About The Role
The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Builders to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and confident people who are passionate about collaborating with communities in the design and delivery of interventions that bring and connect people together to strengthen networks within the local community. Working closely with Community Development Managers across regions within the UK, the Community Builders will play a vital role in helping to improve lives for Armed Forces Community members by creating a supportive environment that allows them to re-engage and connect with the services at Help for Heroes and with the wider community.
The main purpose of this role is to connect local people through their skills, passions and assets and support the creation of new connections, bringing people together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. This will include listening to different points of views, building relationships and motivating people to work together and create their own action influenced by their interests and skillsets to positively impact local communities and help them to flourish.
About You
You will have experience leading and facilitating the mobilisation of local communities, asset mapping, bringing together people for engagement that matters to them. You will have knowledge and experience of Asset Based Community Development work, outreach methods and you will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to animate local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outreach to drive local connection, engagement and participation opportunities for the AFC
- Develop and embed an ABCD informed way of work
- Asset map
- Organise and facilitate community meetings to share ideas, encourage collective decision making and build a sense of belonging
- Encourage and pilot community lead action in response to local AFC needs/interests through peer led/co-designed initiatives
- Increase awareness of the challenges faced by military personnel, veterans and their families
PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidates will need to be based within an hour’s commute of their allocated locality and there is a requirement to travel within a 75-mile radius of this location (travel expenses covered). Flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.
We are looking for someone with the following:
- A Community Development qualification and/or at least 3 years' experience working within a community development or similar role, with responsibility for bringing about social change and improving quality of life
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships which lead to actions
- Demonstrable experience within an integrated multi-disciplinary service
- Experience of engaging and working collaboratively with partners/stakeholders
About the Team
You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

The Community Fundraising team at Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is responsible for securing income from individuals, regional businesses and groups fundraising in the community, effectively managing relationships to maximise income.
The Regional Fundraising Officer role will play a significant part in contributing to a high-performing fundraising team. The role will cover the North East & Yorkshire regions.
You will report to the Community Fundraising Manager and support the Head of Regional Fundraising to drive the continued growth of the charity’s community fundraising income in your area. You will also be required to show excellent relationship-building skills to support community partnerships and volunteer groups, driving towards agreed targets.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Strategy, finance, and reporting
· Responsibility for 3 income streams within the region including corporate, community groups and Do It Yourself (DIY) fundraising.
· Identify and apply for ‘Charity of the Year’ partnerships with corporates in the region, account manage these relationships up to a value of £50,000 per annum and support the Partnership Development Team with partnerships in your region with a value of up to £100,000.
· Support existing volunteer fundraisers to encourage continued loyalty to the charity and to maximise funds raised, following fundraising legislation and good practice.
· Recruit new fundraising supporters in line with strategy.
· Support the Community Fundraising Manager (CFM) and Head of Regional Fundraising (HORF) in developing the Community Fundraising strategy for ARUK to increase income within this stream.
· Support and extend volunteer networks within the geographical area in line with strategy.
· To ensure that fundraising activity is implemented and managed locally to deliver budgets, targets and income in line with strategy. To achieve this by supporting and facilitating the development of groups and volunteers across the geographical area.
· Work across a diverse geographical area and within a geographically dispersed team, whilst managing own workload cost-effectively and proactively.
Supporter Management
· Provide excellent customer service to community fundraising supporters (including maintaining a polite, enthusiastic manner with prompt responses to enquiries), to acknowledge support and increase long-term loyalty.
· Provide high-quality account management to volunteer groups in geographical area.
· Effective management of volunteer relationships within geographical area.
· Support, motivate and develop local fundraising volunteers, ensuring they have a clear understanding of ARUK to enable them to represent the charity’s work effectively.
· In liaison with the Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, provide high-quality account management to corporate supporters within the specified geographical area and/or of relevant value.
· Keep up to date with fundraising legislation and codes of practice to be able to provide relevant advice to fundraisers.
· Ensure volunteers and fundraisers have all necessary materials for fundraising initiatives.
Increasing Community Support within geographical area
· Use own initiative to extend volunteer networks, develop new groups and supporters, and respond to fundraising opportunities within the geographical area, in line with strategy.
· Run volunteer events with both a recruitment and cultivation function, liaising closely with the Stewardship and Events team to ensure a seamless supporter journey, and with the Press team to include media volunteers.
· Manage the recruitment process of new ARUK volunteers in the geographical area, providing relevant support and training.
· Liaise with local community organisations (e.g., golf clubs, educational institutions etc.) – both previous and new potential supporters – to extend income and activity in line with the strategy.
· Initiate and roll out community fundraising events in the geographical area with evidence of effective ROI and achievement of strategic goals.
· Provide face-to-face talks and presentations to community organisations for recruitment/ cultivation purposes.
· Arrange appropriate volunteer representation at events in the community (for example, for cheque collections and talks), spreading the charity’s reach cost-effectively.
· Identify, research and target prospective community organisations, in liaison with CFM.
· Identify, research and target prospective local corporates in liaison with CFM / HORF and ARUK’s Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, in line with both community and corporate strategies.
· Accurately track and record contact with both community and corporate prospects for planning and reporting purposes.
Monitoring and Reporting
· Ensure that your activity is monitored and evaluated, clearly communicating progress to your Community Fundraising Manager.
· Manage relevant information on the charity’s database, keeping detailed, up-to-date records of activity and income.
What we are looking for:
· Experience in partnership fundraising and/or relationship-building.
· Experience in public speaking, such as giving presentations and talking at events.
· Knowledge of recruiting key volunteers and fundraising supporters.
· Experience and a keen interest in building long-term relationships with supporters.
· Proven ability to provide excellent stewardship.

Working to support the Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations; the Development Officer, Trusts and Foundations will help to deliver the trust and foundation fundraising strategy. The post-holder will work alongside Development colleagues to identify funding opportunities both in the UK and internationally. The post-holder will have responsibility for securing significant new funds to support the strategic priorities of our £300 million fundraising campaign which covers a wide range of areas. This work will focus particularly on proposals for four and five figure gifts.
The post-holder will assist the Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations, in cultivating currently engaged and new trusts, foundations and charities. They will work with the Senior Development Assistant (Research) to grow the pipeline of giving through research into suitable trusts and foundations whose aims are closely aligned with the strategic priorities of the University.
The post-holder will have experience of trust and foundation fundraising accompanied by a sound knowledge of university fundraising. They will be a creative and strategic thinker and possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work proactively, both internally and externally. This role will require knowledge of trust and foundation funders, excellent written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.

Who we are looking for
Our Communications Services team is seeking a talented Communications Officer, Social Media and Digital, with a background in sustainable development, science or health communications. The successful applicant will be educated to degree level with at least a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree.
You will need to be creative with the ability to produce social media campaigns, digital content and videos, and lead the development of engaging websites to tell our clients’ stories. Plus, you’ll need to be highly organised and able to juggle multiple tasks to coordinate and deliver a wide range of engaging communications materials. You should also be open to travel, as the role could require you to visit projects in Africa or Asia.
What you will do
You’ll lead our social media and digital services for international development and research organisations around the world, as well as coordinating and providing advice on a range of other communications projects – covering topics such as climate change, health, poverty reduction, social equity, agriculture, water resources management, and green cities. You’ll need to think strategically and creatively, respond effectively to emerging trends, and help our team develop and grow.
Your role will include:
- Leading social media and digital communications services: you will conceptualise, coordinate and deliver social media campaigns, videos, websites, newsletters and other digital products for our clients – leading innovative content strategies that drive engagement.
- Content creation: you will create social media content and assets, graphics, videos and animations. You will also develop design templates and mock-ups, format presentations and Microsoft Word documents, produce event materials and make website updates.
- Project management: you will be the main point of contact for specific clients and projects, gathering requests for new products and services, and coordinating content development and graphic design work with other team members to ensure that projects are delivered efficiently and effectively. - Understanding of the digital landscape, emerging trends, tools and best practices in social media and digital communications (including SEO, UI, UX, Information Architecture).
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing social media, digital and campaign strategies, and using reporting and analytics tools – with proven success in driving engagement and followers.
- Strong creative flair with a strong understanding of best-practice design principles.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and cope flexibly with a range of jobs to meet (and exceed) client expectations.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail.

Overall purpose

ROLE PURPOSE
PAN UK is the only charity in the UK focused solely on tackling the problems caused by pesticides and promoting safe and sustainable alternatives in agriculture, urban areas, homes and gardens.
We are looking for a passionate, organised, self-motivated individual with experience of corporate campaigning to lead PAN UK’s highly-impactful supermarket campaign which aims to reduce pesticide-related harms to both human health and the environment. Launched in 2019, the campaign has secured a wide range of wins from getting Tesco to ban 200 toxic pesticides from use within its global supply chains to convincing Co-op, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl to stop selling synthetic garden pesticides.
As Campaigns Officer, you will be involved in a variety of tasks including; campaign strategy development, meeting with decision-makers, providing feedback on policies, writing communications materials and running events. You do not need to have extensive knowledge of pesticide issues but must be able to pick up new, complex topics quickly and communicate them confidently.
In addition to running the supermarkets campaign, you will be an integral part of a small, high-performing team which is also working to influence national government and local councils. It should be noted that, while in its current iteration this role will focus on PAN UK’s supermarket campaign, the organisation reserves the right to change this focus in the future to another campaign focussed on reducing UK pesticide-harms to human health and the environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Campaign leadership
Advocacy
· Maintain excellent working relationships with staff from the UK’s ten largest supermarkets, while also playing the role of ‘critical friend’ by pushing them to strengthen their approach to pesticides.
· Meet regularly with individual supermarkets to discuss progress made by the company and make recommendations for further improvements.
· Provide feedback to supermarkets on their existing pesticide-related policies and recommendations for improvements, including collating comments from other PAN UK staff.
· Track progress made by supermarkets on implementing PAN UK’s recommendations by keeping thorough records.
Communications, mobilisation and events
· Work closely with PAN UK’s Head of Communications to design and launch major outputs and publications.
· Write online and offline communications (including policy documents, press releases, web pages, blogs and social media posts), paying close attention to detail including potential implications for libel.
· Create opportunities to secure media coverage for the campaign and liaise with journalists.
· Create e-actions designed to mobilise members of the public.
· Use PAN UK’s convening power to organise and run events that bring decision-makers together to discuss common obstacles and solutions.
· Give presentations and chair events on behalf of PAN UK.
Strategy
· Lead the other PAN UK staff members through regular reviews of, and updates to, supermarket campaign strategy.
· Spot key opportunities for advancing the aims of the supermarket campaign and design and implement plans for taking advantage of them.
Miscellaneous
· Develop and maintain sufficient expertise in pesticide issues to be able to speak confidently.
· Contribute to funding proposals and donor reports as and when required.
· Track expenditure and sign off significant costs in advance with the Head of Policy & Campaigns.
· Coordinate internally to ensure that all PAN UK staff are able to feed into the campaign, and that we are making best use of our extensive, internal expertise.
· Conduct occasional research and present findings accurately, including references.
· Be willing to contribute to other UK campaigns (beyond supermarkets) as required.
2. Other
· Be an active member of the UK team, attending meetings, helping out other team members as required and feeding into the team’s strategy.
· Work within PAN UK’s policies, processes and procedures at all times.
· Other duties as may reasonably be requested and commensurate with the post.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience, skills and knowledge
Essential
· At least three years’ experience of corporate campaigning to change the behaviour and or/policies of large companies.
· Excellent writing skills, including strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Experience of conducting face-to-face and online advocacy meetings with decision-makers.
· Experience of drafting a wide range of communication materials, from policy documents to social media posts.
· Ability to think strategically and experience of devising, implementing and evaluating campaign strategies and theories of change.
· Strong verbal communication skills and experience of public speaking.
Desirable
· Knowledge of relevant subject areas (including the environment, conservation, human health, sustainable farming, toxicology etc.) and an understanding of pesticides and their impacts on health and environment.
· Experience of developing policy positions and recommendations.
· Experience of using social media for advocacy.
· Experience of working with journalists to secure media coverage, including drafting press releases.
· Experience of mobilising the public, including designing and drafting e-actions.
· Experience of organising and running events.
