The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Director, London to lead our fundraising and outreach in London and the United Kingdom. The Director will oversee a talented and dynamic team in the London office and will report to the Managing Director of Development and Outreach for Northern and Central Europe.
The successful candidate will mobilize support from donors and prospects in London and the broader United Kingdom, including the London Committee – a network of close supporters – at a truly critical time. The Director will be charged with nurturing, stewarding, and growing HRW’s donor base and presence in close collaboration with the London based Development staff.
The successful candidate will be expected to work from the London office at least 2 days per week. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the strategic plan, budget, and income forecast for a fundraising strategy in London and to the extent required, the broader United Kingdom;
- Seek and secure philanthropic commitments from a personal portfolio of individual, trust and Foundation donors, with a focus on donors capable of multi-year and six-figure commitments;
- Identify and develop strategic fundraising and outreach initiatives, fostering engagement and cultivation of major gift prospects, including planned giving and cultivation events to enhance program visibility and increase fundraising results;
- Work in collaboration with London Committee leadership and members, as well as London-based Board members, to implement initiatives aimed at maximizing fundraising results, including assisting the London Development staff in executing an annual or bi-annual fundraising event;
- In partnership with the Institutional Giving Team, research, identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit prospective foundations and existing foundations that have the ability and affinity to contribute six-figure gifts to HRW;
- Represent the work of HRW to existing and prospective supporters;
- Deliver sustainable growth and meet or exceed agreed-upon financial targets;
- Oversee income tracking, projections, expenditure budgets, event expenses, and revenue, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources within the budget;
- Act as Administrator of the charitable entity in the UK, currently known as the HRW UK Charitable Trust; and
- Perform any other responsibilities as required.
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, motivation, and mentorship, to the London Development team by setting clear expectations, performance objectives, and providing regular and constructive feedback;

Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field such as international relations, social sciences, or related studies is required. An advanced degree in philanthropy, business, finance, communications/marketing, or law is desirable but not required - we encourage candidates with the requested fundraising experience to apply even if they do not have an advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of fundraising experience with major and leadership level donors, including at least five years of management experience, is required.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated success in creating and managing major and leadership gift programs, as well as extensive experience in building and maintaining high-level donor relationships and personally soliciting six and seven figure gifts is required.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams ensuring motivation and high-performance levels, is required. Experience overseeing fundraising strategy around events is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including strong presentation abilities, are required.
- Proven experience in budgeting, revenue tracking, and projections are required.
- Strong technological skills, including familiarity with Salesforce or other relational databases are highly desirable.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within the organization and with external partners is required.
- Strong commitment to human rights and/or international issues, with the ability to represent and advocate for the mission and programs of the organization is required.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with self-motivation, independence, and the ability to work both individually and as part of a development team is required.
- Sound knowledge of the London philanthropic community is preferred.
Other: Occasional evening and weekend work to staff fundraising events will be required. Infrequent travel, domestic and international, will also be required.

Job purpose
We are looking for an experienced digital communications professional to play a key role in improving our digital communications. Reporting to the head of communications, marketing and digital, the role will oversee the development of a new RCVS Knowledge website, developing our use of user data and insights and managing the development of engaging content.
As project manager for the RCVS Knowledge website development from discovery to launch, you will be working closely with your colleagues in our small and friendly communications team, as well as with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to help us realise our vision of a well-designed, user-friendly website which meets the needs of all our audiences.
You will ensure that we have a shared understanding of our requirements across the RCVS Knowledge team and with the supplier, and that these requirements are informed by audience data and insights. In addition, you will also take the lead on auditing our current site content and developing a strategy for developing relevant, high-quality content in time for launch and beyond.
You will have recent, relevant experience of leading website developments of significant size and complexity, with a passion for user-centred design and creating high-quality content.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact between RCVS Knowledge and the digital agency, and internally with the website project stakeholders.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure user needs are understood, manage the development of the project plan, establish regular meetings to share progress and seek input and deliver to agreed timescales.
- Develop website goals and KPIs which support the RCVS Knowledge communications, marketing and digital strategy.
- Manage documentation for project governance as needed, including issues and risk logs.

The Role
As Trust Fundraising Manager you will secure new funding opportunities and work on a pool of warm and cold charitable Trusts with a focus on the £10,000 to £40,000 range. The role involves researching and qualifying prospects, submitting high quality funding applications and stewarding existing donors effectively. It will also involve managing reporting deadlines and matching potential donors to projects needing to be fundraised for, collaborating with our Service Teams.
You will prepare applications and reports to trusts and foundations, in line with funder deadlines, keeping in touch with donors and prospects via phone, virtually and face to face. You will match potential donors with projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach.
The person
You will have experience of: Securing funding from Trusts with excellent writing and presentation skills; Solid prospect research skills to identify new funding opportunities and maintain a forward pipeline of applications; Of working collaboratively with Service Teams to package and cost project areas; Stewardship of warm funders including preparing donor reports, reviewing financial reports and gathering case studies. You will also have strong time management skills with ability to manage and prioritise your workload and ideally experience of using a CRM for Trust Fundraising.

An exciting role for a data-savvy and highly motivated candidate with strong technical expertise to help increase Global Canopy's impact by making world-leading environmental and financial data more accessible to our key audiences in the finance sector, business, government and civil society.
The role requires strong data engineering and data management skills, as well as strong analytical and strategic thinking.
The role will focus in particular on the ENCORE tool which helps governments, central banks, financial institutions and businesses assess their nature-related risks and impacts around the world.
To be successful in this role, these are the things that will matter the most:
- Strong professional experience in data management/engineering, including skills for pooling and organising different datasets together.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual development skills with both an eye for detail and accuracy and an ability to see the bigger picture, including Global Canopy's role in the sustainable finance landscape.
- A strong drive to understand financial institutions and corporates' needs in financial risk assessment and ways to maximise impact on their sustainable behaviour.
Desirable attributes:
- Coding in Python and/or R and/or Matlab.
