releases, features, letters and other editorial material.
• Draft articles, quotes and opinion pieces on behalf of RCS England spokespeople.
• Provide press office support to the Faculty of Dental Surgery and its Dean, as required.
• Brief the President, Council Members and senior managers on issues arising in the media.
• Act as the press lead for key projects such as RCS England guidance or campaigns. Devising and implementing communications plans, sharing project updates with the wider communications team, and maintaining a good understanding of surgical and wider health issues.
• Horizon scan for media opportunities and develop your own ideas for health coverage based on data, insights or RCS England priorities.
• Brief, support and prepare RCS England spokespeople for media interviews.
• Establish and maintain professional and trusted relationships with national and trade journalists.
• Represent the RCS England at internal and external meetings, and maintain professional relationships with press and communications leads at stakeholder organisations.
• Monitor daily media coverage relevant to surgery and the RCS England. This includes pulling together the team’s daily press cuts to be shared with Council members, Trustees, and key RCS England staff by 10am (subject to urgent media enquiries).
• Maintain and update the media sections of the RCS England website, working with the web team to develop rich digital content. Actively participate in developing our social media profile using Twitter, Facebook, and commissioning and editing relevant blogs.
• Produce evaluation reports of media coverage and communications activity.
• Undertake such duties appropriate to the grade, as required by your line manager.

About you

• Degree educated or proven extensive experience that can demonstrate the essential criteria below.
• At least two years’ experience of working in a press office.
• Experience of writing and editing for a variety of media including print and the internet.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint packages.
• Demonstrable experience of placing stories in the media.
• Rigour in researching and reviewing content: able to identify key points, summarise findings and report data and conclusions accurately.

They will play a key role in helping to develop new services and where appropriate will take operational control of these.

About the Role

The Head of Service post holder will take the lead responsibility (under Ofsted registration) as the Adoption Manager of CoramIAC. They will ensure the ongoing delivery of an outstanding VAA that is fully compliant with national minimum standards and regulations; and ensuring high quality adoption support and a sufficient supply of adopters that reflects the diversity of the countries they are adopting from.

Applying to adopt in the UK is open to anyone already in the process with CoramIAC but we do not actively recruit domestic adopters like other VAAs. Approved Intercountry Adopters may however request to change their approval advice to the UK if they are considered a suitable match for children available and waiting for permanence through Adoption in the UK.

CoramIAC predominantly serve prospective adopters from the global majority and as such recruit and train a highly diverse and skilled group of adopters to enable the best outcomes for children whilst also offering adopter and sector diversity for potentially harder to place children. On 1st June 2024, Richmond Fellowship, part of Recovery Focus, a national group of charities highly experienced in providing specialist support services to individuals and families living with the effects of mental ill health, drug and alcohol use, gambling and domestic violence merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. The Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (CfD) is a registered small-sized charity that delivers a wide range of services including community development initiatives and assistive equipment services to people in Bristol who are Deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing. Our mission statement includes, we are working toward creating a Bristol “where everyone can participate in all aspects of life in the city, whatever their level of hearing”.

CfD challenges the prejudice and barriers that Deaf and hard of hearing people face in their daily lives. Summary of duties:

Our Community Outreach Worker will support the delivery of our new community development project: Connecting People into Communities, funded by Bristol City Council.

The role will include:

• Establishing drop-in sessions throughout Bristol for Deaf and hard of hearing people as a first contact point.

• Signposting/referring individuals to appropriate services and offering support with connecting people into communities – including the Deaf Community, hard of hearing peer support, and local community hubs.

• Providing information on activities and events occurring across Bristol and local hubs.

• Finding out what hard of hearing people in Bristol would like to see CfD offering.

• Strengthening our relationship with community organisations and other community based services, including those who support people from minority ethnic groups.

• Exploring how we can extend our work to reach more Deaf and hard of hearing people aged under 50.

• Developing content for our website so that it becomes a resource for organisations who want to improve their inclusion of Deaf and hard of hearing people.

The post holder will be a part of CfD’s Communities Team and will be expected to support the work of our other community projects i.e. our Deaf People Together and Community Hub projects. The post holder will be based at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol BS16 2QQ.

The main responsibilities are to:

• To support the delivery of the Connecting People to Communities project so that it meets its aims by:

- Increasing our contact with organisations and hubs that work with minority ethnic groups throughout Bristol, particularly with those who support older people, and with organisations based in areas of deprivation.

- Working with community hubs (e.g. community centres, libraries etc) to provide regular CfD “drop-ins” – primarily as a first contact point and to alleviate isolation and loneliness.

- Signposting and referring individuals to appropriate services, and supporting individuals with connecting to communities.

- Providing advice and guidance to community hubs on how to make their venues, events and activities accessible to and inclusive of Deaf and hard of hearing people.

- Providing information on activities and events for Deaf and hard of hearing people across Bristol and local hubs.

- Finding out what hard of hearing people in Bristol would like to see CfD offering and what support they need.

• To support the work of our Communities Team by:

- Helping to run events so that local Deaf and hard of hearing people and communities have their say about how services are developed.

- Planning and attending project events e.g. coffee mornings, workshops etc.

- Developing positive relationships between service providers and Deaf and hard of hearing people, and advising providers on how to improve their services to become more accessible and inclusive.

- Supporting the Community Development Officer with collecting project monitoring and evaluation data e.g. equality monitoring data, case studies on the experiences of Deaf and hard of hearing people, and recording information on the database.

- Supporting the Community Development Officer with publicising our Small Community Grants scheme, and supporting existing groups with organising their events/activities.

- Working with the Community Development Officer to set up and facilitate Deaf-led advisory group(s).

• To provide content from project activities for CfD’s website and social media, such as information about activities and events.

• Be part of the team representing CfD at local events and exhibitions.

• Be flexible in your working hours. You may be asked to represent the project at meetings/events outside core working hours, or to complete any other duties that may be reasonably required for the performance of this position.

General

• Attend conferences, training, and other staff development opportunities.

• Develop an agreed personal training plan and carry this out using internal and external training as required.

• Adhere to and promote CfD’s policies and standards, especially the Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Communication policies.

• Act as an ambassador for CfD, promoting a positive and professional image and attitude at all times.

Terms and conditions:

1. This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours a week. CfD’s core hours are 10am – 4pm. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

2. Contract until January 31st 2026, with possibility of an extension subject to further funding.

3. Salary £22,000 - £27,000 a year.

Note:

The final interpretation of this job description rests with the CEO in consultation with the Board of Trustees and the jobholder. The job description will be reviewed in the course of supervision meetings and any amendments will be negotiated with the jobholder. The jobholder is also expected to share in other CfD activities as time permits and by agreement with the CEO.

Solihull Integrated Addiction Service (SIAS) is a partnership between four organisations jointly responsible for the delivery of the drug, alcohol and gambling services, in the Borough of Solihull. We offer services for adults who use or are affected by substance use and gambling.

Your challenge? As a Complex Needs Practitioner, you will be working with clients within various locations to support clients in addressing their substance needs using a person-centred approach, empowering them to reduce risk, increase resilience and achieve positive outcomes.

You will be working within the passionate team at Healthwatch Stockport to effectively engage with local people, communities who have a lived or living experience of serious mental illness and of using mental health services in Stockport.

You will • Develop, oversee, and implement the Living Well Expert by Experience workstream plan in partnership with people who have lived experience in using mental health services.

• Promote the aims and objectives of the workstream of throughout Stockport with service users, potential users of the services and services themselves.

Contract type
