Job description

Ambient Support is a registered UK charity with over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support services for older people, people with mental health needs and people with learning disabilities. Their wide range of quality specialist services are delivered by Ambient’s dedicated, professional and passionate staff and their success is built on supporting people to live a full and meaningful life – regardless of age, health or disability. They are currently seeking a Head of HR to join their charity and head up a small HR function of two HR Advisors and two part-time HR administrators.

Your new role

As the Head of HR, you will be the senior organisational HR lead, responsible for the HR function, including the development and implementation of HR strategies, plans, policies, and processes. You will lead the HR team in delivering high-quality HR support and advisory services to the Group Executive Management Team (GEMT), Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and employees across the organisation.

As the HR lead at subcommittee level, you will develop agendas, present reports and respond to Trustee queries. You will oversee the ongoing implementation of the People and Culture System (Access People XD). You will provide professional guidance to your team on complex employee relations issues, and occasionally lead of organisational critical ER issues such as high-profile consultations. You will build strong relationships with union and employee representatives and coach leaders on HR procedures. You will support leaders in building organisational capabilities, promote change management, ensure legal compliance and coordinate engagement activities like staff surveys. Additionally, you will supervise team members, conduct annual appraisals, and manage planning, budgeting, and performance processes.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will be Chartered or Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, or significant equivalent experience, as well as:

  • Significant experience in Senior HR positions, working with both operational and strategic HR, with proven people leadership skills.
  • An understanding of Social Care and the sector’s challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and evidence of an ability to lead or guide on complex employee relations issues.
  • Interest and aptitude to work with HRIS s e.g. Access/People XD
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, to effectively manage and develop constructive relationships with key stakeholders, colleagues and leaders at all levels.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset, self-driven, assertive, solution orientated and a strong decision maker.
  • Drive and passion for people and organisational development, and a demonstrable commitment to ED&I.

What you'll get in return

This is an ideal position for an experienced Head of HR who wants to contribute their skills and knowledge to a charity in the social care sector as the senior HR lead, or for an ambitious and passionate senior HR Manager who is ready to step up into a Head of role. You will be given a lot of responsibility, can help shape the role, and work in a matrix environment.

This is a permanent position offering a salary of circa 65,000 and a benefits package including 29 days leave in addition to bank holidays. This role offers genuine hybrid working to enable work-life balance.
