This is a new and exciting role in Refuge, the post holder will be embedded within district borough housing teams to facilitate dual working that will ensure that survivors’ safety and housing needs are met. The housing advocate will be collocated within the council offices of their designated area to help facilitate:

• Close working relationships with Housing colleagues
• Provision of specialist knowledge relating to DA for Housing Officers and Homelessness Teams to draw on
• Specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis
• Provision of advocacy; supporting survivors to access safe accommodation
• Joint working with the IDVA or Domestic Abuse Outreach services to ensure all the survivors’ needs are met.

This recognizes that many survivors will approach Housing at moments of crisis, when they are either considering fleeing, or have already fled.

The housing advocate will carry a caseload of survivors that require additional support. They will work closely with survivors of domestic abuse from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy around housing needs.They will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and individual safety support. They will ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options.

Co-located housing advocacy is another form of community-based specialist domestic abuse advocacy support that focuses on victim/survivors’ self-identified needs, rather than needs defined by the service and any pre-defined actions the agency thinks victim/survivors should take. The work is undertaken with the victim/survivor around their individual needs and for a period dictated by need, not targets.

Refuge Manager 

Salary: £40,221, 5 days a week

The Refuge Manager post is instrumental in the delivery of care, a safe environment and a comprehensive package ofservices that meet the needs of the MENA women at risk of VAWG in our refuges. The post holder will be responsible formanaging IKWRO’s refuges and providing advice, advocacy, and casework support. The post-holder is required to demonstrate sensitivity and an awareness of the culture and needs of IKWRO’s service users in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a Research Coordinator to join us at NUM to support our Sex Workers Evaluate Reporting Violence (SWERV) research project!

SWERV is a research initiative between health researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and National Ugly Mugs (NUM), in collaboration with Brunel University. Together, with the meaningful involvement of sex workers across the UK, we will evaluate how membership and engagement with NUM services affects sex workers’ safety, mental health and wellbeing.

About NUM: 

National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is an award-winning charity with a mission to ‘end all forms of violence against sex workers.’ NUM provides a mechanism for sex industry workers to report crimes and harm they experience and share this information within their communities to warn others of potentially dangerous individuals and situations.

We have a dedicated casework team of industry experts who support sex workers to further access criminal justice remedies and other services as determined by victims/survivors to cope and recover from crimes they experience in the ways they choose. We also host a range of other projects in racial justice, mental health, drop-in support (Scotland), and vocational exploration.

About the project:

The SWERV project is a multi-year research collaboration between NUM and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. We will study how NUM’s alerts, the NUMchecker, reporting and casework (‘interventions’) affect sex workers’ safety and mental health, through five work packages A-E. We will interview sex workers who have and who haven’t used NUM, and service providers, about their views and experiences of NUM’s services, to understand who benefits from the interventions, how and why (‘qualitative process evaluation’ – work package B). We will ask new NUM members, and sex workers who aren’t members, to fill in a questionnaire twice, six months apart. The questionnaire will ask about violence, safety strategies, and mental health, to compare the experiences of sex workers who do and don’t use the alerts and the NUMchecker (‘impact evaluation’ – work package C). We will estimate value for money, by calculating how much the interventions cost to run and comparing this to no intervention, in terms of preventing violence against sex workers and improving their quality of life (‘economic evaluation’ – work package D). We will use the information to understand how NUM’s services work in different places and for different people, depending on their circumstances and the wider environment. We will take the ‘DEPTH’ approach which involves ‘dialogue’ workshops with sex workers and practitioners to design the research and recommendations together (work packages A and E). Together, we will use what we learn to recommend how to improve community-based violence prevention and survivor support services ‘by and for’ sex workers.

Person Specification

A successful candidate should:

· Have demonstrable experience and understanding of sex work, sex worker rights and self-determination, and be in good standing with the sex worker rights and sex work research communities in the UK

· Have a clear understanding of how intersecting factors including criminalisation, stigma, systemic racism, gender, disability, poverty, mental health and access to resources influence sex workers’ lived experiences, how they may engage with services and research, and their access to public services and police protection

· Be familiar with all aspects of the charity sector, the work of National Ugly Mugs and other sex worker-serving and sex worker-led organisations.

· Have knowledge of systemic racism as it operates within the UK and be embedded within an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework, whether this be through previous work, activism or personal life experiences

· Have experience leading or coordinating projects and a comfortability with qualitative and/or quantitative data collection (e.g. surveys, interviews, focus groups) and management, including participant recruitment.

· Have experience of organising and/or delivering events/workshops/outputs to share research/practice with communities and seek their input/feedback

· Have commitment to participatory research principles

· Have a commitment to NUM’s core principles of Sex Workers First, Quality Support and Learning and Innovation

· Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

· Have experience working independently and leading projects.

All candidates must be legally permitted to work in the UK

It is desirable, but not essential, that a successful candidate should also:

· Have experience of collaborating with different partner organisations (e.g. peer-led organisations, services, universities)

· Have experience of qualitative and/or quantitative research design and analysis

· Have experience of participatory research

· Have knowledge or experience of evaluation methods (e.g. process evaluation, impact evaluation, economic evaluation, realist evaluation)

· Have formal research experience in the humanities, social sciences and/or health sciences

VOICES are excited to be seeking our first full time fundraiser to support our growth and development. We are looking for an individual who has relevant sector experience, a good knowledge and understanding of fundraising and a commitment to working in a trauma informed way. As a survivor led organisation, we are looking for someone who shares our ethos and will be proactive in consulting with our Lived Experience Group(s).

You will work closely with the CEO to help secure the long-term future of VOICES, through expanding and diversifying our income generation.

With a good understanding and knowledge of grants and trusts fundraising, you will also help direct our future – with consideration to community fundraising, charity shop and/or social enterprise. Whilst we’ve many ideas about what it might look like, no decisions have yet been made and we’re keen to work collaboratively with our new fundraiser and hear their vision.

At VOICES, we have big ambitions which would cement our role as sector leader in recovery services and ensuring survivors’ voices remain at the heart of policy and practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop, oversee and actively lead the implementation of a fundraising strategy which exploits a wide range of fundraising opportunities, maintains diverse and sustainable income streams, and builds the organisation’s voluntary income capacity to meet its aims and objectives.

Job Description

Job Title

· Deputy Centre Manager (The Junction Youth Centre, High Wycombe)

Position in the Organisation

· Reports To: Centre Manager

· Responsible For: Youth Workers and freelance staff

· Working hours: The centre is open 7 days a week 4-9pm. Working hours are 1:45-9pm on a two-week rotation (4 days one week and 6 the following). This post includes regular weekend work.

· Working With: Other members of the Action4Youth team including the High Wycombe Mentor, other programme staff, schools, key partners including other local youth organisations, Buckinghamshire Council, Thames Valley Police and many more.

Main Purpose and Scope of the Role

This role will assist with the day-to-day management of the centre and lead a small team of staff, including Youth Workers and some freelancers. The Deputy Centre Manager will be working in partnership with the Centre Manager to ensure the safe running of the centre and to deliver youth work directly. This role will liaise closely with the Centre Manager in order to make sure youth provision is effective and inclusive for all young people.

This role will be based in a multi service drop-in centre in High Wycombe for young people aged 12 – 18 years (up to 25 with SEND). The service will offer a range of sessions and activities all under one roof, seven days a week, and provides specialist support to those who are vulnerable.

The centre provides support in the following areas;

1. Crisis support; a drop-in service operating seven days a week where young people can come in and access specialist support and signposting in the below areas from trained staff.

· Homelessness

· Sexual health/unplanned pregnancy/sexual identity

· Family breakdown

· Crime

· Violence

· Bullying

· Substance misuse

· Relationship breakdown

2. A programme of mentoring to support young people on a 1:1 basis.

3. Health and wellbeing; a timetable of weekly activities focussing on positive mental and physical wellbeing.

· Nutrition and cooking - A weekly ‘cook along’ session will be available for young people to participate in where they learn the basics of cooking healthy and cheap meals.

· A timetable of fitness sessions including boxing and MMA sessions.

· A fortnightly mental wellbeing session which will focus on topics such as positive body image, social media, mental resilience, stress management, positive relationships etc.

4. A Youth Space for socialising and leisure activities;

· Café area

· Pool table, table football, table tennis, gaming consoles

· Weekly homework/ study club providing a quiet space where young people can get support on any schoolwork

· Weekly SEND Youth Group- open to young people with additional needs only who can come to socialise and participate in sessions on life skills

Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Register young people on arrival at the centre
• Keep the centre clean and tidy and be responsible for opening/ locking up the centre
• Assist with the overall smooth running of the centre and all its activity strands
• Work closely with library staff, Eden security and other key partners
• Be the lead staff member, running the Youth Centre, when the Centre Manager is not on shift
• Attend Action4Youth team meetings (sometimes outside of working hours) and be a positive link between The Junction and the other Action4Youth sites
• Communicate effectively with all core staff, freelancers and partners to ensure the centre is running safely and effectively and always be a positive role model
• Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver sessions related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying
• Set up and run regular group youth work sessions in line with the key areas listed above
• Develop a positive rapport with young people based on respect and trust, ensuring the youth centre is a safe and welcoming place
• Establish boundaries and challenge inappropriate behaviour
• Mentor, coach and support individual young people
• Work in partnership with families and other key people in the young person's life, as well as with professionals from other organisations such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities, in order to build a strong support network
• Manage, support and mentor staff, including youth workers and placement students
• Undertake administrative tasks relating to the centre’s efficient running, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries
• Provide reports for funders and to SMT- including attendee numbers, case studies and other KPI’s as per funding applications.
• Promote the services of The Junction and take the lead in organising recruitment events at local schools. These may be outside the regular working hours, and you will need to claim time back in lieu.
• Attend local networking meetings to represent Action4Youth and promote the services of The Junction
• Work collaboratively with local community organisations to offer the best services to young people
• Always Act as an Ambassador for Action4Youth.

We’re looking for an experienced Bid Manager to help us improve the lives of young Londoners by growing our grant and contract-funded service portfolio.

You will understand the funding environment for youth charities from government commissioning and Trust funding opportunities, and will be ambitious to manage and drive growth across Safer London’s high quality and innovative service offer.

What the role involves

- Work effectively with Safer London’s practice teams to identify opportunities and prepare successful funding bids in a competitive environment.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective funders and scan the external environment to identify new funding opportunities that are aligned to Safer London’s aims and strategic priorities.
- Develop and write inspirational, accurate, and compelling funding bids with the view of achieving sustainable long-term support for Safer London’s work.
- Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders, including through maximising any relationships held by senior colleagues and trustees.
- Maintain and develop internal income generation systems and processes, including donor records, financial information, funder reports, and internal monitoring to ensure effective stewardship and internal visibility of progress against plans.

About us

Room to Heal is an established therapeutic community in London. We support refugees and people seeking asylum, many of whom are torture survivors, through an integrated programme of therapeutic and casework assistance, in the context of a community of survivors. Our approach recognises the political context of our community members’ multiple and ongoing experiences of trauma and marginalisation including in their home country, on their journey to, and within, the UK. We offer long term and holistic support.

We are a small team of committed and hard working individuals who work collaboratively in a supportive and friendly environment.

We are looking for a Director (maternity cover) who:

• Understands the experiences of our members in order to sustain Room to Heal’s therapeutic community and ensure the safety and appropriateness of all of our services
• Has awareness and interest in psychotherapy and group work
• Makes strategic decisions that centre the experience of refugees and people seeking asylum alongside maintaining the sustainability of the organisation
• Has the drive, care and vision to create new opportunities to support refugees and people seeking asylum and to learn and share experiences through external networks and partnerships in the UK and internationally 
• Is able to speak with authenticity and challenge injustices knowing directly what the impact is due to own lived experience
• Can lead by consensus and collaboration and has a strong belief in the therapeutic benefits of community. 

Hours:  7.5 hours per day (typically 9.30am – 5.30 pm with a half hour for lunch) 5 days a week. We will also consider 4 days per week, salary pro-rata’d

Salary: £45,000 - 50,000 per annum (full time salary)

Start-date: Autumn 2024 with 8-10 weeks handover with the current Director 

Pension and benefits: automatic enrolment pension scheme, 4% employer contributions and 4% employee contributions

ActionAid UK is a member of the ActionAid Federation, an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty.  As part of the ActionAid Federation, we work with women and girls, our partners, and dedicated staff in 43 countries to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.  ActionAid UK is looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Technical Adviser to join our Feminist Research & Policy team. This role is crucial in our efforts to become a feminist, anti-racist, and decolonial organisation, and to promote a world where women and girls are valued and can exercise their rights to economic security, wellbeing, safety, equality, and voice.

As the Senior Technical Adviser, you will bring your expertise, researching skills and commitment to prioritising girl-led approaches to programming research and advocacy. You will work closely with Women’s Right’s Organisations (WRO), Girls’-led Organisations (GLO), Federation Members, girl-researchers, and AAUK advocacy colleagues to co-create the Girl-led Action follow up to Girl-led research. This will involve working with girls to bring about the change they want to see through their research findings.

A key purpose of the technical advisers in the team is to provide policy, advocacy and influencing advise and technical advice to support resource mobilisation and programme quality (when expertise is not in the Federation). Another key purpose of this role is to strengthen AAUK’s reputation as an organisation taking an intersectional feminist, evidence-informed, and decolonial and anti-racist approach to girls’ rights’ research and action, programming and resourcing.

The post holder will have strong, practical experience in developing, supporting, and evaluating the impact of intersectional research led by girl and programming on Girls’ Rights in particular programming that supports adolescent girls’ leadership, reproductive health, prevention and response to harmful practices impacting girls (including early forced and child marriage and FGM/C), gender equality within schools and communities, girls economic rights, and community mobilisation to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls.

About the role

Our Welfare Officers provide direct and impactful welfare support to RAF personnel and their immediate family. As a trusted and confidential source of support, you will assist our service users with challenges they are facing, from mental ill-health, difficult relationships, domestic abuse, financial and cost-of-living concerns, resettlement, housing, childcare, equality issues, bereavement, military discharge or deployment and many more - no day will be the same, as such this is a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Welfare sector.

Our intervention is provided with consent on a non-statutory basis, and you will work with and engage our service users to develop appropriate interventions for individual outcomes.

Our service is transitioning to become more accessible and inclusive, digital technology plays a key role in this, as such you will use digital technologies to complement and enhance processes and service user experience.

You will play an active role within the community, promoting the service through the delivery of presentations and representing the service at public engagement events. You will also work closely with RAF welfare teams, local authorities, health, education, civilian agencies, charities and other military organisations to ensure the best outcome for the service user.

About you

To thrive in this role you will have relevant experience of supporting adults, families and children/young people. You will be able to take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to deliver presentations with confidence.

You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

It would be advantageous if you have experience of carrying out assessments, preparing plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes.

There will be some travel required and therefore you will need to be able to drive and have access to your own car.
