The Think Ahead programme
Think Ahead offers a paid two-year social work training programme, partnering with NHS trusts and local authorities across England. Each year we train up to 160 social workers, bringing passionate people into the sector and strengthening mental health services.
Joining a unit of fellow trainees, you’ll learn on the job, working alongside mental health professionals and learning from senior social workers.

Who are we looking for?
We want people who can make a real difference and help people living with mental illness. You don’t need any prior experience of social work, but you will need to:
- Hold or be predicted to hold a 2:2 in a subject other than social work.
- Hold at least a grade C at GCSE level in Maths, and in English or English Language (not English Literature), or an equivalent level 2 qualification.
- Have the right to remain and work in the UK (including access to public funds) for the entire duration of the programme.

About the role
Mental health social work is a highly varied role that offers a wide range of opportunities to support the lives of people with mental health needs.
Using a social approach, you will help them address a diverse range of factors including relationships, housing, and employment, that are often overlooked in treatment of mental illness.
This might include standing up for someone’s legal rights in the workplace; reconnecting them with friends, family and their local community; or working with local authorities to make sure they are living in accommodation that is suitable for their needs.

Key Responsibilities
To work closely with the Evidence & Advocacy Manager (EAM) to develop and implement a series of impactful evidence and research projects that support our advocacy messaging, as well as internal and external learning for inclusive programmes and advisory work. These projects will build on established workstreams alongside developing new ones to maintain and extend CBM UK’s evidence base.
Disability Evidence, Policy Research and Learning
With EAM support the ongoing CBM UK Research and Evidence workstream, through:
1. Translating evidence from our programming countries and projects to produce and contribute to a range of resources to influence FCDO and other stakeholders. Tasks to include managing and maintaining established outputs, such as the CBM UK Project Evidence Briefs and Disability Voices paper series, generating new thematic papers, as well as policy and position papers to enhance effective advocacy submissions, briefing notes, blogs and other messaging on key disability rights issues.
2. Working collaboratively within CBM UK and across CBM Global to help develop and to deliver new policy research, drawing on mixed methods and data sources including national and international databases, using qualitative approaches including participatory or citizen generated data, and new empirical work.
3. Supporting Programme staff to improve impact and learning practice in CBM UK funded projects, provide technical support for the implementation of programme related research and data collection, including MEAL.
4. Providing technical research support into the development of proposals for new grant funded projects, and, where successful, support the management of subsequent research projects.
5. Keeping abreast of new research and publications on key themes and priority concerns within the CBM UK Advocacy and Influencing Strategy, taking into consideration sector trends and developments, and ensure this is disseminated to relevant staff within the CBM UK Team.
6. Keeping watch on UK policy environment and conducting research and analysis to support CBM UK advocacy messaging on disability and human rights.
Dissemination and Communications
1. Maintaining and developing internal knowledge management systems for research and information on disability inclusion and rights, and related areas, to be used by Advocacy, Programmes and Fundraising & Communications teams.
2. Ensuring communication plans are developed with CBM UK and Global Federation colleagues for CBM UK evidence outputs.
3. Maintaining the Advocacy and Influencing pages of the CBM UK website ensuring rights-based communication and focus to support CBM UK and Global campaigns.
4. Liaison with Fundraising & Communications colleagues to amplify media stories, case studies and compelling evidence from country programming for advocacy purposes.
5. Participation in and building good relationships with UK-based disability and development networks, including relevant research networks and membership of the BOND Disability and Development Group.
6. Supporting the professional publication and printing of CBM UK outputs, for dissemination at advocacy engagements and public events.
Other
1. Work with other CBM UK teams to maximise cross fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.
2. Help develop a culture of enthusiasm and success, reflecting the ambitions of CBM. Play an active role across CBM, promoting positive working and innovation. Ensure that the values of CBM UK are understood by external partners and always reflected in communications.
3. Identify opportunities to initiate and contribute to new initiatives and events, both within CBM UK and externally.
4. Provide briefings and analysis for the CEO and other Leadership Team members where appropriate.
5. Carry out any other duties as required by the Evidence & Advocacy Manager, Director of Advocacy, and CEO.

To deliver money and energy advice service for kidney patients struggling with their energy and water bills and other costs of living challenges. You will provide subject matter expert support within our Patient Support Services team, and will work closely with our Patient Support & Advocacy Officers to develop and grow this service in your area.
Summary
To raise awareness of the service and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other kidney stakeholder groups in your defined geographic region.
Key responsibilities
• With support, establish the Kidney Care UK Money & Energy Advice Service in the region for patients and carers at risk of fuel poverty to access independent support on money and energy matters
• Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Money & Energy Advice Service across the region, effectively managing an ongoing caseload
• Provide practical advice to patients, assessing their needs and identifying sources of support to resolve financial, practical and psychosocial challenges.
- Activities will include creating budget plans, completing income maximisation checks and benefit claims, carrying out switching exercises and Home Energy Surveys (this is not an exclusive list of tasks)
- Responsible for identifying cases where FSA approved advice is required, and supporting patients in the referral of their case to our approved partner organisation or other appropriate regional/national services
• Act as a gateway to local information and access to:
- Kidney Care UK Patient Grants service, raising awareness of the service and supporting applications
- Kidney Care UK Patient Support & Advocacy Service, to ensure patients have access to reliable and accurate patient information relating to kidney disease, patient pathways, models of care, and patient choice
- Kidney Care UK Counselling Service and other appropriate services to meet patients’ emotional and physiological needs
• Work closely with local Kidney Care UK Patient Support & Advocacy Officers to ensure that patients receive expert advice in all areas of need, with smooth, effective handovers ensuring that patients feel supported and part of the Kidney Care UK ‘family’ at all times

We are seeking a Sex Worker Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (SWISVA) to provide appropriate emotional and practical 1-to-1 support to people involved in sex work, who often experience stigma and face barriers to accessing services. Working within a specialist sexual violence approach, you will be enabling people to access support and navigate services, including those directly related to sexual violence. You will support them to navigate criminal justice processes if they wish to do so. You will be working in partnership with other agencies and making appropriate referrals for people to access other services to support their wider needs. You will play a key role in advocating for improved responses to sexual violence, including pathways through the criminal justice processes.
The post is part of a unique partnership between National Ugly Mugs, Basis Yorkshire and POW (Nottingham) to ensure more specialist support for sex workers who have experienced sexual violence, to develop good practice guidelines, develop and share learning, and to influence change in provisions for sex workers. Each organisation will be employing a SWISVA; the program will be led by a Program Coordinator who will be based with Basis Yorkshire, and who will lead on influencing of policy and sharing of learning to improve outcomes for sex workers who have experienced sexual violence
The main role responsibilities (further outlined in the job description) are:

Oversee a caseload of people who have experienced sexual violence

Ensure that sex workers have access to specialist sexual violence services, including access to the SARC and support throughout the criminal justice process

Ensure that safeguarding practice is embedded within working practices to effectively support those at risk

The GMHAN is now looking for a new Network Manager to bring together partners to work to drive action and make a difference. Two years ago, the network restructure and bought in a full-time network manager post, now funded by Greater Manchester Mayors Charity and the Lloyds Foundation.
Since this role was initially bought in, the network structure and funding as strengthened, however we are now looking for someone to play a key role in further developing the GMHAN’s strategic role across the region. This includes facilitating full network events, supporting systems change through our network task groups, driving the work of the coordination group and bringing new partners into the network.
This role will have some involvement in new funding applications for additional roles and will be the line manager for the network’s Lived Experience Co-ordinator post.
While the network has an already established structure, we are looking for someone who has their own ideas about how to mobilise partnership working and will feel confident brining their vision to the network, as well as challenging already established ideas.
If you are interested in delivering coproduction, bringing people together and driving change, then this is a great opportunity to build on your knowledge and develop your skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strengthening the Network
- Working to identify, connect with and involve individuals, organisations, communities, funders, and commissioners to help grow the membership of the network.
- Identifying opportunities for the network to influence systems change and mobilising the wider network to respond to these opportunities.
- Supporting the network’s task groups to work in an action focused way, by having strategic oversight of their work, linking them to opportunities and facilitating joined up working between the groups.
- Identifying funding opportunities to continue the work of the network and working with relevant partners to secure funding for the staff roles and other operational costs of the network.
Supporting Co-Production
- Encouraging and facilitating the involvement and leadership of people with personal insight into homelessness at every level by growing and supporting culture shift towards co-production.
- Line management of the network’s Lived Experience Coordinator and working with them give people with lived experience of homelessness opportunities to engage in the network
Communications
- Oversight of network comms to ensure key messages are communicated with the wider network. This includes sending regular newsletters, maintaining the network website and managing social media accounts.
- Coordinating and facilitating full network events, by identifying key contributors and supporting them to share their work.
- Representing the GMHAN at external events and in some cases presenting to a range of stakeholders about the structure and purpose of the network.
Other
- Have overall responsibility for monitoring and evaluation required for funders.
- Carry out other reasonable duties that may be required in the light of the main purpose of the job and as requested by your line manager.
- Follow GTM’s policies and procedures.
About the Greater Manchester Homeless Action Network
The Greater Manchester Homeless Action Network (GMHAN) is a cross-sector partnership that brings together everyone across Greater Manchester working to end rough sleeping and prevent homelessness. This includes a range of sectors and specialisms, such as charities, local authorities, housing providers, faith partners and people with lived experience of homelessness. The GMHAN aims to operate using the principles of co-production and community development, placing people with experience of homelessness in the lead.
The work of the GMHAN seeks to add value to local networks and build connections at a GM level. This is done by connecting the many smaller local networks, with local and regional public and private sector bodies, including policy makers and politicians, to influence and design policies and programmes that affect the lives of those experiencing/at risk of experiencing homelessness. We do this through large in person events every 3 months aimed at co-designing Greater Manchester’s homelessness policy and showcasing best practice. Our network events focus on different themes (such as the criminal justice system or youth homelessness) and bring together people passionate about that area to share their experiences and form a collective voice to push for social change.
We also run three task groups- Learn, Lobby & Deliver. The groups are a space for action to happen outside of events, where people from all areas can come together to progress this work and identify areas where the network can influence change. All this work feeds into the GM Homelessness Programme Board, where key decisions are made.

Transforming lives and communities across Greater Manchester

We are looking for a Global Technical Lead – Inclusive Education to provide technical leadership and expertise in inclusive education to guide the development and delivery of specific initiatives and programmes.
As the Global Technical Lead for Inclusive Education, you will support Sightsavers to promote inclusive education for children, youth, and adults with disabilities in education systems in West Africa, East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA), and South Asia. Working across multiple countries, you will ensure that disability inclusion is at the centre of conceptualisation, design and implementation of Sightsavers’ projects.
Strong communication skills in English and French are essential for this role, as is the availability to travel 12-16 weeks a year, nationally and internationally.
The minimum requirements for this post are as follows:
- To provide technical leadership and expertise in inclusive education at the programmatic level
- To strengthen the global programme portfolio in inclusive education through leading strategic and technical inputs in proposal development for funding opportunities.
- To pioneer new strategic initiatives and innovative approaches in inclusive education to improve and enhance the quality of Sightsavers’ work, especially in cross-cutting priority areas like climate action, gender equity and the use of data and evidence.
- To contribute to the research, innovation, policy, advocacy and communications agendas through close collaboration with interdepartmental teams and key external stakeholders.
- To undertake senior level representation of Sightsavers as an expert in inclusive education at national, regional and international professional and sector-specific networks, platforms, conferences and meetings.

The essential skills needed for this role are:
- Business to fluent French language skills
- A Postgraduate qualification (minimum Master’s) or equivalent experience in a relevant field, e.g. education, special needs education; disability, international development
- A proven record of leading, developing and implementing programmes in inclusive education in lower income countries.
- Experience of working with national governments and international institutions such as Global Partnership for Education, UN agencies, bilateral agencies as well as non-state actors to contribute to education system transformation.
- Knowledge of current developments, issues and best practice in inclusive education to effectively address the barriers to education for children with disabilities
- Able to travel for up to 12-16 weeks a year (regional and international).

The Immigration Adviser at LAH will provide advice and assistance on basic visa and immigration matters, including handling straightforward cases, often referred to as "initial advice" or "entry-level advice." You will assist LAH service users with applications within the immigration rules including visitor visas, Spouse and dependent visas, straightforward EU Settlement Scheme applications, extensions of leave and Settlement and British citizenship applications, offering advice on non-complex immigration rules and regulations, and explaining to LAH service users the relevant procedures, helping them to complete application forms and gather necessary supporting documents.

Main duties and responsibilities
● Efficiently responding to LAH service users' inquiries while creating a friendly, warm, and welcoming environment
● Providing one-to-one specialist high-quality immigration advice at OISC Level 1 on basic immigration matters, including visitor visas, Spouse and dependent visas, straightforward EU Settlement Scheme applications, extensions of leave to remain, Settlement and British citizenship applications, providing guidance on eligibility and ensuring LAH service users understand their rights and obligations
● Representing LAH service users by completing straightforward application forms, such as visa and leave to remain applications, and assisting them in gathering and preparing the necessary documentation for their applications, maintaining professional conduct with LAH service Users at all times
● Liaising with the Home Office and other relevant authorities on behalf of LAH service users for non-complex matters and submitting high standard applications to the Home Office
● Assisting LAH service users with correspondence related to their applications or immigration status
● Recognising when a case is beyond the scope of OISC Level 1 authorisation, such as appeals, asylum cases, or more complex immigration matters, and referring these to higher-level advisers or solicitors
● Operating within professional boundaries, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times
Monitoring and Evaluation
● Maintaining accurate records and case files, ensuring all advice and actions are properly documented, adhering to OISC Code of Standards and AQS
● Overseeing administrative systems for case management and partaking external file reviews and supervision as instructed, tracking workload, and monitoring submitted applications and their outcomes
● Assisting in demonstrating the impact of our work by recording clear and detailed case notes in our database and tracking outcomes against project targets, identifying challenges and issues affecting the LAH community, all of which will be used to inform our provision
● Providing LAH management with necessary information on the Immigration Advice service, including case studies, detailed reports, and relevant data when required
Professional Development
● Participating in learning and evaluation sessions with partner organisations as relevant
● Attending regular staff and other team meetings as required
● Undertaking OISC Level 2 training procured by LAH
● Staying current with legislative changes and policy updates affecting individuals' rights to remain in the UK, and adhering to best practices set by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) and Advice Quality Standard (AQS)
Other Accountabilities
● Ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with LAH's policies and procedures as well as with the OISC and AQS Code of Standards
● Participating in regular one-to-one sessions for both service and professional development purposes, including regular supervision to assess the quality standard of advice work
● Working closely and collaboratively with other advisers, staff team members, interns, trainees, and volunteers as needed to address the holistic needs and circumstances of LAH service users
● Supporting the preparation for audits by the OISC and AQS, as well as for internal and external reports
● Collaborating with the Head of Operations to ensure the smooth running of the service and implement an efficient administrative strategy
● Conducting workshops and presentations on immigration matters as instructed
● Assisting in creating, maintaining, and distributing relevant informational materials and resources for both the team and service users

The role is running until the 10 th of January 2025 and offers a hybrid working model, with 3 days per week based on-site and the remainder remote.
Key Responsibilities for this role include:
- Managing a large caseload, providing coordinated practical support and advice, assisting students with complex needs and co-occurring conditions, identifying appropriate and individualised support packages, including reasonable adjustments.
