The Sherborne is a newly established arts destination funded by the exceptional generosity of Michael and Sally Cannon. Set within the beautifully restored Grade 1 Georgian Sherborne House, The Sherborne offers a multifunction art gallery and studio space, a state-of-the-art Pavilion for events, performances and film, a restaurant, bar, shop, workspace and a sculpture garden in a natural amphitheatre. Plans are in hand to add a community and educational facility.
About the role
We seek a dynamic Chief Executive to lead its strategic and operational vision. The successful candidate will be responsible for devising, implementing and leading a comprehensive five-year strategic (2024-2029) business plan, ensuring the commercial activities and fundraising efforts underpin the artistic and cultural programme within defined financial parameters.

We address some of the most pressing national and global threats to health and wellbeing including climate change, human rights abuses, militarism, nuclear weapons, institutional racism, and rising health and social inequality. We are a member-led organisation, and our members are made up of people who work in health and social care including nurses, doctors, midwives, and clinical researchers. We strive to embed anti-oppressive politics in our work and governance.
Medact has grown significantly over the last five years and is in an exciting new period as an organisation. As we develop our next five-year strategy we are looking to refine our campaigning and organising practice and grow our membership base to secure long lasting victories in our campaigns for health justice.
About the role
The new Executive Director will be responsible for leading the organisation in developing a new strategy to guide us through the next phase growth, while leading the team through an new political climate.
Grants fundraising is of particular importance to the role, and the successful candidate will be the lead person responsible for securing funding for our campaigning and organising work and maintaining strong relationships with donors.
Our Executive Director will lead an experienced team and an organisation that deeply values collaborative working, consultative decision making, and a commitment to transparency.
About you
We are looking for someone who is passionate about addressing health, climate, racial and economic injustice and the health impacts of conflict and militarisation, and who understands the vital role that health professionals have in making the connections between these issues and working for peace, to make the world a better, fairer and safer place.
You will have an understanding of the national and international framework within which Medact operates, and you will be able to demonstrate that your values and politics align with those of our organisation. Ideally you will have experience of working in health or with health workers, so that you have an appreciation of the culture within which they work and the potential of their contribution.
You will have strong leadership skills so that, valuing the collaborative approach of our team and respecting varying views, you are able to arrive at clear decisions. You will also have a track record in fundraising in similar fields and a good knowledge of a range of potential supporters.

The person we are looking for will:

Have 10+ years of experience of People & Culture and DEIB experience, particularly in the non-profit/charity/social impact space.

Hold at least 5 years of experience in a legal counsel or similar role, advising on HR-related legal matters.

Possess a Juris Doctor (JD) and be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Have significant experience in nonprofit law, including the development, review, and negotiation of contracts, compliance with relevant regulations, and governance.

Be a people-focused leader with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for fostering positive, inclusive workplaces.

Be committed to actively cultivating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.

Have a track record of successfully developing and implementing people strategies that align with organisational goals.

Accountabilities
1. Strategic Partnerships Development:

Work closely with the senior leadership and development team to embed a long-term partnerships strategy.

Take overall responsibility for Big Change’s income, driving the growth of a portfolio of partners that sets us up to achieve our mission, pre-empting and thoughtfully managing any tension between commercial and impact drivers.

Qualify, develop, and manage relationships with strategic partners across the system, including complementary delivery partners, trusts, foundations, businesses, non-profit organisations and governmental agencies.

Work with leaders in each area of the organisation to develop a strong model for partnerships linked to impact.

Lead the creation of partnerships that enable experimentation and launch new ventures and projects.

2. Pipeline Development:
