The Area Manager will support a passionate and committed retail team to deliver profit, promote fundraising and support eye health and public awareness. Role Responsibilities:

Strategy, planning and growth

· Track progress against plans and budgets, and support shop teams to adapt, phase and prioritise work where appropriate.

· Ensure that broad and long-term thinking is brought to decision making and avoid reactionary behaviour, whilst capitalising on arising opportunities.

· Support the delivery of a five-year Retail Strategy (2024 – 2028), to include:

o The professionalisation of our systems and processes to capitalise on all income opportunities.

o Putting a positive customer experience at the heart of our approach.

o Delivering income upwards of £2.5m per annum with year-on-year growth to £10.6m by 2028/29.

o Deliver Gift Aid targets across all shops.

o Assist the Retail Development Manager in launching new shops.

o Utilise digital and social media to drive footfall and stock donations.

o Support fundraising through the shops, including legacy and IG marketing.

o Tailor each shop in the portfolio to maximise the potential of its unique location and its role in the business – including exploration of clearance, vintage, furniture and books.

o Create a framework of retail standards of excellence and ensure shops are managed and maintained to those standards.

Sales and Profit

• Monitor and be accountable for sales and category performance, as well as ensure that the team are aware of and engaged in the area financial performance
• Foster a creative and entrepreneurial environment where team members seek to maximise income in new and innovative ways both within their shops and through a variety of channels, such as community events
• Drive the team to maximise income from Gift Aid on donated products
• Ensure that all financial procedures are adhered to and executed in a timely fashion by the shop teams

Shop Floor

• Ensure sourcing sufficient levels of donated stock locally in collaboration with the shop management and Retail Partnerships team
• Ensure compliance with efficient and commercially successful stock processing systems (such as pricing, quality standards, consumer safety, stock density and culling stock), including backroom systems and ensure these are adhered to by the volunteer team. Ensure that all legal and internal regulations regarding donated stock are adhered to
• Inspire the team to provide a great customer and donor experience, which enables us to attract new supporters every day. Ensure that feedback, including complaints are escalated to the Director of Retail within the agreed timeframes
• Empower the team to work in partnership with the Visual Merchandising Manager to create original, appropriate and commercially successful visual merchandising displays, including shop windows
• Make sure that all procedures for the sale of new and donated corporate products are followed by the volunteer team
• Work with the Director of Retail to ensure our shops are in good condition, maximise their potential and are fit for purpose
• Provide a safe and healthy working environment and ensure that all team members are aware of and operate within our health and safety policies and procedures, including waste management and customer safety

Leadership – Volunteers

• Support the Volunteer Manager and shop management teams to recruit, induct, and retain an inclusive and diverse volunteer team, which is large enough in numbers and capable to maximise income and profitability and guarantee the smooth running of the area.
• Maintain an empowered, well trained, motivated and engaged volunteer team with excellent levels of communication at team and individual level.

· Define and develop our retail volunteer programme to ensure first rate volunteer experience, engagement, and great customer experience.

Leadership - Paid Staff

· Support members of the charity retail team to embed a high performing, motivated, collaborative, creative and dynamic culture – and seek opportunities to celebrate success

Chronic Granulomatous Disorder (CGD) is a rare, life-limiting immune disorder, where children and adults get frequent bacterial and fungal infections, which can be serious and life-threatening.

The CGD Society is the primary resource for individuals facing a CGD diagnosis, offering essential information and support to families throughout their CGD journey. Key responsibilities

Community Fundraising 

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase income through regular giving, donations, campaigns, legacy giving, corporate partnerships, and other fundraising initiatives. 

• Promote participation in major sporting and challenge events.

The role of Supporter Care Manager is a vital role in our delivery of fundraising services to our client and is a new role created by splitting our current Database & Supporter Care Manager role into two separate roles. This role will focus on the quality of our donor journey, associated communications and the accuracy of our reporting in conjunction with our client’s Finance team. 

The Supporter Care Manager will ensure that all processes for recording and thanking donations is accurate, timely and meets regulatory and reporting requirements, whilst providing a friendly and supportive donor experience. Assessing current processes, identifying, and implementing improvements in collaboration with the Database Manager will be a key focus. The successful applicant will have a passion for leading a team to deliver excellent supporter care and donor communications whilst working with and supporting the wider Fundraising team to deliver results for our client and their beneficiaries.  

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Manage the Supporter Care Officers and several Fundraising Volunteers - providing mentoring and training and completing performance and development reviews.

The Wilder Wellbeing Officer will:

• Drive, embed and promote the benefits of a connection with nature to people.
• Develop and deliver resources and upskilling opportunities for communities and practitioners that support them to bring the wellbeing benefits of nature connection into their regular activities.
• Support Community groups to set up nature connection specific activity
• Support volunteers to creatively bring nature connection for wellbeing into their communities.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Responsibility 1: Developing and Maintaining Partner and Community Relationships

• Building on the legacy of previous wellbeing work, maintain relationships we have with health sector partners in Somerset as well as those supporting wellbeing through Social/Green Social Prescribing offers, including art and sports sector partners.
• Identifying individuals, community leaders and existing community groups in Somerset we are not currently working with and work to build trust and relationships.
• Working with our communications team, pro-actively provide content for external communications to highlight our work, the Team Wilder approach and the work of the communities and groups we are working with.
• Finding creative ways to reach previously underrepresented groups/individuals who may benefit from improved access to nature and who could help to take-action for nature in their communities.
• Supporting and inputting to the Local Nature Partnership Nature and Wellbeing Sub-Group, chaired by Somerset Wildlife Trust, and Somerset Nature and Wellbeing Practitioners Network.

Responsibility 2: Supporting Communities/Groups with Nature Connection for Wellbeing

• Championing the ‘Team Wilder’ approach to help create a movement for nature, sharing skills, experience, knowledge and learning about community organizing within the Trust and through the movement.
• Involving SWT and community-based volunteers to support with reaching previously underrepresented groups.
• Using in-depth knowledge of the benefits of nature connection for maintaining and improving health and wellbeing and experience in this field to community groups to embed in the services and informal support and advice they provide.
• Signposting individuals and groups to local nature and wellbeing/nature connection opportunities within their communities.
• Supporting individuals and groups with overcoming barriers to access.

Responsibility 3: Facilitating Events and Developing Resources

• Organising and facilitating public events and support community led events that aim to connect people to green spaces, recognizing the health and wellbeing benefits of doing so.
• Developing resources and guidance documents to support community groups, conservation sector colleagues and health practitioners to integrate nature connection/wellbeing into their regular activities.
• Working with community volunteers to ensure resources are relatable, accessible and include content that is most useful to communities and individuals we are supporting.

Role Purpose

This role is focused on maximising comms-based engagement across the GDI Hub’s portfolio, supporting GDI Hub’s growing outreach across project-based deliverables and organisational comms channels (e.g. social media, websites, content generation).

The post holder will work closely across GDI Hub comms team to support delivery across the organisational portfolio – with a focus on key regular outputs, reactive queries and organisational communications. ROLE SUMMARY 

The Head of Fundraising & Events will contribute to the growth of upReach through the raising of significant funds; you will have oversight of income generation from various sources including major donors, individuals, trusts & foundations and a portfolio of events. The role will suit innovative individuals with significant experience of fundraising from major donors and at least one of the other specified income streams, and event planning. 

You will represent upReach externally, advocating our work and building strategic relationships across our markets. You will be accountable for agreed income targets, developing the fundraising strategy and identifying new opportunities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of Fundraising & Events will support upReach's mission by meeting financial targets, recognising when to make the fundraising ‘ask’ and leading the annual budget process. You will use clear, creative written communication to produce convincing cases for support, represent the charity at relevant networking events, work closely with the upReach Development Board and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and External Engagement you will manage three direct reports and support individuals participating in the Future Charity Leaders Programme (upReach’s graduate scheme). You will work closely with  the CEO, Programmes and Finance teams and colleagues across the income generating and external engagement team.

The core responsibilities include: 

Leadership and strategy 

• Lead income generation to realise financial targets in line with the overarching strategy, personal responsibility for securing 5 and 6 figure gifts. 

• Provide leadership and inspire staff and volunteers to excel and achieve, champion the upReach values and defined Leadership qualities.

• Commit to the annual appraisal process, including deadlines and develop stretching, SMART OKRs (objectives and key results) to meet our strategic goals. 

• Deputise for the Director in their absence and play an active role in the Leadership team.

• Lead the strategic and operational planning process for the functional areas of responsibility and ensure the involvement of relevant stakeholders. 

• Keep abreast of developments, changes in trends and patterns, new techniques and legislation. Take responsibility for own professional development.

• Ensure planned activity is delivered in compliance with relevant charity law, other legislation, best practice and corporate policy.

• Act as a senior sounding board to ensure strategic decisions regarding donors and funders resonate with our objectives and mission.

• Contribute to strategic thinking including risk management and mitigation.

• Collate and present timely monthly management reports for each income stream.

• Lead the annual budget and financial forecasting processes to facilitate reporting and  strategic-decision making.

Working with stakeholders (internal and external) 

• Collaborate with colleagues in the income generation and external engagement team to identify and secure all various income generating and profile raising opportunities, ensuring maximum impact and contribution from funders. 

• Lead, champion and model a culture of outstanding donor stewardship and supporter care; including best practice and behaviour. 

• Develop and foster effective relationships with key external contacts at all levels, e.g. donors, supporters, suppliers. 

• Make the fundraising ‘ask’ as and when appropriate, or support others to do so.

• Respond promptly to requests for information and action from supporters.

• Report and disseminate the key issues to emerge from supporter feedback. 

• Manage the complaints procedures for the department and conduct full investigation of all complaints received by the department.

Developing, maintaining systems and procedures 

• Determine and manage the operating systems needed to deliver activity and enable effective donor, supporter and volunteer relationship management. 

• Effectively develop the donor journey.

• Ensure records in the CRM are up to date.

• Conduct analysis of data from across functions responsible for, drawing conclusions, making recommendations to the Director. 

• Ensure the management of systems and processes comply with the organisation’s data protection obligations, charity law and other legal requirements.

People Management and Team Working

• Recruit and lead the Fundraising & Events team, rotatees and volunteers as required.

• Ensure upReach promotes a high performance culture and professional integrity.

• Continue to develop the skills and knowledge of you and your team to ensure you are up-to-date with changing regulation and fundraising best practices.

• Lead and champion the implementation of business improvement and people development initiatives including training and rotations.

• Collaborate with colleagues across the department and organisation.

Major Donors and Individuals

• Develop and implement fundraising strategies to grow income.

• Nurture relationships with donors including high net worth individuals maintaining the highest level of donor care.

• Research, identify and engage prospective donors to secure 5 and 6 figure gifts.

• Lead the team on increasing donors numbers and gift income.

• Develop a legacies strategy and oversee delivery of awareness campaign.

Events

• Oversee the delivery of a sector leading events portfolio, achieving 5 and 6 figure income targets and building a pipeline of future activity.

• Lead the team on the delivery of multiple and complex events and activities at the same time including the Student Social Mobility Awards (SSMA’s).

• Engage, steward and motivate key stakeholders including the Development Board, potential event committee members and other high value volunteers to grow our network and deliver successful fundraising events.

Trusts, Foundations & Corporates

• Oversight of Trusts, Foundation & Corporate fundraising strategy.

• Work with the Senior Fundraising Manager to identify and build relationships with Companies, Trusts and Foundations which are mission and/or programme aligned.

• Support the acquisition of new, multi year funders and existing donors.

Other

• Regular out of office work may be required in order that the organisation is able to deliver on its commitments to its stakeholders

• Some UK travel will be required from time to time

Our expert team of canine behaviourists provide behavioural support and advice to teams within Battersea, members of the public, and the rescue organisations we work with around the world. You will be working as part of a care group to create behaviour modification plans, support with handling difficult dogs and make recommendations, along with the individual care group, for individual dog outcomes.
