Job description

Permanent role, full time 35 hours per week. Salary £35000.00 per annum

Mothers' Union is a global Christian movement working with people of all faiths and none to develop communities, strengthen families and advocate for change. Our members are active in 83 countries and work tirelessly to serve their communities to build a future where everyone thrives.

Mothers’ Union, founded in 1876 is a women-led volunteer Christian movement, with a membership of four-million people around the world, 36,000 of whom live in the UK and Ireland. Members express their faith through action in their local communities, aiming to create a world where every individual can reach their full potential, by ending poverty, injustice and violence.

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships. This brand new role marks an exciting chapter our history. This is a brilliant opportunity to start a major giving programme in an organisation with lots of great connections and networks.

What we do

Although a Christian movement, we work with people of all faiths and none to develop communities, strengthen families and advocate for change. Members are active in 83 countries and work tirelessly to serve their communities to build a future where everyone thrives.

Our work combats injustice, violence and poverty at local, regional and national levels. From a literacy and agriculture project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, through to consultative status with the United Nations commission for the Status of Women, where we share our grassroots knowledge and experience to help  shape international policy and approaches to women’s rights and  empowerment. These are just two examples of how we put our faith into action.

About the Role

Mothers’ Union (MU) is placed within communities and churches in a position to challenge behaviours and abuse as it happens, and bring healing and support to those both within and outside of our membership who are affected by this. We have a responsibility to ensure that all work undertaken by MU staff (a small team) and volunteers (who are organised through a federation of independent MU Charities affiliated to the Central Charity) complies with global safeguarding standards.

We are looking for an individual with the experience to help to continue to move our safeguarding policy and practice forward, by ensuring that appropriate and engaging training and support is available to our staff, members and leaders, ensuring capacity is developed specifically in Britain to facilitate longer term organisational behavior change in the communities we serve.

About you

You are an experienced safeguarding professional, that understands how safeguarding relates to a global, grassroots organisation – and specific, current knowledge of the UK context. Ability to create engaging and clear training for different audiences, both online and in person, excellent communications skills (written and verbal) and experience in making sure volunteers adhere to the global safeguarding standards. Motivated by a genuine passion for the work of Mothers’ Union, you bring resilience, positivity, and a can-do attitude to everything you do. You will thrive in an environment of learning and make a huge impact.
