The role of Management Accountant is to provide high quality support to the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis in the annual budget setting process, whilst being responsible for the monthly management accounts, including production, analysis, reporting and communication.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain the full analysis, with all appropriate backup, of the current organisational budget: pay, non-pay, income and capital; ensuring that all documentation is fully backed up.
- Ensure complete transparency with budget holders of all components and assumptions inherent in the budget.
- As directed by the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, input any agreed changes to the budgets, in full liaison with budget holders.
- For each annual budget, liaise with budget holders to agree monthly phasing assumptions. These will be fixed at the beginning of the financial year, unless authorised by the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis.
- Prepare and deliver accurate, timely management information and financial reports to support strategic decision-making and operational performance monitoring.
- On a monthly basis, prepare the management accounts for the organisation. For presentation to the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, ensure arithmetic accuracy, full reconciliation to the general ledger, analysis of all material variances and identification of underlying trends.
- Once the management accounts have been approved, liaise with budget holders to effectively communicate their monthly results, and provide sound guidance and advice on effective budget management and forecasting of future spend.

THE ROLE:
We are seeking a Finance and Operations Manager to lead and strengthen our financial and operational functions as we continue to grow. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage financial and operational systems, processes, administration, and internal controls.

The Role
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a key supporting role in the financial health of The Royal Parks.

We work nationally to raise PSHE education standards for all children including in partnership with a range of leading charities, government bodies, corporates and other partners. Working in close collaboration with our two Directorates, this role will require the post-holder to lead on and manage new bids, tenders and proposals, and to support the ongoing project management of successful contracts and grants. The Business Manager will also play a key role in supporting the Training and Events Team and Subject Specialist team in developing a new on-demand training offer via our Learning Management System (LMS).
The post is offered on a full time (32 hours per week), permanent basis with a six-month probationary period. The PSHE Association is a shorter working week employer meaning that employees work a nine-day fortnight with every second Friday off.
Purpose
- To lead the efficient and effective running of the PSHE Association’s business and workstreams, including leading and supporting the Directorates in the delivery of our services
- To oversee the pipeline and financial functions, working closely with our accountants and office manager
- To lead the development of submissions for bids/tenders and proposals for clients, and provide project management support for roll-out and delivery of successful bids
- To work with the senior leadership team to develop new services in priority growth areas, undertake market research, and support implementation of new services
- To oversee the operations of our training and events offer, including leading and supporting the operations team to fulfil its duties in these areas and ensure successful integration of any new or improved systems and processes
- To implement and maintain systems and processes that optimise efficiency across the organisation
- To work with the senior leadership team on ensuring a strategic approach to business and operations that optimises our ability to serve and grow our membership and member services
Required experience
We expect applicants to demonstrate relevant experience in the following areas:
- Business management or a similar role in a charity, membership body, or a relevant sector (e.g. education, health, services for children and young people)
- Managing budgets, business pipelines, performance measures, and financial reporting on income and expenditure
- Drafting bids, tenders or funding applications
- Managing contracts and/or grants from drafting through to ongoing project management, completion and evaluation

Financial Accountant – Process & System Improvement

Exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a world renowned international humanitarian charity during a time of growth and expansion. The successful individual will play a central role in helping the organisation be more effective and efficient. You will work towards these ambitions through developing and implementing changes to finance processes and systems. This will be achieved by leading on a portfolio of improvement projects. In addition, the role-holder will use their skills in Excel, accounting software and reporting to provide ad hoc support to the finance team by identifying and implementing iterative improvements to finance processes and systems where needed.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Design of an effective and sustainable process for a purchase to pay procedure, which includes the payments of expenses and credit cards (seeking significant improvements to current procedures).
- Developing a business case for possible new systems which may be required to deliver new procedures.
- Working with the fundraising team to improve the flow of data between the fundraising database and finance system, including ensuring the coding structure is fit for purpose.
- Commission a review of tax and residency compliance for payrolled staff by working with HR and extemal advisors.
- Assist with embedding knowledge of new processes with relevant non-finance teams / colleagues in relation to key taxation compliance areas, especially relating to fundraising and HR activities.
- Documentation of Finance procedures, as well as the communication, implementation and embedding of policies and processes within finance and the wider office.
- Provide support from the finance function to the fundraising team during the fundraising team's project to introduce a legacy administration database and associated processes.
Who are we looking for?
- A formally qualified Accountant
- Exposure with designing and implementing process change and improvements.
- Familiarity with software implementation (preferably purchase to pay software).
