We are seeking to appoint 11 lay chair members to our Hearings Panel.
About the GOC
We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance and conduct.
About the Hearings Panel
The Hearings Panel’s work relates to our Fitness to Practise functions. The Panel consists of around 70 members, lay (non-registrant) and registrant, from whom members of our Fitness to Practise Committees (FtPCs) and Registration Appeals Committees (RACs) are drawn. As a lay chair member of our Hearings Panel, you will chair either FtPCs or RACs.
You do not have to be a legally qualified individual or have specialist medical knowledge for this role. We are looking for individuals who can chair meetings effectively and impartially, ensure that allegations are considered fairly and independently, and that standards are maintained for registrants and the protection of the public.
A FtPC considers whether a registrant’s fitness to practise is impaired and imposes sanctions if appropriate to do so. This includes considering allegations, hearing evidence, and determining the fitness to practise, train or carry on business of our registrants.
A FtPC also determines whether it is necessary for interim measures (suspension or conditions) to be put in place whilst an investigation is in progress for the protection of members of the public or in the interests of a registrant.
A RAC considers an appeal against a decision by our Registrar to refuse to enter or restore an individual or business to the appropriate register; and applications for restoration by former registrants who have been erased by the FtPC.

Remuneration and time commitment
This role requires a commitment of approximately 16-20 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings. Meetings will usually take place via MS teams, but on occasion may be held at our offices in Central London.
A daily fee of £372 is paid in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule, and expenses can also be claimed.

The post holder will be fully involved in all aspects of the day-to-day management of their designated service, including line managing the relevant front-line staff. - Lead and motivate your team to ensure the championing of and maintenance of a positive local culture within your service

Role responsibilities
- Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme
- Match students with volunteer tutors
- Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance

We are seeking a Therapeutic Practitioner to join our newly established Health Team. This specialist role will enhance our current provision and improve the quality and breadth of mental health support available to young people. The successful candidate will work within the Health Team, in collaboration with our partner organisation Camden & Islington Young People's Service, to deliver 1:1 emotional and practical support, assist in our drop-in service, and facilitate workshops for all young people experiencing homelessness.
You will specialise in helping young people improve their self-confidence while improving their understanding of difficult emotions such as anger. Additionally, you will focus on developing their thinking and practical skills, as well as coping and de-escalation strategies. Your work will aim to improve relationships among young people within the day centre, and continue to promote trauma informed working practices across New Horizon, so that all of our services are designed to address the psychological and emotional needs of young people who are unsafe or facing homelessness.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Forensic Psychologist to support our service based in Croydon. Based at a 27-bed residential property which specialises in forensic mental health, complex needs and dual diagnosis. As a Forensic Psychologist, you will support individuals with specific needs, and offer a level of contact, support, and supervision to support our residents to reintegrate within society. You will be providing psychological assessments and support residents who have multiple and complex needs that need support from our staff teams to meet their personal goals.
Penrose Croydon: A 27-bed residential property specialising in forensic mental health, complex needs and dual diagnosis. We offer psychologically-informed housing and resettlement support that comes with additional help for individuals’ specific needs. Our forensic mental health step-down services consist of four individual sites which cater for high and medium support for both, men and women.
Shift Pattern: 22.5 hours per week, shift pattern to be agreed.
This role is the equivalent of NHS band 8B

WHAT'S SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL HOLD?
- Provide advice and guidance to the wider team on criminology, psychology, and behavioural patterns, and how they link to resident/participant behaviours and engagement.
- Provide highly specialised psychological assessment for participants/residents with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of data from a variety of sources, which may include neuropsychological testing.
- Exercise full clinical responsibility for resident/participant psychological care as a care coordinator within a multidisciplinary team.
- Formulate and implement plans for various therapy routes and management of assessing mental health conditions based upon appropriate conceptual frameworks and evidence-based practice.
- Discuss and negotiate care plans with all relevant internal and external parties.
- Undertake highly skilled evaluations and make decisions about treatment options and provide guidance and consultation to other parties contributing to the resident/participant’s diagnosis, formulation, and intervention plan.
- Facilitate one to one and group workshops and interventions, workshops, PIE training, and support with implementation plans across the organisation.
- Ensure all work carried out is compliant with Health and Safety, CPD activities and HCPC requirements.
Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position.
KEY CRITERIA
What we are looking for:
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in Applied Psychology (or equivalent) as accredited by the BPD (or equivalent awarding body)
- HCPC registration as an applied Psychologist with chartered status
- Previous experience working as a qualified forensic psychologist, including working with people with complex backgrounds/needs and a good understanding of the sector
- Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs
- Ability to teach, train, consult, and deliver clinical supervision
- Understanding of criminology, psychology, and behavioural patterns, and how they link to different behaviours and engagement
- Ability to understand and apply safeguarding protocols as they arise
- Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents

About you
We are looking for candidates with a positive approach and excellent professional skills. The successful candidate will have knowledge of potential communication and dysphagia challenges. You will also have knowledge of assessment tools and a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to our client group, who have a range of needs such as LD, ASD, PMLD and epilepsy.

We are seeking a capable Peer Supporter who will support parents at Preston Hospital and Ormskirk Hospital and at various community settings in Lancashire and offer support in service user homes. About the Role
You will be responsible for offering breastfeeding support for parents within Preston Hospital and Ormskirk Hospital and the community.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

The role is 17.5 hours per week which will be worked Monday Tuesday, Thursday 09:00 – 15:00. This will be split across the two hospitals, in service user homes and at community settings across Lancashire, however there is also some home-based working required.
