Job description

Suicide Bereavement Team Leader (South)

This is a 25 hrs per week role (salary is pro rata of 35 hrs).

Amparo is a leading support agency for those who have been bereaved, or otherwise affected by, suicide. We help people dealing with the trauma of suicide by offering practical assistance at a difficult time. Our Suicide Bereavement Liaison Workers (SBLWs) are key to this support, and we're looking for someone to lead the team in Kent & Medway.

You'll need a background in community work, social work, psychotherapy or counselling (although this role does not involve counselling). We're looking for someone with a minimum of three years post-qualification experience working with complex clients in a helping profession.

Working from home, you'll be responsible for supervising a team of staff within the Kent/Medway area, including co-ordinating and facilitating Line Management /Team meetings, cascading any supervisory concerns to the Head of Clinical Services and managing appropriate safeguarding and clinical issues.  You'll be supporting staff who are working with people that have been bereaved by suicide, coordinating and attending stakeholder events (including local memorial services) and undertaking the full recruitment process for new staff and volunteers.

You will also carry a small caseload of clients and be responsible for making first contact with these referrals - we pride ourselves on making contact within 24 hours. You'll build an ongoing support relationship with clients that could be short term or may last several months.  This may involve travel in your local area or regular contact by phone or video chat.

It's important work. Research shows that up to 10% of people who have been bereaved by suicide may go on to take their own life, but your support can prevent this. Since Amparo was created in 2015, not a single client has taken their life.

This is a role where you can make a difference, so please take a look at the job description and person specification for more details.

Amparo is managed by Listening Ear (Merseyside), a leading counselling charity in the north west.
