Pump Aid is a dynamic, award winning and growing organisation, which is promoting a radically different approach to aid and development in the WASH sector by establishing Malawi’s first social impact business (Beyond Water) focused on delivering reliable access to clean water for rural communities. To support our mission we are recruiting a Communications and Fundraising Officer to help deliver on our ambitious growth plans to reach 2 million people by 2030. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated person with strong communication and interpersonal skills, who can plan and create compelling communications to increase awareness of our work and engage new and existing supporters. Furthermore, you will lead on key areas of our fundraising strategy including annual fundraising campaigns, individual giving and small trusts and foundations.

Roles and Responsibilities

• You will lead on defined elements of Pump Aid’s fundraising strategy: scoping, applications, reporting and management (to largely small to medium sized trusts and foundations, community funders and individuals.)
• You will develop and manage a schedule of compelling communications across a number of channels including social media, web and print that will grow engagement with Beyond Water’s mission.
• You will support the Head of Development to pitch to social impact and philanthropic investors by finding creative ways to differentiate ourselves from traditional approaches to international development.
• You will take responsibility for managing and administrating fundraising income, using Salesforce CRM to keep up to date records of donations, keeping donors updated through regular reports and leveraging annual campaigns including the Big Give Christmas Campaign to maximise individual giving donations.
• Maximise the value and duration of donor support through excellent stewardship and relationship management.
• While office hours are notionally 9:00am to 5:30pm, the demands of a business focussed on Africa, with donors in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia mean a degree of flexibility is required.

Candidate Profile

1. Strong experience in planning and executing communications plans across a variety of mediums (social media, website, blog posts, impact reports) to grow awareness and engagement with the work of our social enterprise

2. Demonstrable success in fundraising within the charity sector; scoping, prospecting, proposal writing and reporting.

3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to present to a variety of audiences

4. Experienced in home working and able to self-motivate and develop and execute personal work and action plans with limited face to face supervision

5. Demonstrable ability to prioritise and manage conflicting outcomes and objectives and ensure the right job is completed at the right time

6. Works well in a small, dynamic team

7. High level of computer literacy – Canva, Microsoft Office, Salesforce or similar CRM software

BACKGROUND

The External Communications Officer forms part of the Communications and Engagement Directorate, reporting into the Senior External Communications Manager. Given the growth of the Institute, the external communications officer would join a busy team in a vibrant and energetic communications and marketing department. The postholder manages a wide portfolio of projects, announcements and collaborations, working with stakeholders and partner organisation at the local, national and international level. The External Communications Officer will provide proactive comms planning and project management, media support, advice and expertise on matters relating to the Institute’s external communications.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We’re seeking a candidate with strong written & oral communication skills and demonstrable experience of collaborating with peers & technical experts to create engaging, insight driven communication plans. You should have strong knowledge of current communication industry trends and experience in working with the media in a press office or communications environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with liaising and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders and be able to work flexibly whilst managing a varied workload to tight deadlines.

DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

External communications

• Support priority Turing projects (such as our grand challenges) by being a key contact point for research teams, providing trusted advice and working with your colleagues in the wider comms and engagement directorate to create and deliver related communications plans
• Create content for the organisation’s social media and website
• Sourcing, writing or editing accurate and creative content such as newsletter articles, blogs, case studies, researcher spotlights or briefing documents
• Deputise for the Senior External Communications Manager where required

Media relations

• Monitor media coverage and prepare regular evaluation reports
• Coordinate media activities, arranging spokespeople for interviews, attending press conferences and preparing necessary briefings
• Advise senior staff members on written responses to the media, proofreading and rewriting statements as needed
• Ensure timely response to media enquiries, manage shared inbox and occasionally be on--call when required
• Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists and external partners
• Identify potential opportunities for media outreach, work with Institute partners and outside organisations to co-ordinate, write and disseminate press materials.

JOB PURPOSE
The Strategic and Commercial Partnerships Senior Manager is an exciting new role within Start Network. It will hold responsibility for creating a new function, co-creating a new strategy and growing a small team to drive (non-financial) strategic partnerships for the organisation. It will also explore the possibility of establishing a commercial partnerships function with the Business Development Director.

This role will lead one of our most exciting new areas of work. They will help Start Network manage current strategic partners (such as ARC who we partner with for insurance in Africa), but also establish connections with new potential partners globally (particularly in the areas of system change, digital, humanitarian insurance, AI, etc). These new partners will maximise the impact of our work, enhance our ability to influence system change or simply engage in the exchange of knowledge around our innovation ambition. The candidate will first build a clear understanding of all our strategic partnerships across the organisation; find ways with Heads/Managers of teams to maximise them (focusing on strategic impact and effective collaboration); and finally implement a plan to scope further partners globally in line with Start Network’s strategy and gaps. 

Our hope is that after 12 months we will have set up a new function which will nurture and maximise current strategic partners for the benefit of system change globally, as well as having a clear understanding of gaps for future partnerships. This role will then continue to look for new, high impact relationships globally that can support the internal operations of the organisation and our members and hubs and advance our strategic aims. Beyond this, they will have explored potential commercial partnerships for Start Network in the short to medium term.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing and managing successful partnerships globally, a strategic mindset, and the ability to think creatively to identify new opportunities. Further, it will require commercial experience, understanding of building social

Communications campaign development and management:

• Develop and project manage a programme of integrated communication campaigns that grab attention and encourage action across rewilding practice, policy and fundraising.
• Work closely with the Communications and Engagement team to develop aligned messaging and campaign assets and to deliver these across owned, earned and paid channels.

• Support the Catalyse, Influence and Fundraising teams with the communication requirements for events (e.g. Rewilding Network conferences, fundraising dinners, panel debates, report launches).

Cross-functional collaboration:

• Work closely with the Catalyse, Influence and Fundraising teams to integrate campaign efforts and identify the relevant campaign issues, priorities and opportunities for influencing policy, fundraising and Network membership growth.
• Support the broader Communications and Engagement team to implement strategically aligned locally focused communications activities, projects and events for England, Scotland or Wales.

Terms and conditions and staff benefits

The role is a full-time, 5-day-week (35 hours) position.

The salary is £38,000 - £43,000 per annum depending upon experience.

There will be some freedom for the person to determine their own working arrangements each week, within limitations, providing the work is delivered.

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will focus on increasing donations from individual supporters. About The Role

Kingston Bereavement Support (KBS) is the only bereavement service in Kingston Upon Thames. We are a registered provider to local GPs and an organisational member of the Childhood Bereavement Network. The Saying Goodbye Project (SGP) is our children and young people’s service. We help children, young people and families who are bereaved with 1:1 counselling support, advice and information. We have close and long-standing relationships with local schools, children's services and other professional and voluntary sector organisations throughout the Borough, which enables us to reach the most disadvantaged and vulnerable young people who can benefit from the support we offer. We are part of Kingston Children and Young People's Network, led by Kingston Voluntary Action. which looks at areas such as local statutory plans for children and young people, child safeguarding and best practice sharing. This provides excellent networking and partnership working opportunities with other local groups.

We are looking for a committed, passionate and qualified Counsellor or Psychotherapist to coordinate an age-appropriate bereavement counselling and support service for children and young people, in partnership with the KBS Lead Service Coordinator. As well as undertaking one-to-one clinical work, the successful candidate will work as part of small team to coordinate a professional, effective, and quality bereavement counselling and support service for children and young people who live, work or study or are registered with a GP in the borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Director at Declassified UK

Established in 2019, Declassified UK is a small, growing media organisation that has quickly become known for ground-breaking, critical journalism challenging the British establishment on UK foreign policy issues.

The UK’s traditional media is increasingly acting as part of the establishment, failing to report independently on Britain’s policies around the world. By contrast, Declassified is independent and beholden to no-one, relying on the public and trusts & foundations for our finances, and drawing on a distinguished board and group of advisers.

We are seeking to appoint a new Director to succeed our co-founder Mark Curtis who will consolidate our reputation and take the organisation to its next level.

We will continue producing high quality written and visual journalism and seek to increase our political impact and reach bigger audiences, within the budgetary and capacity constraints that we have.

This is a unique, exciting opportunity for a person who is an excellent people manager and team player, who is skilled at organisational development and who can give strong support to our expert staff and our communications, fundraising and editorial needs.

The successful candidate must have considerable experience of working in the media, campaigns and/or not for profit sectors and be dedicated to our principles and mission.

KEY WORK AREAS
Organisational oversight
● ensure all aspects of the organisation’s work - including communications, fundraising, social media and editorial - function optimally, within the budgetary and capacity constraints.
● monitor progress towards strategic goals, plans and budgets.

Organisational development and innovation
● lead the organisation’s drive to best promote its mission and principles.
● work with the head of communications to increase our outreach to new audiences and our political impact, through new digital marketing nd public fundraising approaches.

Team Management
● inspire and lead an effective, motivated remote team, with a common sense of purpose, clear goals and division of responsibility, transparency, accountability, and effective internal coordination and communication.
● promote new recruitment when finances and strategy allow.
● ensure the organisation promotes optimal working practices and personnel policies.
● conduct regular one-to-ones with staff to provide support and ensure success.

Finances
● oversee the organisation’s finances, ensuring Declassified deploys its resources optimally, maintains an adequate cash flow, expands its revenue, and ensures its financial sustainability.
● after a transition, to be agreed in discussions, the Director may assume direct responsibility for administrating our finances, including paying staff and suppliers, doing quarterly and yearly accounts, recording invoices, and liaising with our accountants. This is presently done by other staff.

Fundraising
● work with relevant staff to drive trusts & foundations and public fundraising, helping to innovate our approaches towards existing and new public audiences.
● after a transition, to be agreed in discussions, the Director may assume direct responsibility for managing existing trusts & foundations  and large personal funders, producing grant and budget reports and proposals, and seeking out new funders. This is presently done by other staff.

Communications
● work with relevant staff to maximise Declassified’s profile, for example by ensuring the optimisation of our website, newsletters and  communications with supporters and non-supporters.
● work with relevant staff to produce our annual reports.
● field email queries from the public and external organisations.

Board and Advisers
● work with the Board to ensure Declassified’s governance structure best promotes its mission and principles.
● communicate clearly to the Board, delivering regular financial and strategy updates as per regular arranged meetings.
● maximise the contributions of Declassified’s Advisers to promote the organisation's mission.

Representation
● represent Declassified in external meetings and events, acting as an ambassador for the organisation’s mission and principles.
● promote Declassified to other like-minded organisations and individuals, developing contacts or partnerships such as with campaign groups, other journalists and MPs.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
Candidates should have several years experience working in media, campaigns or not-for profit organisations or similar, in several of the following areas:

● people management, including knowledge of human resources issues
● promoting organisational development and innovation
● working as a senior journalist or other media professional
● digital marketing, communications and use of social media
● managing budgets and finances
● working on UK foreign policy issues
● media and libel law
● fundraising towards the public and trusts & foundations

REPORTING LINES
● the Director is accountable to the Board
● the Director will manage five staff: chief columnist, editor, head of communications, head of investigations and staff reporter

WORKING CONDITIONS
● All Declassified staff work from their home offices, with the opportunity of using a communal office in London subject to availability.
● We operate a four day working week, from Monday-Thursday.
● Salary of £65,000.
● We operate a pension scheme and flexible and generous terms and conditions for holiday allowance, compassionate leave, paternity/maternity leave etc, otherwise standard terms and conditions for work contracts, including a three months probationary period.
● The person must have the right to live and work in the UK.

A new Labour Government has been elected with a mandate to deliver key policies to improve the UK’s environment and climate – from transitioning our energy system to one based on renewables and improving the energy efficiency of our homes and business; to improving our biodiversity and protecting our nature; cleaning up our rivers and beaches, and making our farming more sustainable. 

Labour’s Environment Campaign – SERA is the Labour Party’s affiliated environment campaign. We helped to provide the evidence and political will to develop many of these policies in Opposition and campaigned to elect a record number of Labour MPs to help deliver these policies in Government. Supporting environment and climate policies for the Welsh and Scottish Labour Parties ahead of the 2026 elections in each nation is also a key priority for us. 

We are a membership organisation, and the Labour Party members who subscribe to Labour’s Environment Campaign - SERA are our backbone. We also work with Labour politicians at all levels, trade unions, other Labour Socialist Society affiliates, NGOs, think tanks, and civil society organisations.

We are looking for someone with the experience to lead Labour’s Environment Campaign - SERA through its next phase of development, cementing its influence within the Labour movement on climate and nature matters. 

The successful candidate will have:

Essential

• Commitment to the policies, values, principles and objectives of the Labour Party and the wider labour movement, particularly trade unions and Socialist Societies, and to environmental and social justice.

• Experience of leading or senior management in an advocacy, campaigning or policy organisation

• Demonstrable knowledge of the political conditions in which the organisation operates, and a high level of political judgement.

• Excellent networking, advocacy and influencing skills.

• Experience in fundraising, income generation and financial management.

• Experience in staff management and leadership and the ability to enthuse and motivate. 

• Strong communication skills including the ability to represent the organisation effectively in public forums and the media.

Desirable

• A strong knowledge and understanding of current political and public policy issues and debates around climate and the environment.

• Understanding of the Labour Party and the labour movement and relationships with key figures within both.

• Ability to build excellent relationships with the environmental sector,  business and the media.

• Understanding and knowledge of the administrative, financial and legislative requirements of managing a political organisation.

• Experience working in a membership organisation.
