Scope of role

The Head of Programme & Organisational Development is also one of two Co-Leads of On Purpose London. As such, they are jointly responsible for the London Associate Programme in partnership with the Co-Lead of On Purpose London who focuses on  Business Development & Community. We find this co-leadership model offers a useful balance of mutual support and challenge, role-modelling how we believe leadership should operate.

You would be part of our cross-organisational leadership team of six city leads and the CEO. This group is a source of valuable peer support and a forum in which to collaborate, coordinate and learn together, through which you will contribute to strategy and organisational development and lead and support specific cross-city improvement initiatives.

Whilst this role focuses on the On Purpose London programme delivery and organisational development, it is a collaborative role with shared responsibility for all of the London team and operations. 

This role has the following primary responsibilities, which can be reviewed and shaped around the strengths of the successful candidate: 

• Motivate and empower the London team and foster a healthy team culture - Set vision and strategy for On Purpose London alongside the co-lead and in collaboration with the International CEO and other Cities. Work together to shape a strong team culture which supports self development, collaboration, appreciation and trust. Work with the international team, the co-leads of other Cities and the board to share and develop best practice and the organisation’s direction.

• Ensure the health and sustainability of an impactful London Associate Programme - Work together with other City Leads and the international team to monitor, measure and improve the programme’s financial sustainability and impact, with a focus on overseeing London’s finances.

• Improve ways of working to enable the team to embrace change and innovation - Develop and implement processes, practices, systems, and techniques to help strengthen performance and streamline operations. Foster a team culture which values flexibility, continuous learning, and openness to new ideas. 

• Support the development of Associates into impactful systems change leaders - Responsible for the overall quality of the Associate journey, envisioning and improving the Associate experience, and managing key moments including matching, induction and residential. Support Programme Delivery Manager in designing, planning and facilitating the training syllabus.

• Build engagement with our wider ecosystem of trainers, mentors & coaches - Ensure the recruitment, onboarding, matching and ongoing management of coaches and mentors throughout the year to support Associates’ growth and development.

• Lead the recruitment of high-calibre Associates from a diverse range of backgrounds - Oversee a rigorous assessment and selection process including scoring applications, training interviewers, interviewing candidates and managing the pipeline of potential candidates before and after offers.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Operations (HOO) plays a vital role in the development and delivery of Cockpit’s strategic plan, working closely with the Chief Executive. The HOO will ensure operational excellence, site optimisation in Bloomsbury and Deptford and lead on property strategy. The role encompasses oversight of the maker community, management of IT systems, leading on HR and responsibility for health and safety compliance.

This role would suit an entrepreneurial self-starter with demonstrable experience in property and building management, project management, budget and fiscal control, HR and team management. Knowledge of planning, business and charity financing, leasehold and landlord-tenant legislation is desirable.  The role requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to exert influence and maintain critical relationships. It requires a keen focus on delivery and detail as well as the ability to retain big picture perspectives.  Exemplary communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. 

MAIN DUTIES: 

1 PROPERTY AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT 

Cockpit has two sites in Deptford and Bloomsbury. At each site, a Studio Manager has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the sites and liaison with makers.  The Studio Managers will report to the HOO who will coordinate, plan and/or oversee all the practical management of the buildings including repairs and maintenance; alterations and refurbishments; space allocations and use of space; health and safety; tenant/maker welfare/support etc. 

The HOO will manage the Studio complexes to ensure they meet the requirements of the charity and resident makers while ensuring commercial optimisation.

The HOO will ensure efficient use of space and consider charitable and commercial objectives when setting prices and rates to ensure a balanced outcome.  The HOO is responsible for ensuring compliance on all aspects of Health and Safety, insurance and risk assessment. 

The HOO is responsible for project managing all future real estate projects from inception to completion. They will ensure that sufficient resources, budgets and expertise are in place for such projects. The HOO will sit on Cockpit’s Property Committee. 

2 LEASES, INSURANCE, LEGAL, RATES AND LA 

With oversight from the CEO and Board, and relevant legal advice, the HOO will manage leasehold negotiations with Cockpit’s landlord, Camden Council.  The HOO will report on such matters to the Property committee of the Board.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage licences issued to studio holders developing pricing structures and documentation that reflect Cockpits charitable aims and commercial objectives. 

Working with the CEO, the HOO will set hire rates, rentals and other pricing related to Cockpits spaces and services in line with Cockpit’s charitable aims and commercial objectives. They will be responsible for issuing associated contracts and licences. 

The HOO will oversee all insurance requirements and ensure that terms required are met.  The HOO will oversee legal compliance issues in collaboration with the CEO and as directed. 

The HOO will maintain good relationships with Local Authorities and be responsible for monitoring and overseeing all rates or other levies in relation to the buildings or the charity itself. 

3 COMMERCIAL EVOLUTION AND PROJECTS  

The HOO will take an active leadership role in developing and delivering commercial opportunities for the charity in line with its charitable objectives and the strategic plan.  The HOO will lead on the strategy for development of space and venue hire, tours, better utilisation of space, and AV studio hire. The HOO will evaluate commercial opportunities/risks and will manage the delivery and ultimate running of such spaces. 

The HOO will also oversee the successful delivery and oversight of the cafe operator in Deptford.

4 LIVE EVENTS  

The HOO will actively contribute to the creative development of Cockpit events, including but not limited to Open Studios. They will be responsible for the operational planning and timely delivery of the events including budget management. The Event Manager and Events Coordinator will report into the HOO on all relevant events.

The HOO will be responsible for ensuring there is clear post event reporting from all departments, and that this is tracked year on year to ensure it informs future strategy, budgets and investment.

5 YOUTH AND COMMUNITY 

Working with the CEO, HOO is responsible for overseeing Cockpit’s Youth and Community activities. They will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the producer, as well as overseeing budgets. The HOO will oversee the programming of any Youth & Community activities across the year and ensure these are aligned to the charities objectives and are properly funded. They will work closely with the Head of Development and Youth and Community Producer to ensure Cockpit targets the correct funding bids and works with the correct partners to deliver impactful programmes in a cost-effective manner. 

6 IT and DATA MANAGEMENT 

The HOO is responsible for managing Cockpit’s external IT consultant to ensure that all hardware and software bought and used by the charity is up-to-date, efficient, cost effective, secure and suitable for the charity’s activities. 

The HOO is responsible for overseeing all software and digital upgrades including but not limited to the charity’s CRM, cloud-based services and future automation.

7 DATA AND GDPR 

The HOO will play a central role in the planning and correct implementation of any data programme for Cockpit. This will be in close collaboration with the Head of Marketing and Digital and the CEO.

The HOO is responsible for GDPR for Cockpit and will take on responsibility for compliance and other copyright or legal practices in relation to safe data management, firewall implementation, working closely with the Head of Marketing and Digital on these matters.

8 COMPLIANCE, RISK REGISTER, HANDBOOKS, HR 

The HOO has line management responsibility for the Deptford and Bloomsbury Studio Managers, Events and Venue Coordinator, Event Manager, Youth and Community Producer and overall responsibility for Cockpit’s HR function. 

The HOO will take responsibility for ensuring compliant staff practices in relation to up-to-date staff contracts, health and safety, maternity and all other relevant HR matters.  In association with the CEO and Financial Controller, the HOO will manage and record annual leave. 

The HOO will work with the Studio Managers to ensure good Maker welfare and be responsible for policies that result in positive outcomes in relation to the Cockpit community. 
 

The HOO will liaise with the CEO and advise on risks in the HR area and will sit on the People Committee of Cockpit.

The HOO will evaluate when HR risk requires external advice and will agree any necessary actions with CEO. 

The HOO will be responsible for the Staff Handbook, The Trustee Handbook, Maker Welcome Pack/Handbooks and all relevant compliance materials for updating and circulation, including all company policies.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage the Risk Register and update the Board in a timely manner on any pertinent and impending changes to that with the potential to impact the charity. The HOO will be a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARCo) of Cockpit.

The HOO will take on responsibility for recruitment practices and onboarding activities for new employees, contractors and trustees. 

The HOO will oversee the performance review process, coordinate staff training and be responsible for the training budget. 

9 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION 

In conjunction with the CEO, the HOO will oversee and implement policies that foster and reflect the charity’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.  This may include managing new and existing initiatives, updating policies and undertaking formal reviews.  The HOO will champion Cockpit’s diversity objectives at the Board’s People Committee (PeCo). 

10 COMMITTEES AND BOARD 

The HOO will provide a support role to the CEO on preparation of Board papers and reports.  The HOO will coordinate committee meeting dates and circulate them to the members appropriately, with administrative support.  The HOO will oversee the minutes for all meetings, working with an external minute taker. The HOO may maintain activity lists and will work with the CEO and the Board of Trustees to ensure exceptional Governance.

11 CEO DEPUTISATION  

The HOO will support the CEO as needed and may, on occasion, be asked to provide support to the Board of Trustees and the Chair.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide high-level general administration for the Quality and Standards team who is responsible for raising standards through the learning lab educator platform, using benchmarking resource products, to empower young people and champion future skills.

Key tasks and responsibilities
1. Administrative support to raise standards - Learning Lab:
• Support the engagement plan activities for educators to use the online learning platform and to access educational benchmarked resources.
• To aid the Digital Skills Development Manager to support the creation of editorial and marketing scripts.

• To assist the Quality and Standards Manager to develop teaching tools for educators in colleges and training providers.

3. Support to champion future skills – Competition portfolio reviews and audit:

The Development and Advocacy Department are looking for a Philanthropy Coordinator to join the team. This is a growth role which is testament to the dynamism in our philanthropic endeavours and the continued need to supplement our income through the relationships with our supporters. This is a pivotal role within the team, and you will be able to learn about the full range of activities undertaken by the Philanthropy Managers. You will have a varied workload including correspondence, meticulous diary management, planning for and issuing invitations to events, following up on arrangements and assisting at fundraising events. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled administrator who is looking to grow and develop their career in a sector leading Philanthropy Team.

This role will suit a candidate who is a strong team player, happy to pitch in and support with a variety of tasks as required. You will be able to work both independently and as part of the wider team, showing initiative but also taking direction. You will be a confident communicator who can deal with people at all levels.

The Head of Counselling has overall responsibility for the smooth running of the clinical services, the recruitment of suitable counsellors, supervisors, and Strides HCC team to ensure the maintenance of high standards of service delivery. 

The role is an integral part of Strides, working with the CEO and other Heads of services to support the continuous development and delivery of services in line with Strides’ strategy. 

The main purpose of the role is to provide effective management and leadership of Strides HCC. The role focuses on the strategic development of the project, the financial management and financial sustainability of its operations, and the overseeing of all aspects of the clinical service delivery and clinical governance. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be accountable for all aspects of clinical governance in the service, reporting back to the CEO as required.

• Organise and chair the steering group meetings, review minutes and report back on actions and progress.

• Responsible for ensuring service(s) meet contractual, funding and legal obligations as applicable.

• Conduct regular management / quality audits and provide management reports on performance.

• Contribute to organisational policy and procedure development.

• Produce and revise service-specific policies, and oversee their implementation across the HCC service.

• Accountable for ensuring robust information management is in place; supporting the continuous Strides' information management systems and utilising management information reporting to assist management oversight of performance and to inform service developments.

• Alongside facilities management and service manager to proactively ensure that all key elements of effective health 

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

• Develop and embed deliverable annual plans for each service. Work with and support the other Heads of services      and safety management are in place for all services, including delegating specific duties as appropriate in each service and the SLT in promoting the work of Strides.

• To sustain existing and develop new business for HCC by raising the profile of HCC and by identifying, engaging,      and  building relationships with new clients and other mental health services.

• Develop professional networks and partnerships with a range of key stakeholders to aid service development.

• Anticipate and develop strategies to resolve service challenges or risks involving appropriate colleagues.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

• To set an annual operational budget for each service in conjunction with service managers, finance team and senior  management.

• Act as budget holder for designated area, responsible for monitoring and controlling assigned budget, taking              corrective action where appropriate, and reporting as required.

• Work with service managers to ensure all financial and administrative processes are delivered to a high standard      within policies and procedures.

• To identify possible sources of income, working with fundraising colleagues on sourcing funding for service                development.

SAFEGUARDING

• Be responsible and accountable for ensuring HCC fully embeds excellent safeguarding practice and are fully aware  of organisational safeguarding policies and procedures.

• Act as key source of support, advice, and expertise for safeguarding for the service.

• Together with the Clinical Manager act as points of contact for counsellors and supervisors in case of urgent clinical  questions/issues. 

PEOPLE LEADERSHIP

• Create clear vision and objectives for service(s) under your leadership; empowering, motivating people to be fully      engaged and participate in the work and provide high standard clinical service.

• Through line management responsibilities, develop accountable service managers with clear expectations and          objectives, ensuring learning needs are assessed and met.

• To have regular, clear communication with direct reports and facilitate a ‘feedback loop’ to ensure your teams are fully  informed of organisational decision making and updates and team members are provided mechanisms to feed into organisational developments. 

• To ensure that staff operate at the level of competency specified for their posts; to coach, support and develop staff to enhance their levels of competency and to take effective steps to address underperformance.

• To work with service managers and HR team to ensure the best possible management of team members, ensuring    all matters are managed in line with Strides policies and procedures.

• Line manage the Service Manager and the Clinical Manager, and the Clinical Supervisors.

• Monitor and support the work of Supervisors & organise and chair quarterly supervisors’ meetings.

• Together with the Clinical Manager, organise an annual seminar program for HCC Counsellors and Assessors.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To contribute to Strides’ overall strategy and business plan.

• To work collaboratively and contribute to positive working relationships with team colleagues, wider Strides                colleagues and volunteers and to participate in reflective practice.

• To fully engage with and represent the area of responsibility as required in the system of organisational management and Board of Trustee meetings and Strides events.

JOB PURPOSE

As an International Board Coordinator, you will provide high-level advice, guidance, and support to the International Board and coordinate effective communication to and from the board.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a Coordinator who has a high level of professional discretion, political awareness, and diplomacy around governance and executive management. The candidate will have demonstrated initiative, proactive problem solving, and information sharing to ensure principles of good governance are adhered to.

The successful candidate will have sufficient experience managing budgets and working with financial transactions in multiple currencies. This involves reporting accurate detail on budgets to the senior leaders of the organisation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

-To support the Chair with the papers and future strategic discussion items including liaising with those members of staff preparing papers for forthcoming meetings. Ensure that all Board and relevant sub-committee papers address the issues arising and are of appropriate quality; ensuring meeting procedures are followed and provide appropriate strategic level of Board reports, ensuring that accurate records of Board decisions are kept and disseminated as required.

-Advising the Board, the Coalition Leadership Team, Amnesty International Secretariat teams and other Amnesty International governing bodies directly on matters relating to the board's work plans and those of several of the Board's sub-committees. This will include approval schedules in the organisational cycle, maintenance of the register of interest, power of attorneys.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

-The ability to work closely with, advise and brief senior management and to work to tight timelines.

-Training and formal education around legal matters affecting Trustee Boards either at university level or from specialist training providers.

-Extensive knowledge concerning legal and fiduciary requirements for Trustee Boards in the UK.

-Highly proficient administration skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and AI systems. High level of logistical and event organising skills.

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. Purpose of the Public Affairs Officer role: 

As the Public Affairs Officer in the External Affairs team at Women’s Aid, you will play a pivotal role in our government and parliamentary engagement work. This will include leading on monitoring parliamentary activity and identifying opportunities for Women’s Aid to influence the political agenda and ensure parliamentarians are kept up to date on issues related to domestic abuse. You will play a pivotal role in supporting our influencing work with the new government on key pieces of legislation, Women’s Aid’s next big campaign and assisting Women’s Aid’s secretariat role to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Domestic Violence and Abuse. Alongside organising meetings and events for the APPG and with key political stakeholders, you will lead on the development of public affairs and campaigns materials, including policy bulletins, briefings, speaking notes and letters to government ministers.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Public Affairs Officer:

• Carry out regular political monitoring, keeping the team updated with important developments for Women’s Aid, identifying opportunities for influence and providing analysis on policy announcements.
• Draft newsletters, correspondence, and website and social media content for parliamentarians, Women’s Aid’s member services and campaigners on a range of campaign and policy priorities.
• Support Women’s Aid’s work on key pieces of legislation - responding to queries, drafting briefings and parliamentary questions, working with Parliamentarians on draft amendments, and the development of joint sector work.
• Lead on projects that widen participation in Women’s Aid public affairs and campaigning work, including organising meetings with sector colleagues, survivors, and our member services.

Job Summary

We expect this role to focus on developing and maintaining relationships with key funders, stakeholders, institutions and individuals. It will undertake work to secure funding, resources and partnerships for both Shared Assets and the wider land justice movement, and to raise the profile and reputation of Shared Assets.

The role will have responsibility for securing core funding for Shared Assets from trusts, foundations and high net worth individuals, and for supporting colleagues to secure grant and commercial funding for consultancy, research, movement building and communications projects. It will have responsibility for reporting on core grants and providing quality control for colleagues for their bids, tenders and funder reports. As part of this work the role will play a key part in providing intelligence and foresight to contribute to the organisation’s strategy and business planning. 

Beyond securing consistent core funding for Shared Assets the role will also work with funders and others to secure longer term resourcing of the wider land movement in order to deliver our collective ambitions for a just and sustainable land system. 

As part of a self managing organisation all team members are expected to contribute to the day to day management of the organisation through participation in management circles, team days and working groups.

Main Responsibilities

Fundraising and resourcing

• Develop and maintain relationships with funders to fund work that seeks to support common good land use and to create a more just and sustainable land system. 

• Work with the team to ensure we maintain a healthy pipeline of bids and tenders in order to meet income generation targets across the organisation. 

• Work with the wider land justice movement and funders to secure significant, consistent and long term resourcing for the wider land movement, working in ways that are open and transparent to, and inclusive of, the wider movement and which will help to deliver systemic change that meets our collective objectives for a more just and sustainable land system. 

Stakeholder relationships

• Develop and maintain relationships with key partner organisations in order to build an understanding of the wider context and system in which we are working in order to inform our strategic development and to identify opportunities for future partnership working. To understand where Shared Assets is valued and effective, and where it may need to adapt and change.

General

• Participate in the Funding & Finance circle, participate in relevant work groups and liaise with other circles where appropriate. 

• Contribute to communications and raise the profile of the organisation - in particular working closely with the Communications Coordinator on external messaging with respect to Shared Assets and the wider land movement.

• Provide reports and information for the board as required.

• Provide support to colleagues where needed, including in the running of events, training and other activities.

• Participate in and contribute to the development of Shared Assets as an organisation, including involvement in collective decision making, being accountable to policies, and helping improve those policies where relevant.

CISV International is looking for someone with strong professional experience in safeguarding, child protection or incident management and a background in investigation and case management to join us as an Interim Safeguarding Support Officer for our main programme season running from June to September 2024.

The role will focuses on supporting child-related safeguarding cases and completing investigations during our busiest season of international, camp-based programmes for young people.
