Thomson Reuters Foundation is looking for a Legal Manager, Legal Service for Independent Media to join our TrustLaw team.

As Legal Manager, Legal Service for Independent Media, you will provide dedicated project leadership to continue to pilot the operationalization and implementation of a legal offering to support journalists and independent newsrooms, whose safety and independence are under threat.

You will report to TrustLaw’s Head of Special Projects, while working closely with the TrustLaw and the Media Freedom teams. You will manage one Legal Officer, Media Freedom.

This is a fixed-term 12-month contract based in London.

About the Role:

As our Legal Manager, Legal Service for Independent Media, you will:

• Map evolving trends and legal threats for journalists, media freedom NGOs and independent media outlets and identify the most pressing legal gaps and needs

• Build excellent relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including expanding our network of expert NGOs and legal teams working in the media, journalism and media freedom space

• Refine the operating model for the media-legal offering based on feedback received, including intake process, eligibility requirements, project flow, and impact monitoring mechanisms

• Work closely with our Media Freedom and Programmes team to ensure alignment and integration of the media-legal offering within the Foundation's existing media freedom work, and to identify other innovative programming, products and approaches that best leverage the Foundation’s assets

• Scope, and support the management of pro bono or low bono legal requests and cross-border research projects that address critical needs of journalists, media freedom NGOs and independent media outlets

• Scope and oversee the development of tools, resources, trainings and other content on key legal issues of relevance to journalists and independent media outlets to address threats to their safety and independence and build resilience

• Deliver and/or coordinate delivery of trainings, legal health checks and events for media freedom NGOs, journalists and/or media houses, often in partnership with the programming teams

• Support the development and implementation of a communications, engagement and outreach plan, as needed, in collaboration with the Foundation’s Communications, Social and Media Freedom teams

• Support bid development and partnership-building to ensure financial sustainability of the offering

• Carry out a variety of administrative, reporting, planning, monitoring, and logistical responsibilities linked to the project

About You

To be our Legal Manager, Legal Service for Independent Media, you will likely have:

• An LLB, with preference for a qualified lawyer or an advanced law degree

• At least five years’ experience working in the legal field, with prior experience in media law or related human rights matters, either in a law firm, media house or non-profit organisation

• Strong understanding of international standards on press freedom and/or the media law/policy landscape. Understanding of the legal needs of journalists and media outlets in the global south or Central/Eastern Europe/FSU an advantage

• Excellent project management and organisational skills including the ability to manage effectively multiple matters and projects in a fast-paced environment, with a high degree of creative and flexible thinking, and the ability to incorporate lessons learnt through pilot delivery

• Prior experience working on donor-funded projects is a plus

• Excellent research, drafting and analytical skills, with experience in training an advantage

• Excellent interpersonal skills – able to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally, with people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds

• Resilience, ability to cope with high pressure and work environments and find solutions to problems when they arise – able to quickly understand complex information and communicate to non-experts

This is an exciting role to support the development of a learning agenda and value proposition for the Fund as well as producing relevant communications and reports.

First launched in 2016, the Fund supports innovative projects by ISEAL Community Members to help sustainability systems deliver more value to their stakeholders and effectively drive sustainability improvement on the ground, over time, and at scale. The Fund provides grants that enable recipients to develop and test new technologies and approaches, while drawing out cross-project learning to share with the wider sustainability community.

The Associate Manager will work closely with grantees to improve the ways learning is extracted from the projects. We will look to the position to take ownership of the engagement processes necessary to collate and share lessons learnt in a strongly collaborative setting with Community Member organisations or other stakeholders.

The key responsibilities we entrust you with

Implementation of Innovations Fund learning agenda

• Develop and maintain an overall learning agenda for the Fund, and support Fund and programme team on its delivery  
• Organise and conduct stakeholder interviews and other forms of research to extract project learnings, alone and in collaboration with other project staff
• Facilitate peer to peer interactions between organisations participating in projects to share and discuss learning, including supporting the organisation and delivery of project workshops and ISEAL events such as Members Weeks
• Capture key learnings from grantees based on the learning agenda by leading the design of grantee knowledge sharing sessions (theme-focused learnings), as well as cross-thematic learning workshops
• Lead explorations on the need for external research and scoping activities to inform the focus of Fund’s thematic funding rounds.
• Project manage work with external consultants on research and scoping activities
• Propose and implement methodologies for capturing the learning and studies of fund effectiveness during and after project implementation

Communications

• Working with the rest of the Innovations Fund team, identify key spaces for increasing Fund’s visibility (e.g., key players or events in the innovations space) and map internal and external stakeholders for engagement and to widen the Fund´s impact
• Support implementation of the Fund’s communications strategy, identifying target audiences for Fund project outputs and the best approach and learning products for each
• Identify external events to which the Fund can actively contribute
• Produce briefing papers, blogs, case studies and slide decks, and manage content on ISEAL’s online platforms, to communicate project findings, outcomes, and achievements
• Produce impact case studies for use in multiple comms channels
• Working with thematic leads for various Innovations Fund grant rounds, extract and analyse data to identify key lessons as well as trends and produce reports to share practical lessons and insights
• Project manage work with external designers to produce fund related material

Process Improvements

• Review and input on call announcements, application and full proposal templates to ensure incorporation of the learning and/or communications components
• Recommend improvements to grantee narrative and learning report and other templates to ensure incorporation of learning and/or communications components

Other

• Support organisation in Monitoring & Evaluation tasks and contribute to donor reporting
• Help to ensure that the Innovations Fund and related activities deliver on annual workplans, meet commitments to donors
• Identify and develop new sources of data and information

Essential experience, knowledge and attributes

• Solid experience in a role related to project or programme learning activities, analysis of project data and reporting of lessons learnt
• General knowledge of international development and/or sustainability context where sustainability systems operate
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and topical areas
• Excellent project management skills, with ability to establish and manage priorities
• Excellent writing skills and ability to synthesise and distil technical information for a range of audiences

Terms and Conditions

• Location: This role can be based at the MAF UK Offices in Folkstone, Kent or optionally could be in the Oxford, Cambridge arc as we seek to launch a new hub in the Milton Keynes area, maximising our engagement with a thriving local aerospace and charity sector region.  Up to two days a week in our Folkstone Office might be initially required.We welcome hybrid working in line with our flexible working policy, the needs of the business, the requirements of the role and your location. An international charity supporting over 30 countries worldwide is seeking an experienced interim Finance Business Partner to support the communication and fundraising directorate. 

As Finance Business Partner, you were regularly advise Communications and Fundraising leaders and senior leadership to inform decision making and maximise fundraising income and support in key decisions on how it is spent.  An overview of some of the key responsibilities is below:

Youth Voice Participation Workers needed in Birmingham

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way.

This role sits within our Youth Practice team, across Yorkshire and Newcastle. The focus of the role is to develop a culture of youth voice & participation within services. Also to lead a programme of youth voice and participation work with children and young people in order that their views and ideas inform the work of services and The Children's Society.

We are currently looking for an individual that is passionate and energetic and committed to the values of youth voice and participation to join our dynamic, ambitious team.

We are looking for someone with good administrative skills to join our small and friendly Services Delivery Team. You will provide admin support across the organisation and be responsible for setting up family support courses, both locally and online. This will include liaising with parents/carers, professionals as well as staff and volunteers.

The successful individual will be responsible for supporting all teams with data entry. Along with a colleague, the role has first line responsibility for Check-In Check-Out, our safeguarding procedure for staff and volunteers, including monitoring, recording outcomes, chasing non-compliance and producing a range of reports. You will also train others on this procedure. We are looking for someone who can provide admin support across the organisation, including taking minutes.

You will have extensive administrative experience and have completed a range of admin tasks. The successful individual will have good accuracy, time management and be able to work successful on their own initiative. Good communications skills, both verbal and written as well as good IT skills are essential. You will be able to type at a minimum of 40 words per minute, without errors.

Ideally the successful individual will be located within 1.5 hours travelling distance of Hatfield, Hertfordshire as our head office is based in that location and you would be required to go in from time to time. As this is a home-based role you are required to have a suitable quiet and confidential space in which to work, along with a good broadband connection.

The salary for 35 hours per week is £23,868.35 per annum.

About the Role:

As our Outreach Lead, you'll play a crucial role in expanding our reach and impact across the Thames Valley. Based at our Reading centre, you'll split your time between office work and travelling across the region to meet with partners and attend events.

This role offers a unique blend of relationship management, event planning, data analysis, and direct involvement in our service delivery. Whilst primarily focused on Berkshire, you may occasionally travel to London for training and collaboration with our London office.

• Manage and nurture relationships with referral partners across Berkshire, including job centres, refuges, prisons, work programme providers, and other charities.
• Research and create project plans to engage new referral partners and maintain existing relationships.
• Organise and attend inspiring events to showcase our impact and increase referrals.
• Analyse data and manage our referral database to identify opportunities and track our success.
• Share regular, engaging communications with referral partners.
• Pilot innovative initiatives to boost engagement with our partners.
• Support the smooth running of our Reading centre, including answering calls and booking appointments.
• Participate in regular online meetings and annual conferences with the wider Smart Works team.

The Felix Project is London's biggest food redistribution charity and the largest end-to-end food redistribution charity in Europe.

Our vision is a London where no one goes hungry and good food is never wasted.

We rescue surplus food from businesses, supermarkets, restaurants and farms. This food is nutritious, in-date, and safe and includes a high proportion of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and fish. If we did not rescue this food, it would be at risk of going to waste. Instead, we deliver it free of charge to London charities, schools, food banks, COVID food hubs and other organisations serving people in need. Our food is a vital lifeline for children and families, people on low incomes, people who have lost their jobs, the homeless, refugees, domestic abuse survivors, the elderly and keyworkers.

The main purpose of the role is to identify and secure new surplus food supply and develop long-term supply partnerships while growing the relationships we hold with existing suppliers. You will play a big part in ensuring that the charity is successful in achieving its objective to rescue and secure a growing supply of surplus food that will take us to our ambitious future meal targets.
