About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager (Business Development) to join the Barbican’s Development department to lead on developing and securing exciting new partnerships with companies to support the Barbican’s arts, learning and community programmes. The Corporate Partnerships Team fundraises across all the Barbican’s art forms, through corporate membership and sponsorship, recruiting and retaining a strong and loyal corporate supporter base of exciting companies including; Mastercard, Apple TV, Searchlight Pictures, Campari, Vestiaire Collective, Bank of America and Sotheby’s.

The Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager (Business Development) will lead on all business development activity for the Corporate Partners team. Working with the Head of Corporate Partnerships and colleagues across the Centre they will devise the Corporate Partnerships business development strategy, developing new high value opportunities for Corporate Partnerships to deliver against team income targets. They will oversee the business development target, managing their own prospect pipeline as well as that of the wider Corporate Partnerships team.

The Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager will play a leadership role in the Department, deputising for the Head of Corporate Partnerships as required and acting as a mentor and coach to the Corporate Partnerships Manager and Officer, directing and supervising new approaches and approving proposals.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to looking to build on their business development and leadership skills. This is particularly exciting time to join the Barbican, with a new Director for Arts and Participation recently in post as well as other new key senior leadership positions, and the Barbican Renewal capital campaign beginning in 2025. CJC is a broad coalition of NGOs, trade unions and law firms, encompassing a range of political and thematic priorities, from workers’ rights and modern slavery, to climate and the environment, global justice and the rights of women and girls, children and indigenous peoples. But what brings us together is a shared commitment to ending corporate impunity for human rights abuses and environmental destruction: in line with this, collaborative work for change alongside our partners is at the heart of all we do.

We’re at a crucial point in a campaign which spans advocacy, public communications and engagement with businesses, and seeks to ensure the implementation of a ‘Business, Human Rights and Environment Act’ in the UK. This legislation would help end corporate abuses of human rights and the environment, and make it easier for victims to access justice. At an exciting juncture for the campaign, the successful applicant will play a central role in shaping it and driving it forward, working alongside our civil society partners to do so.

What we’re looking for

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a real commitment to campaign for change on corporate accountability for human rights abuses.  You’ll be enthusiastic and full of ideas, able to juggle multiple deadlines and tasks, while being ready to show initiative and take ownership of your area of work. 

You don’t need to be a policy expert on our issues, but you’ll need to have the ability to rapidly gain an understanding of what we work on and why, and advocate for these issues to Parliamentarians and civil servants.

Facilitating joint work alongside our coalition partners is fundamental to everything we do, so we’re looking for someone who already has experience of working in coalitions or in the not-for-profit sector - whether in the UK charity sector or elsewhere - and who will be at ease regularly communicating with other organisations and facilitating meetings which can have multiple organisations in attendance. We need someone who recognises and understands the value of civil society groups collaborating effectively, and is good communicator comfortable working with stakeholders at multiple levels.

You will update and ensure the delivery of the advocacy strategy for the campaign, leading regular calls with coalition partners, so it’s crucial that you’re comfortable with and enjoy collaborative work with others. You’ll drive forward our engagement with policy makers, thinking up strategies for engagement and potential approaches. You will be supported by a team and engaged Board, as well as coalition partners, but will be encouraged to take ownership of your areas of work and develop proposals for action.

We are looking for someone with experience of conducting research who can work within our research team and alongside our modelling team.  The candidate would be expected to conduct qualitative research, write briefings and reports, and present findings to stakeholders.  They would be supported by the Head of Policy Research and the Deputy Director of the PPI. 

The Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) is an educational research institute established to help improve later life outcomes. We are independent and an expert across all elements of the UK pension system. We contribute facts, analysis and commentary to help stakeholders, decision-makers and law-makers take informed policy positions and decisions on pensions and retirement income provision.

Ideally the appointment would run from December 2024 to November 2025.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the management and timely delivery of PPI research projects
• Manage multiple external and internal stakeholders including project sponsors
• Conduct literature reviews and desk-based research
• Analyse and interpret data from a policy perspective and develop conclusions from analysis
• Work closely with the PPI modelling team to determine methodology for the production of data and projections
• Draft PPI reports
• Present on a variety of retirement and pensions topics (internally and externally)
• Participate in discussion groups and seminars on pensions policy issues
• Generate ideas for new areas of research and get involved in developing and securing new PPI research projects if possible/appropriate
• Manage competing deadlines and priorities
• Work closely with other members of the PPI

Essential skills:

• A working knowledge of the UK pension system, or the ability to acquire knowledge quickly and / or work experience in social policy research;
• Proven high quality research skills, including desk and internet research and the ability to lead research projects in a pro-active way;
• Proven ability to interpret statistics and modelling results;
• Excellent report-writing and data presentation skills, drafting for public, or non-technical, readers in plain English;
• Good organisational and time management skills;
• Good interpersonal skills and demonstrable team player qualities.
• Experience of presenting research findings in seminars or conferences.

Location

We are a hybrid organisation and operate a remote working policy which means staff spend some time working in the office and some time working remotely. It is important that the successful candidate builds strong relationships across the team as a whole and with our stakeholders.  As most of our audiences and sponsors are mainly based in London, there will be a strong case for the successful candidate being London based, or able to come to London as frequently as required. We therefore anticipate that the normal place of work will be at the PPI office in Central London.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

In consultation and verified compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements of PETA, PETA France, PETA US, and PETA Science Consortium International e.V, the successful candidate will undertake the following:

​

• Independently research and interpret a variety of scientific, political, policy-driven, and other issues related to animal testing in order to further PETA’s goals

• Build networks and coordinate meetings with key policymakers and other stakeholders
• Write factsheets, white papers, reports, correspondence, and other literature
• Build relationships and maintain communication with key audiences, particularly decision-makers in the legislative and administrative arenas
• Lead meetings with parliamentarians, companies, and legislators and present at conferences
• Develop expertise in non-animal testing methods and draw upon the expertise of others
• Respond to correspondence regarding issues related to animal testing
• Conduct analyses of technical papers and legislation and translate scientific and legal terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
• Identify opportunities to provide public comments that promote non-animal testing approaches and lead the writing and presentation of these comments
• Represent PETA at public-speaking engagements, in debates, to the media, and to the general public
• Communicate PETA’s philosophy to the public
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

• Degree in a related field – a master’s and/or PhD is preferred
• Experience working at a relevant organisation or institute, such as an animal protection organisation, the civil service, a regulatory agency, or a biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, or medical device company, is desirable
• Demonstrable experience of the functioning of Parliament
• Familiarity with the use of animals in laboratories, associated legislation, and alternatives to animal testing
• Proven ability to maintain awareness of relevant political, social, and economic developments
• Proven ability to brief colleagues and other relevant stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research
• Proven excellent writing and research skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
