Reporting to the Strategic Director for External Affairs, this is a pivotal role which will tell NCB’s story and the difference we make from the playground to parliament, analysing, influencing and ultimately changing the complex systems on which children and families rely. The postholder will position NCB across the sector as a trusted convener, a catalyst for change and a champion of children and families.
The post is part of the NCB Enhanced Strategic Leadership Team and is accountable for harnessing NCB’s specialisms within a broad understanding of children’s lives, providing high level policy and political analysis.

The NILS pilot has already lent over £10 million to more than 13,000 financially vulnerable people, demonstrating the positive impact of affordable credit. This is a unique opportunity to lead a multi-million-pound programme through its final stages and oversee its strategic scaling for long-term sustainability.
The scheme is currently funded by HM Treasury, JP Morgan, and Fair4All Finance. We are looking for an experienced senior lead with a background in both commercial delivery and business case development, fluent in working with the public sector, mainstream finance, and civil society to oversee the final stages of the pilot delivery and to take charge of scaling up NILS.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) Programme: Oversee the final delivery phase of the NILS pilot, with the Programme Delivery Manager

The Role
The CEO will be accountable to the Board of Trustees for the overall strategic management, leadership, and development of BCD and achievement of the overall strategic objectives. Duties will include:

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity exists to support the pioneering work of The Royal Marsden, a world-leading and internationally renowned cancer centre. Our support enables the hospital to change the lives of cancer patients, and their families. around the world.
We raise funds to support life-saving cancer research, the construction of new world-class facilities, personalised treatment and care and investment in state-of-the-art equipment.
We are a very ambitious organisation which has gone through transformational growth over the past five years and exceeded our fundraising targets. However, with one in two of us expected to develop some form of cancer, it is essential that we go even further in our fundraising efforts to support the essential work of The Royal Marsden. Therefore, we have recently launched our most ambitious strategy yet, that will see us raising at least £215m over the next 5 years.
To support us on our growth journey we now have an exciting opportunity to join us as our permanent Head of HR. Reporting into the Associate Director of Corporate Services and Grants, you will be the HR professional lead for the organisation.
Key deliverables:
- Act as a strategic business partner and trusted advisor to senior leaders, developing excellent working relationships with the Senior Leadership Team, providing sound senior level HR advice, using data and insights to inform decision-making and drive performance.
- Effective delivery of day-to-day HR management and oversight, including HR Policies, performance management, staff surveys, pay and benefits and employee engagement, whist inspiring any direct reports and external consultants to deliver exceptional performance.
- The continuous development and management of a Learning and Development programme which delivers on the needs of a high performing fundraising organisation.
- Embedding EDI into all aspects of the management and development of people, to ensure we are able to attract, engage and retain a diverse and inclusive workforce which reflects the diversity of the cancer community we support.

Job Purpose
Empire Fighting Chance has grown significantly in recent years and we have ambitious plans for the future that require us to grow and develop as an organisation. Our new Head of People will lead our efforts to create a talented, happy and motivated team capable of realising our ambition. This role emphasizes leadership, development, and fostering a strong organisational culture. To enable you to focus on strategically advancing our people strategy, we have partnered with Be The Change (BTC), a local HR consultancy. BTC handles HR administration tasks such as contract management and recruitment support, ensuring your time is freed up for more impactful, strategic initiative.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategy
- As a member of the SLT, you’ll contribute to the charity’s organisational leadership and strategic development, you’ll:
- Lead the development and implementation of a people strategy that will enable Empire’s staff to flourish.
- Review and strengthen our practices related to people, including internal communications, CPD and onboarding.
- Support the transition of Empire from a founder led organisation to a founder inspired charity, including through the development of a Senior Leadership Team.
2. Culture and Wellbeing
- Work with colleagues to define the Empire workplace culture, recognising the charity’s heritage, values, and future plans.
- Develop a behavioural competency framework aligned to Empire’s culture, beliefs, and strategic objectives. We have a working name of Empire DNA, but we’d like you to develop this.
- Lead on the development and implementation of practices that strengthen Empire’s culture and support people’s wellbeing at work. Work with our HR Consultant to make this practice into policy.
- Explore using an annual staff survey to evaluate and enhance culture and wellbeing.
3. Professional Development
- Provide leadership, training and support to Empire’s managers.
- Introduce a standard of line management, and support staff to develop skills and a culture to achieve this
- Train and support managers to provide clear, timely feedback.
- Develop and implement Empire’s approach to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), ensuring the charity offers training and support that enhance people’s skills and career growth.

Experience
- Experience of making a significant contribution to an organisation’s people and culture strategy.
- Experience of developing and implementing people related strategies that achieve an organisation’s objectives.
- You do not need “HR” experience, but a light understanding of employment practices would be useful.
