The Role 
 
As our Deputy Shop Manager you will be responsible for setting up our brand-new shop in Hull, supporting the Shop Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

You will manage the day-to-day operation of the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager, including managing a team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures. You will lead by example and ensure that volunteers, supporters, donors, and customers understand how their contributions are making a difference to the lives of people in Yorkshire and beyond. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Play an active part in running our shop in Hull, supporting the Shop Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

• Provide cover for days off, holidays and sickness as required, with possible occasional travel to other shops to provide support if needed by the charity. 

• Support the Shop Manager to maximise the income and profit of the shop through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation. 

• Manage a team of well-trained volunteers in the absence of the Shop Manager and take every effort to create a happy retail environment. 

• Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received). 

• Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 
 

• To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.

• To have Experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development.

• To have previous retail experience in charity sector or commercial sector is desirable. 

• To be highly organised with good time management skills.

• To be able to use own initiative.

• To be resilient and adaptable to change.

The Role 
 

The role of Shop Manager involves actively running our new shop in Hull and implementing processes and ways of working.

As our Shop Manager, you will manage the day-to-day operation of the shop including managing a Deputy Shop Manager and team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Manage and be accountable for implementing and complying with agreed shop operating policy and standards including Health and Safety and Trading Standards. 

• Be responsible for ensuring the shop is presented to the highest standards with attractive visual merchandising and window displays. 

• Be responsible for attracting and recruiting a team of new volunteers, ensuring they are well trained and take every effort to create a welcoming and happy environment. 

• Be responsible for ongoing volunteer training and engagement, ensuring the volunteer management system is actively kept up to date.

• Be responsible for ensuring the team are working towards achieving all key performance indicators. 

• Ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received). 

• Prepare and complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters.

Located in Chester, this is a large busy shop in a brilliant location, with a vibrant community!  As Store Manager, you'll be leading and motivating a diverse, passionate and experienced volunteer team, as well as focusing on maintaining standards and building strong connections within the local community to ensure the shop's continued success.

About You

You will be someone with exceptional people skills, a leader who understands the importance of community and enjoys supporting people to exercise similar passions through volunteering.

You'll bring:

• Proven experience leading and motivating teams, ideally having managed volunteers, or a retail team previously 
• A strong understanding of what good looks like in a busy and successful community-led shop, ideally with some experience within Retail or a clear passion for sustainable fashion and knowledge of products and trends
• A can-do attitude and ability to approach challenges in a positive way, knowing when to reach out for support and guidance where you need it.

Previous charity retail experience is ideal, but not essential. If you have transferable leadership skills or experience managing volunteers in other settings and are looking for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you!

Ways of Working: On-site – this role will be based in the Chester shop. The shop is currently open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm. We're looking for someone able to work 5 days (35 hours) per week to include some weekend working.

Our charity shops raise vital funds for Birmingham Hospice.  The generosity of our donors and shoppers plays a crucial role in supporting the community, helping us to provide care for local people living with a terminal diagnosis and for their families.

Our flagship superstore in Harborne, Birmingham, Reloved Brum is seeking to appoint a Floor Manager, who will support the Retail Area Manager and Superstore Manager through being responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shopfloor.

In this new, exciting role, you will be responsible for a range of key activities, such as visual merchandising, stock rotation and health and safety.  You will supervise and coach shop staff and volunteers.  You will drive and maximise sales to meet and exceed targets, ensure the shop is up to brand standards at all times.  Additionally, you will be responsible for opening and closing procedures, as well as till operation, making sure that all monies are recorded, secure and banked.

Key Responsibilities

Financial:

• Raising purchase orders, processing purchase invoices & expenses & making payments.
• Ensuring appropriate backup is saved within Xero to support accounting transactions.
• Liaising with wholesale customers, raising sales invoices and reviewing ageing debtors following up on payments.
• Routine communication regarding financial information with regulators and banks.

Board of Trustees & CEO support:

• Arranging Board and committee meetings - securing dates, venue bookings, preparing and collating papers and presentations, taking minutes and facilitating actions.
• Coordinate Trust policy reviews and ensure these are completed in a timely manner
• Organising team meetings, team awaydays and collating and sharing information and notes arising from those sessions

Recruitment & HR:

• Preparing documentation & placing adverts.
• Organising interviews both in person and online.
• Processing documentation - new starter details, contracts & updating the HR system.
• Organising and booking staff training as required.
• Arranging DBSs for staff and trustees as required.

Retail:

• Monitoring online stock levels, placing orders for merchandise, and liaising with our fulfilment centre.
• Ensuring our retail management system contains up to date data, by reviewing stock takes, accurately processing orders and updating the database as appropriate.
• Producing quarterly stock take reports.
• Supporting the sales team at Port Lockroy.

General:

• Monitoring inbox, office telephone & postbag

Working Hours

• 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Retail People Manager

Location:  Riddings Lighthouse, Derbyshire 
Contract:  Permanent, Full time
Salary: £26,500 - £28,500 per annum 
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday (5 days) acting as an emergency contact on a rota basis one weekend in four. 

The Lighthouse retail portfolio prides itself on innovation and creativity ,offering the sale of preloved goods in an array of shops within local communities.  Lighthouse retail has 34 stores across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire run by paid staff and volunteers.  Our retail vison revolves around ‘The People’ within the organisation with a view to invest and develop to reach our fullest potential. 

The People Manager will be responsible for overseeing the staffing across each one of our stores, ensuring that shops are fully staffed day to day. They will need a practical and engaging approach to enable staff to thrive in their roles and feel supported to meet the charity’s vision and mission. They will work alongside the rest of the retail team ensuring the aims and objectives of the people strategy are achieved. 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities: 

People Management

• Be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operations relating to the people side of retail. 
• Ensure the shop team and volunteer relationship is a professional and successful one
• Act as the first point of contact for the volunteer administrator in relation to volunteering matters and queries for retail. 
• Effectively communicate any relevant information to all shop teams regarding updates, charity activities, incentives, and performance. 
• Work closely with management and employees to embed changes and ensure solutions are realistic and sustainable. 
• Be able to work closely with the retail management team including the retail sales manager to ensure the people side of the charity is not impacting sales. 
• Overseeing the retail portfolio sickness and absence management including allocation and approval of annual leave throughout the year, forward planning contingency strategies ensuring shops are covered all the time even at short notice. Ensuring staffing hours do not exceed there’re banding allocation.
• Be competent in assisting with grievances, supporting with investigations and assisting with disciplinaries. 
• Act as deputy safeguarding lead as and when required. Be able to act in an advisory capacity demonstrating a higher level of experience and understanding when dealing with safeguarding issues that arise. 
• Be responsible for overseeing and leading with probation placements across our retail sites, acting as point of contact and ensuring that the relevant paperwork is up to date including the risk assessments for each placement. 

People Development 

• Ability to mentor and support staff through regular one to ones ensuring that they feel fully equipped to achieve optimum success in their work.
• Collaboratively with the HR team review and update the volunteer induction and training programme ensuring all aspects are relevant to the retail portfolio.
• Support staff with capability and performance issues including the management of their own staff issues such as, sickness, disciplinary, grievances and concerns through probation periods.
• Work closely with the retail management team on the delivery of innovative and interactive internal and external training to help staff develop their skill sets and achieve career satisfaction.

Recruitment & Onboarding

• Work closely with HR developing and implementing strategies to improve recruitment, attracting suitable staff, and retaining them.
• Ensure suitable and sufficient coverage of volunteer support in the retail portfolio.   
• Lead on the recruitment of new staff members, being able to assist shop managers in developing better teams and building strong foundations in line with the people strategy and recruitment and selection policy.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join SJA’s Bid Team, managing and producing tender responses across a variety of business areas including Commercial Training, First Aid and Health & Safety Supplies, Events, Urgent & Emergency Care, and other services. The role of the Bid Manager is to support the organisation in achieving revenue targets, business growth and strategic objectives through managing the Bid process and ensuring completion of high-quality tenders within the stipulated timeframes. Every win helps us to support and deliver more lifesaving initiatives throughout the country.

You will maintain and develop a bid library, tender pipeline and supporting processes, sharing best practice and learnings from bids which are won and lost whilst also analysing trends from tenders and recommending improvements or change to optimise the number of bids for which we can tender.  

You will be driven and self-motivated with the ability and proven track record in producing high quality and timely tender submissions. A team player with excellent communications and writing skills you will also possess the ability to prioritise, plan and coordinate projects accurately and assess financial risk as an essential part of this role.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Experience in managing, writing, or coordinating bids, tenders, proposals, or grants 
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise work to tight deadlines 
• Ability to work under pressure, working on multiple simultaneous deadlines 
• Understanding of what makes a winning proposal and ability to see a bid through a client’s eyes 
• Research and analytical skills to understand the commercial context of opportunities and how we can add value 
• In-depth knowledge of tender and proposal processes, with knowledge of public sector procurement an advantage 
• Good copywriting skills and attention to detail 
• Excellent spelling and grammar 
• Influencing skills, to help and advise internal partners at each stage of the tender and proposal process

About the Role 

Manage the Bid Management process, ensuring all bid documents meet deadlines and have undergone appropriate levels of scrutiny. Chairing and organising bid kick off meetings with internal stakeholders. You will need to feed the information into the Bid Writer in a timely and organised fashion and ensure all bids are of consistent high quality to meet the customer or commissioner’s expectations.

• You will also, where required, need to lead on writing, creating and preparing expressions of interest, prequalification questionnaires, ITT responses and standalone proposals and presentations working closely with operational/technical specialists within the organisation & ambulance operation to ensure excellence in quality, accuracy and presentation
• Lead on the creation and support bid presentations; including the preparation through to participation of delivery to key decision makers
• Maintain the Bid library working with functions and the operation to collate relevant, up to date supporting information for proposals, ensuring its accuracy and accessibility
• Complete the bid/no bid tool and agree with relevant key stakeholders to ensure any tenders are aligned with both the relevant departments strategy, operational capability e.g. skills, vehicles and capacity
