Action Against Hunger UK invested in and accelerated the roll-out of the best approaches to prevent and treat severe acute malnutrition. This includes ensuring that operational research is supported by robust costing and cost-effectiveness analysis. 

We are looking for a Senior Research Advisor to work within the Nutrition Unit of Action Against Hunger UK’s Operations Department. The Senior Research Advisor will be expected to

1. Lead the implementation of a wide range of research projects (including evidence synthesis, economic evaluation, programme evaluations, clinical trials, and community studies) 
2. Support the positioning of Action Against Hunger as a key reference on the build-up of evidence in prevention and treatment of malnutrition research Project
3. Lead on evidence dissemination, knowledge management, research uptake activities as well as the development of training materials linked to research and Cost Effectiveness analysis.

You will be leading internal projects and external consultancy projects. In addition to members of the nutrition team, you will work with external partners which might include other NGOs, academic partners, UN agencies and independent consultants. You will apply analytical skills, strong technical experience and enjoy a flexible and adaptive working environment, while supporting the positioning of Action Against Hunger as a key reference on nutrition assessments and research. Our partner is a well-respected advocacy INGO. They are seeking to recruit a Project Accountant to provide financial management support to project managers and their oversea offices.

Responsibilities

• Finance business partner to project teams and country offices, offering financial management support.
• Prepare project budgets, monitor expenditure and cashflows, and prepare management accounts, including variance analyses and supporting narrative reports.
• Grant management, compliance and reporting – preparing financial reports to donors, ensuring that these meet their requirements.
• Review the capacity of overseas offices, and support with capacity building as required.

• Ensure the integrity and operational effectiveness of project accounting procedures, developing, and maintaining these as required, and supporting and coaching junior staff as required.
• Supporting the broader finance team, including junior finance staff, in any ad hoc analysis, reporting and project work as required

Person Specification

• Accountant, qualified or QBE, with at least 5 years of experience in accounting, an understanding of accounting & finance principles and management accounting & reporting.
• Experience of project accounting, grant compliance & management is desirable; an understanding of the grant compliance & reporting requirements of the EU and German government grants is desirable.
• Strong IT skills, including advanced MSExcel skills. Competence in SQL an advantage.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate financial matters to non-finance staff.
• Quick learner, organised and flexible, able to meet tight deadlines.
• Fluent in English, with excellent spoken and reporting writing skills. Working knowledge of French or Spanish is highly desirable. Knowledge of German is not essential or required.
• Culturally sensitive
• Willingness to travel abroad.

We are looking for a Finance Consultant for our War on Want Financial Changeover Project.

War on Want is a radical charity, formed over 70 years ago which exists to campaign for action on the root causes of poverty. These are understood to be political, the result of choices made by governments and corporate elites. War on Want’s history has taught that only by educating the public about the root causes of poverty and the solutions needed, alongside them taking collective action together, can we bring about the change needed. 

War on Want works in the UK and globally with in partnership with trade unions and grassroots social movement groups to challenge the structures of poverty and injustice.

The Council of Management of War on Want together with Senior Management team have decided to invest in a financial system upgrade that involves the following:

• Migrating from existing accounting package, Exchequer, to a new accounting package (to be confirmed and chosen with the consultant) with no loss of data.
• Revising the existing chart of accounts, cost code and department codes structure to make it more user-friendly.
• Producing a new more sophisticated template of management accounts that feeds into an accounting system of choice.
• Providing training on the use of new accounting system and writing a manual for different groups of users (capturing key processes and tasks).

The budget for this work will not exceed £15,000 excluding VAT, and includes all related costs and expenses.

Proposals are invited to bid for the work which should include an outline of key tasks, timelines, and costs.

Over the past 50 years, they have made major strides in abolishing inhumane practices such as barren battery cages, veal crates, and sow gestation crates in the UK and Europe.   

Their approach involves campaigning, advocacy, and engagement with policymakers at national, intergovernmental, and corporate levels, building a movement of individuals concerned about animal welfare and the health and sustainability of our food. They are driven by a passion for animal welfare and food system change, believing in a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and where sustainable farming practices prevail for a healthy planet.   

Their international headquarters are in Godalming (UK), with team members in 14 countries on four continents including the US, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, China, and a specialist policy office in Brussels. This role is part of the Global Fundraising Directorate of over 50 staff, consisting of Philanthropy, Individual Giving, Legacies, Digital, CRM and Brand teams, based internationally, primarily in the UK (HQ) and our six other fundraising markets in the USA and Europe. 

About the Role: 

They are looking for an impressive and talented Associate Director Philanthropy (UK & Europe) to lead their successful and growing UK & European focused Philanthropy programme and team. Reporting into the Global Director of Fundraising, you will lead a dynamic and ambitious team responsible for significant growth from UK and European philanthropic partners and seek new opportunities in other geographies (outside North America), working closely with the US Director of Philanthropy. This is an exciting time to join the Global Philanthropy team and contribute to delivering their mission to end factory farming by 2040. With growing awareness of the devastating impact of factory farming not only on animals, but on human health and the environment, now is a unique moment to be raising funds for their work and bringing new donors on board.

Their Global Philanthropy team has been successful in securing income growth over recent years, and they have invested in their team to build on this momentum, expanding into continental Europe and growing their UK team, as well as their US team. This role will lead further growth, ensuring their existing relationships with Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations, corporate donors and partners flourish and grow, while having a focus on identifying and building new relationships and funding opportunities, broadening our international scope and ambitions beyond their UK and US bases.

About You: 

To succeed in this exciting role, you will need to have significant experience in fundraising or philanthropy, ideally in a similar position. You'll need to have proven success and be motivated by working in a fast-paced and complex international environment, with the flexibility to travel within the UK and internationally, as needed, and sometimes at short notice. You will personally lead the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of donors at a high level (6- and 7-figure) which will primarily consist of HNWIs and Trusts and Foundations, and have a focus on identifying and developing new prospect relationships. You'll have a collaborative and ambitious approach, and have previous experience of managing a international philanthropy teams, with a proven track record of raising substantial donations, particularly at or above the £500k level, with experience at the £1 million level, being highly desirable. 

You'll need to be a motivated philanthropy leader, with a passion for animal welfare, sustainability, and creating impactful international change. Adept at building high-value donor relationships across diverse markets, you will be able to demonstrate a clear strategic vision, and a collaborative approach that drives growth within mission-driven organisations. You’ll need to have strong leadership skills, that can enable you to mentor your team, foster a collaborative environment, and set clear goals aligned with our mission. Fluent in English, and ideally another European language (such as French), you will excel at engaging diverse stakeholders, presenting complex ideas clearly, and managing budgets effectively. Resilient, adaptable, and energetic, you will be ready to inspire partners, mobilise resources, and play a pivotal role in their mission to create a transformative impact on animal welfare and sustainable food systems worldwide.
