Action for Conservation is a grassroots charity with a mission to bring the magic of nature into young people’s lives, inspiring a youth movement committed to conservation, restoration and to the Earth. We use pioneering approaches to inspire and empower young people from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 12 and 24, to become the next generation of environmental leaders. We're looking to appoint a Programme Coordinator based along the South East Coast to help us expand our work in the region and deliver our programmes for young people.

Hours: 35 hours per week. Regular evening and weekend work, including residential work, will be required. Time off in lieu (TOIL) can be taken for overtime worked.

About the role
As South East Programme Coordinator, you will be responsible for delivering our core programmes in your region. Through your work, you will inspire and support young people to connect with nature in new and exciting ways and gain new environmental knowledge and skills, and will empower them to have a voice on environmental issues they care about and take action for nature.
You will plan and lead a wide range of sessions for and with young people indoors (including in schools), outdoors and online. You will also support young people to design and deliver environmental action projects that benefit nature and their local communities and create platforms for young people to share their voices and influence decision-making. You will look after all practical and administrative aspects of programme delivery as well as play a vital role in inspiring, empowering and supporting young people both during and outside of activities. You will also formally act as our Blue Mentor for the Blue Influencers Scheme, a match-funded programme for environmental youth social action, funded by The Ernest Cook Trust and the #iwill Fund.
This role sits across programme coordination and administration on one hand and programme delivery on the other. The proportion of each varies throughout the year, with a busy spring and summer season of activities leading into a quieter, desk-based autumn and winter season as we plan and get ready for the year ahead. In total across the year, you can expect to lead or support the delivery of four to six Ambassador events (usually day-long with a 2-day residential graduation), two 5-day residential summer camps, and around 25 (half-day) sessions at secondary schools or youth groups in your regional (plus additional sessions as needed to support your colleagues with their session delivery).
To be successful in the role, you will be highly organised, proactive, self-reliant and a skilled facilitator who can engage and build positive relationships with young people in a range of settings. You will have prior experience of delivering events and activities for and with young people and, ideally, relevant experience of programme coordination and administration.
Main duties
Support young people to engage in our programmes and learn about, connect with and take action for nature
- Recruit a diverse range of schools, youth groups and young people to take part in our programmes and act as Blue Influencers, with a particular focus on young people experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation.
- Create exciting content and educational materials for young people.
- Plan and deliver events and activities that help young people to connect with nature, develop their environmental knowledge and skills and take action in their communities, with a particular focus on coastal, marine and riverine environmental issues.
- Support and mentor young people to imagine, plan and deliver environmental action projects to tackle issues that are important to them, with a particular focus on projects that benefit blue spaces.
- Support young people to partner with local community organisations to embed their projects within the community and maximise learning, connection and impact.
- Lay the groundwork for our first coastal Intergenerational Action Site, bringing together young people, conservationists, local stakeholders and community members through our ‘gold standard’ approach to intergenerational nature restoration and decision-making.
Lead on programme coordination and support with safety, evaluation and communications
- Be responsible for the general coordination and manage the logistics to deliver our programmes in your region.
- Manage risk, health and safety and safeguarding during programme activities.
- Ensure Blue Influencer projects meet the Ernest Cook Trust’s and #iwill Fund’s funding criteria and are administered in line with the due diligence guidance.
- Support the evaluation of our programmes and report on outcomes.
- Help us to grow and manage our network of volunteers in your region.
- Share stories of the young people you work with and support young people to directly share their stories through social media, YouTube, blogs, articles, talks and other channels.
- Help us to expand our network of local community partners that are actively looking to engage more young people.

We are looking for a passionate Freedom Team Leader to be responsible for day to day running of Freedom, a pet fostering service for individuals fleeing domestic abuse, in North East of England.
About this role:
As Freedom Team Leader, you’ll:
- Support pets and their owners through the referral and placement process, assessing the dogs and matching them with fosterers where appropriate.
- Recruit, manage and work closely with our wonderful volunteer fosterers, providing them with ongoing support, veterinary cover and advice throughout their placement,
- Work closely with the management team to promote the service offer, building relationships with owners and referral organisations, such as refuges and abuse support services.
Please note, this role is being offered as a fixed term, adoption leave cover for 12 months, until approx. October 2025.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you’ll need significant experience of assessing and handling a variety of dogs in a rescue or rehoming centre environment, while also having a good understanding of domestic abuse and the problems faced by individuals fleeing domestic abuse with pets. A large part of this role involves driving and/or transporting dogs in a small van across the region daily, so candidates should have experience of driving as part of a previous role.

About the team:
The Outreach team runs several projects supporting pet owners who are homeless or in housing crisis in the UK, including Freedom, a pet fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse. Most referrals come from women fleeing domestic abuse via women-only services. The service places dogs into volunteer foster homes on a temporary basis until their owners are able to be reunited with them. The Freedom Project runs in Greater London and the Home Counties, Yorkshire, the North East, the North West, East Anglia, Scotland, Wales, and Hampshire.
This role is homebased but will involve significant travel across North East England and to other Freedom areas when required. Due to the nature of this role, this post is for women only and is exempt under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. A basic Disclosure & Barring Service Check (DBS) will be required for this role.

Essential Criteria:

Living Wage Foundation
The Living Wage Foundation was launched in 2011 by Citizens UK to tackle in-work poverty and ensure that workers earn enough to live on and participate in family and community life. Citizens UK is the home of community organising with diverse civil society alliances set up to develop leaders to work on the issues that matter to them, such as the Living Wage. Other projects include PACT (Parents and the Community Together) and Sponsor Refugees to add depth to the impact of Citizens UK’s work.
The Living Wage is a movement of businesses, organisations and people who believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. The real Living Wage is an independently-calculated hourly rate based on the cost of living and announced each November during Living Wage Week, our annual celebration of a growing network of almost 12,000 Living Wage Employers.
The Living Wage Foundation celebrates employers that voluntarily choose to pay the real Living Wage through an accreditation scheme that recognises a long-term commitment to fair pay and has secured pay rises for 400,000 low paid workers.
Purpose
The Living Wage Foundation has an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team as a Project Manager. We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual with the ability to build relationships with employers across the Living Wage network.
The Project Manager will be responsible for driving forward our Living Pension standard. The standard was launched in March 2023, t and is a voluntary savings target independently calculated to provide enough income to meet every day needs in retirement.
The ideal candidate would be a proactive and experienced project manager with outstanding communication skills and a track record of network building. We are looking for someone who will expand Living Pension and grow this new accreditation with Living Wage employers and raise awareness of the standard, particularly in the business community.
The role will also involve working with our programme team to increase their knowledge and skills in the Living Pensions standard, enabling them to generate leads and deliver support and guidance to employers looking to implement a Living Pension for their workforce.
The Living Wage Foundation has grown significantly and continues to evolve its offer to employers. There will be opportunities in this role to get involved in other areas of work and projects aimed at mobilising employers to tackle poverty and deliver change in the UK and globally.
Main Responsibilities
Citizens UK & Living Pension Strategy

Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the purpose of the Living Pension, Living Wage Foundation, and the core mission of CUK

Reliably implement CUK’s policies, procedures & values in the delivery of projects
Project Management

Build, manage and grow Living Pension to scale, growing the number of employers offering a Living Pension alongside the real Living Wage

Continually enchance and iterate accreditation standard, KPIs and milestones and improve documentation, CRM systems (including Salesforce) and web journeys

Develop and implement strategies to grow accreditations in specific sectors and regions to deliver the Living Wage Foundation’s business plan objectives

Learning & Expertise

Keep up to date on latest Living Pension policy issues and support development and communication of Living Pension criteria to ensure that the Living Wage Foundation is responsive to the needs of employees and employers

External Relationship Management

Develop and nurture relationships with new and existing employers and other external stakeholders to promote and grow the Living Pension

Identify and develop strategic partnerships with a range of stakeholders including pension providers, industry bodies, project partners and funders to support the Foundation’s work

Coordinate and manage the Living Pension Steering Group, including set up and minuting of meetings and provide reporting and updates to stakeholders
Communications

Represent the organisation effectively at meetings, events and conferences to promote the benefits of the Living Pension and wider Living Wage initiatives and standards

Provide stakeholders with regular comms; ensuring that their needs are met with timely, appealing, comms materials

Organise employer events to celebrate and grow our network of Living Pension employers, including playing an active role in the delivery of Living Wage Week every year

Collate case studies and examples of best practice to develop materials and promote the Living Pension and other Living Wage initiatives

Right now, our Old Moat Garden Centre in Epsom is looking for a Horticultural Trainer to join the team. An integral part of the local community, we provide retail and horticultural services to the public and training and work-based opportunities to adults with mental ill health. But it’s only possible with the help of people like you.
Day-to-day, you’ll assist with the supervision and training of the people we support and contribute to the development of the service. We’ll also rely on you to open the centre and serve customers to enable the sale of plants and associated products during selected bank holidays and weekends. Providing horticultural advice and maintaining all plant stock in good condition will be important too, as will helping to assess risk and getting involved in team evaluations and reviews. And, when it comes to promoting an environment of service user involvement and recovery, again, you’ll be there, ready and willing to play your part.
As well as a proven ability to motivate and train others, including running group activities, you’ll need good time management skills and a creative yet practical approach to problem-solving. We’ll also be looking for lots of initiative and an enthusiastic, flexible and innovative approach to work. A commitment to working with people with mental health problems is, of course, a given, while a flair for maintaining appropriate records and implementing new procedures is also essential.
