About Pain Concern
Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Visit our website to find out more about what we do, including our Airing Pain radio programme, Pain Matters magazine, information helpline, community pain education sessions and our research and campaigning work.
All pain is unpleasant, but for the 7.8 million people in the UK living with long-term pain it is a part of everyday life. It diminishes quality of life more than any other condition, leading often to loss of work, depression and disability. Anyone at any age can develop persistent pain and you will very probably know somebody affected. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively with life-changing results
Role purpose
We have various fundraising events throughout the year and we are looking for volunteers to help us to support our amazing fundraisers. This would involve joining us at the fundraising events to cheer them on. This role would suit enthusiastic people who would like to motivate fundraisers to complete their event. We will have at least one cheer point along the route, where we will be showing our dedicated fundraisers how much we support them by cheering and clapping as loud as we can. This will also help to increase awareness of Pain Concern and the support the charity provides.
1 in 4 people in the UK live with long term pain, help us to help others by cheering on our fundraisers!
To find upcoming fundraising events local to you, please visit our website. Travel and lunch expenses can be reimbursed in line with our Expense Policy. We’d love to have you join us as a Cheer Volunteer why not bring your friends and family along too.
What you would be doing
· Keeping an eye on our website to see which fundraising event(s) you would like to attend
· Working with our Fundraising Team who will be organising the cheer stations
· Adhere to Pain Concern’s policies and procedures
· Representing Pain Concern in a professional manner

Home-Start believes that the earliest years make the biggest impact. Our work is with families who have (at least) one child under five and that are facing challenges such as loneliness, postnatal depression, or multiple births. We train volunteers to visit the family once a week, supporting them in a variety of emotional and practical ways. This is for 2 to 3 hours a week, one day per week.
By visiting a family in their own home, our volunteers represent a lifeline to families who are struggling to cope. They offer non-judgemental, confidential support in a way that is tailored to the needs of that individual family. By doing this, our volunteers support them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and forge links within their local community.
Our approach works because our volunteers have parenting experience or experience with children, and they understand the stresses and strains of life. They are there to listen; not to judge.
To volunteer with Home-Start, we ask that you are a good listener, have an interest in supporting families, and are able to volunteer in the daytime for a minimum of 6 months. You should have experience with children/families, a desire to help and support others and have a 'can-do' attitude.
You might not think it, but your lived experience, your unique background, and the languages you speak, could hugely benefit the families we support. You can work alongside them to help them regain their confidence and resilience. In doing so, you can directly increase the chance of local children growing up happier and healthier.
Full training is provided (25- hour course) and an enhanced DBS check will be required.
Languages particularly needed: Albanian, Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Bengali, Pashto, British Sign Language.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Dogs for Good is driven by the belief that dogs, and the bond we share with them, enable people to live happier healthier lives. We want to support more people to benefit from these connections and have an exciting new strategy to expand our reach and impact.
We are looking for up to four new Trustees to join our Board on a voluntary basis and help us to achieve this ambition.
With ultimate responsibility for the charity, our Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership, guidance and oversight to ensure our continued growth and success. The Board works closely with, and holds to account, the executive team, supporting the management of the organisation and making sure that we deliver our objectives.
Dogs For Good is committed to having a diverse Board with wide-ranging levels of experience and the knowledge, capability and skills to draw upon in its governance and decision-making; specifically in the following areas:
- Finance, charity and/or social value accounting
- Digital transformation – especially in a charity context
- Marketing, campaigns and public affairs
The Board is currently comprised of the Chair and seven other Trustees. It meets five times each year in Banbury; one of these meetings includes the AGM.
Dogs For Good holds a variety of events and meetings for volunteers each year, and we encourage Trustees to attend one or two of these, where possible.
Trustees serve a fixed term of three years from the date of their appointment and, if qualified, are eligible for reappointment for a further two terms. While this is an unpaid voluntary role, reasonable expenses will be paid.
For more information on the role of a Trustee, please download the Trustee Recruitment Pack
The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 18 November.
Dogs for Good is committed to being a diverse and inclusive organisation, with an equally diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds including those with disabilities. We will never discriminate based on race, ethnicity, country of origin, gender (or gender expression or identity), sexual orientation, marital status, disability or age. If you are invited for an interview, please let us know if you have any accessibility requirements or adjustments so we can support you to attend.

Why join us? Make-A-Wish UK brings amazing people together to grant inspirational, life-changing wishes for children with critical conditions. We work with wish children, their families, and medical teams to make unforgettable wishes a reality – like a child getting to be a princess in their own castle, cooking with their favourite celebrity chef, and even becoming a Ghostbuster to save the city of Leeds!
Join our volunteering community now and make a lasting difference by donating your time to grant wishes – it’s honestly one of the most magical experiences you’ll ever have!
Why We Need Your Help We are granting a record number of wishes, providing families with a precious opportunity to rescue the magic of childhood as quickly as we can. But demand for wishes is far outpacing our best efforts to keep up, so it’s taking longer than ever to grant wishes to children and families who are facing some of their toughest and most relentless times together.
By volunteering, you have the power to make a wish come true for a critically ill child, allowing families to create lasting memories to treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.
What you will be doing With the demand for wishes being so high, we urgently need to generate vital support to help us to say yes to every eligible child, and that’s where you come in! Once our expert team of Wishgranters have designed a child’s magical wish, we need your time, skills, passion and energy to bring that wish to life and make it a reality!
We need Wish Makers across the UK to help us to:
- Research and reach out to local companies, telling them about the children that are waiting for their wishes right now in their region and asking them to donate their services and goods such as a limousine ride or a hotel stay so that a local child’s wish can come true.
- Rally and inspire your community to raise funds to help pay for the rising cost of wishes, meaning that more children can have their wishes granted in as short a timescale as possible, and they can be part of making that magic happen!
- Work as a team with your fellow local volunteers to organise fundraising events such as balls, school sports days, workplace fundraisers etc that will enable more children to have their magical wishes granted by raising vital funds
- Arrange and deliver special gifts in the run up to the wish to add to the excitement and anticipation for the child and their family, and support with the collection and delivery of local donations for the wish itself, which range from princess costumes to balloons!
- Identify local businesses, community groups and organisations who would be willing to support Make-A-Wish UK and help children waiting in your local region.
- Apply for local funding/Charity of the Year opportunities such as supermarket charity opportunities, local council Mayor’s charities etc that could help to grant more local wishes and be part of something special in your community
- Support our wish families on the day of the wish itself, ensuring everything goes smoothly and everyone involved has a magical experience
The skills you need It truly does take a community of people to grant a wish, and we are looking for special people who want to become part of building these communities around the children that are waiting right now for their wishes to be granted. If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you!
- Confident in approaching a wide range of different people, groups and organisations to ask for donations/support; in person, by phone and through email
- Warm, friendly and comfortable interacting with others to create the best experience possible, representing our wish children and their families to make communities feel part of our local mission
- Organised and able to think on their feet if needed; able to be pro-active to identify and develop opportunities in their local community
- Confident speaking about our mission in person and/or online and able to adapt to different audience needs
- A basic level of IT skills are essential for this role, and you will also need access to either a computer or smartphone/device
- A commitment to our behaviours and values, always with our wish families at the heart of all you do as a volunteer
What's in it for you We think that volunteering at Make-A-Wish UK is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have, as you get to make actual magical wishes come true! But if that’s not enough, here are a few more of the wonderful benefits of donating your time:
- You’ll get active in your local community with some of our other wonderful volunteers – both in person and online
- You’ll be helping local wish families by bringing a child’s unique wish to life through all stages of the wish journey.
- You’ll develop new skills and gain new experiences whilst building new relationships with a diverse range of like-minded wonderful people
- You’ll participate in an interactive and engaging learning and development programme, that fits in around you and your life
- We will help you to build emotional resilience, and increase your levels of wellbeing and self-esteem using our wellness platform and recognition programme
- You’ll have access our volunteer app where you can connect with both Make-A-Wish UK Employees and volunteers across the UK, stay up to date with the latest wishes being granted, sign up for events and activities and access handy resources and training documents
