Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as Director of Resources, Director of Finance, or a similar role.
- Fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
- In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles, laws, and best practices.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple business functions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strategic thinking skills.

Your new role
- Reporting to the Management Accountant.
- Producing regular monthly journals, including intercompany recharges, accruals and prepayments etc.

- Undertaking preliminary variance analysis between budgets, forecasts and actuals and drafting variance commentary.
- Calculating, recording, monitoring and payment of grants.
- Investigating discrepancies and unexpected variances, making corrections if required.
- Undertaking ad-hoc analysis.
- Assisting in review and preparation of phased budgets, financial plans and forecasts and loading budgets and forecasts into SAP.
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong Excel skills and experience with manipulating large volumes of data.
- Experience of working in the finance function of a large organisation, including in a management accounting context.
- Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and basic accounting adjustments such as accruals, prepayments and fixed assets.
- Either part-qualified or looking to start studying.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to prioritise, remain calm under pressure, meet deadlines and have a flexible approach to work.

Exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a world renowned international humanitarian charity during a time of growth and expansion. The successful individual will play a central role in helping the organisation be more effective and efficient. You will work towards these ambitions through developing and implementing changes to finance processes and systems. This will be achieved by leading on a portfolio of improvement projects. In addition, the role-holder will use their skills in Excel, accounting software and reporting to provide ad hoc support to the finance team by identifying and implementing iterative improvements to finance processes and systems where needed.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Design of an effective and sustainable process for a purchase to pay procedure, which includes the payments of expenses and credit cards (seeking significant improvements to current procedures).
- Developing a business case for possible new systems which may be required to deliver new procedures.
- Working with the fundraising team to improve the flow of data between the fundraising database and finance system, including ensuring the coding structure is fit for purpose.
- Commission a review of tax and residency compliance for payrolled staff by working with HR and extemal advisors.
- Assist with embedding knowledge of new processes with relevant non-finance teams / colleagues in relation to key taxation compliance areas, especially relating to fundraising and HR activities.
- Documentation of Finance procedures, as well as the communication, implementation and embedding of policies and processes within finance and the wider office.
- Provide support from the finance function to the fundraising team during the fundraising team's project to introduce a legacy administration database and associated processes.

- Leading the Financial Accounts Team (currently 4 staff) with 2 direct reports
- Producing the annual statutory accounts and leading the statutory audit process for the CIUK Group (comprising the UK charity and its trading subsidiary)
- Managing efficient and effective treasury management including robust and timely cash flow forecasting
- Supervising the controls and processes that support effective management of the balance sheet including balance sheet reconciliations
- Managing good quality accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Managing tax for the charity and trading subsidiary including VAT returns and Gift Aid
- Providing financial accounting advice to colleagues across the organisation in line with the requirement of the Charity SORP
Who are we looking for?
- A formally qualified accountant with relevant experience of financial accounting gained in a complex organisation
- Someone with experience of producing year end statutory accounts in Charities SORP format, preparing and adhering to year end timelines and being a key point of contact for auditors
- An excellent communicator who is able to influence at all levels within the organisation
- Analytical with good judgement and decision making capability
