Your New Role
As a Management Accountant, you will support the fundraising team, including team leaders, managers, and the Director, with budgeting and forecasting. Your key responsibilities will include providing financial analysis, budget support, and financial planning. You will prepare management accounts, conduct variance analysis, and assist with the annual budget process. Additionally, you will monitor actual performance against budget, forecast for the year, and prepare journal adjustments, month-end accruals, and prepayments.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Significant experience in Management Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proficiency in the month-end process.
- Experience in preparing and posting journal entries (standard journals, accruals).
- Strong ability to communicate with and present information to senior management and provide advice to non-financial budget holders.
- Ideally, you are a qualified accountant or very close to qualification.

Key Responsibilities:
- Execute appropriate financial controls and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of quarterly and annual statutory accounts for group entities, supported by detailed schedules.

- Support continuous performance improvements across the financial accounting and control function.
- Maintain accurate and detailed financial data using Excel and in-house systems.
- Collaborate with finance business partners and heads of services to ensure timely and accurate delivery of monthly control account reconciliations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- CCAB-recognised accounting qualification qualified or part qualified (ACA qualified is desired).
- Extensive experience in preparing regulatory financial returns and managing filings with FVA and Companies House.
- Proven track record in managing interim and year-end audits, with effective coordination with auditors.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse complex data, develop solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Experience influencing operational activities at both tactical and strategic levels.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with D365 and Power BI is desired.

Populo Living is a development and housing company wholly owned by a single shareholder, Newham Council. The role of Head of Finance – Treasury and Financial Planning will lead, manage and co-ordinate the provision of the Groups Financial Planning, Treasury Management Services and Management Accounting functions as well as assist the Finance Director to lead and manage the Finance team.
The role:
- Lead, manage and motivate a team of four with two direct reports.
- Lead on all treasury related matters for the group such as arranging new funding, loan compliance, cashflow and banking.
- Lead on the organisation’s annual financial plan, including extensive sensitivity analysis of key performance indicators.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the strategic direction of a housing association that provides a vital service to the communities of Islington, Hackney and Waltham Forest. You will be a proficient Excel user. Experience of using Power BI will be an advantage, but is not essential.
