About the role
Advocates support people to express their views, understand their rights and make informed decisions. Much of their work is with some of the most vulnerable in our society who cannot speak up for themselves and have no family members or friends who can do so. Most of what we do operates within the legislative frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Mental Health Act and NHS Health Complaints process.
We are looking to recruit a permanent multi-skilled advocate to join our Berkshire team, working a minimum of 21 hours per week, up to 37 hours considered, starting salary £23,314 per annum, pro rata.
The post is multi-disciplinary and will cover all forms of advocacy.
What we need from you
Putting people at the heart of what you do, you will work with people from across our communities. How you work will depend on each individual so the ability to communicate in a variety of ways, verbally and non-verbally, with clients and professionals, is key to success.
You may or may not have direct experience of this in your own life, or in another role, or have relevant qualifications but this isn’t a problem as we can offer training. We’re looking for people who are creative, flexible and organised, able to balance direct work with people with important administrative tasks.
As this role is home based with regular travel, mainly but not exclusively in the Berkshire area, you must be based in Berkshire or surrounding counties, you must have access to both a stable home broadband service, good mobile signal, a clean driving licence and your own transport as well as flexibility with working hours.

You will collaborate closely with our internal colleagues to enhance the availability of clinical trials. Your work will involve analysing policy issues, identifying solutions, and preparing briefing documents for senior colleagues.
Engagement with a variety of stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, and people with MND, is key. You will also liaise with organisations such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and NHS England, communicating the MND Association's positions through policy papers, briefings, and reports.
Additionally, you will support our public affairs and campaigning efforts. This includes conducting research, producing policy reports, and organising consultation meetings, seminars, and conferences.
What are we looking for?
A knowledgeable and experienced professional with a solid understanding of the policy environment governing access to treatments and healthcare models. Familiarity with organisations like NICE, MHRA, and NHS England is essential.
You will have a proven track record in analysing and addressing policy issues related to research, treatment access, and social support. Experience in conducting outcome-focused policy research and developing policy initiatives is crucial.
Excellent communication, reporting, negotiating, and influencing skills are necessary, alongside strong analytical abilities to comprehend complex policy matters and devise solutions.
You must be skilled at planning, managing tasks, and meeting tight deadlines, working both independently and as part of a team. A quick learner who can master new policy areas swiftly, you should also share our commitment to achieving social change and inclusion in line with the MND Association's vision and mission.

The Finance Officer will be a key member of the Finance Transactions Team and will undertake a varied and interesting range of Purchase ledger and Rents tasks.
Purchase ledger duties will include the processing of invoices, query resolution and the preparation and execution of the weekly payments runs. The role will support the Rents Finance function and will assist with the timely posting of customer payments and adjustments onto the Housing Management system.
Full time role, hybrid working 2 days form Head Office

What you'll do:
Process invoices onto the system, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and authorised as per current Standing Orders
Scan invoices onto the system or prepare for manual payment
Prepare and post the weekly invoice payment files
Prepare the weekly BACS and manual payment runs
Prepare petty cash reimbursements
Monitor the Purchase ledger mailbox, ensuring that queries and arising actions are dealt with, and invoices are registered on the system in a timely manner
Prepare month end accruals and reconciliations as required
Act as cover for the Rents function in ensuring rent adjustments are posted to Customer accounts in as per the required timescales
Act as cover for the Rents function in ensuring customer payment files including Standing orders, Housing Benefit and Allpay are posted to customer accounts in as per the required timescales
Prepare and post weekly rent interface files, update the bank reconciliation and monitor the Rents mailbox.
Run month end reports and extract information as required.
Work flexibly and co-operatively as part of the team and the Finance Department

The Finance team is currently supporting with some major change and transformation projects, as well as undergoing significant changes to their own ways of working to ensure they can deliver a high-quality finance service which meets the needs of the organisation. This includes undertaking a Finance Transformation Programme to help Finance develop their service (replacing an ageing finance system as well as associated process improvement and changes to ways of working).
Your new role Partnering with budget holders in the Central Services area which will include finance, HR, procurement, legal, communications. You will provide accurate and timely management information, budget monitoring, analysis and advice to budget holders and key stakeholders, fostering a culture of financial accountability and cost efficiency. You will also provide relevant challenge and insight to support decision-making and ensure that budgets and forecasts reflect objectives and strategy.
- Building strong relationships with senior managers and budget holders and work with them to develop a deep understanding of activities, priorities and business, including identifying key risks and opportunities
- Providing constructive challenge to hold budget holders to account for financial performance
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience gained from working as a finance business partner covering all aspects of budgeting, forecasting and management reporting
- Experience of providing commentary and analysis to senior colleagues
You will be a qualified Accountant
Very strong excel skills - ideally including excel modelling or ability to learn

Action Bladder Cancer UK is looking to raise the profile of Bladder Cancer, one of the UK's most common cancers. However, Bladder cancer doesn't have the profile like others, so symptoms get missed or overlooked, making diagnosis often too late.
As the Public Affairs person, you will develop and execute effective public affairs strategies to influence policy decisions, legislative processes, and public perceptions with a focus on policy proposals, government engagement, and advocacy efforts. This is a key role where you could have a genuine impact on the awareness of, attitudes to, and treatment of bladder cancer in the UK and be part of real change.
To be considered, you will need:
Demonstrable experience and achievements in public affairs, government relations, policy analysis or related roles with a charity or as a consultant;
Possess strong and current experience of health policy issues – knowledge of cancer policy issues would be highly advantageous;
Able to communicate persuasively to a range of audiences and have excellent communication and engagement skills ;
Have a strong understanding of Westminster and the UK political and health sector landscape, with a good understanding of legislative and health regulatory process;
