We exist to fund research into beating blood cancer. In the past 60 years, we’ve invested more than £500 million into blood cancer research which has led to improved treatments and saved lives. Everything we do in the next five years will be based on a single aim – to stop people dying of blood cancer or the side effects of its treatments. We want to put people affected by blood cancer at the centre of everything we do.  

We have an ambitious strategy to increase the annual investment in research. The Clinical Research Programmes Lead will lead the development and delivery of a new large-scale clinical research funding scheme. We plan to launch a major fundraising appeal focused on funding multi-arm multi-stage clinical trials testing multiple interventions, which can make a step change in the treatment of the blood cancers with the poorest survival. The role will lead the development of the scope, guidance, forms and review process for the funding call, including establishing a Funding Committee. You will work closely with colleagues in the fundraising teams to ensure we have compelling information for cases for support that will underpin the major appeal.

The role will lead on the development and delivery of new clinical research programmes, such as interventions to increase the access to clinical trials and barriers to clinical-academic careers. It will engage the clinical and research community to increase blood cancer clinical research, through workshops and providing coordination of the Blood Cancer Research Groups.

The role

You'll be responsible for providing a comprehensive technical surveying service, with a focus on effective delivery of maintenance services. The role will investigate and provide advice on the resolution of complex maintenance issues such as building disrepair, structural failure, and defect analysis, raised either internally or by our customers. You'll own the day to day technical advice on design, construction, maintenance, and repair to internal and external stakeholders, inhouse delivery teams and external contractors.

You might find it difficult to express and share how you have been affected by these events, especially to your loved one with the injury. Overwhelming feelings of guilt, helplessness, confusion and isolation are very common. 

Back Up’s Family Support team are there to help. Right from the point of injury, our Family Support Coordinators work together with the family and the injured person to create their own ‘Family Plan’ - making sure they have access to information and support throughout the rehabilitation journey.

As a Family Support Coordinator, you will build relationships with professionals to encourage referrals and manage a caseload. Young Responders is an exciting new St John Ambulance project which has been made possible by funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and awarded through Postcode Innovation Trust. The project aims to engage and empower young people from diverse communities who face the greatest health inequities to become active health citizens, through peer-to-peer learning and practical physical and mental health first aid sessions relevant to the challenges they face. Aimed at young people aged 14 to 25 (or 11 to 25 for broad access), who would not typically come through our doors. Young Responders will use existing St John young people and volunteers to deliver first aid training to young people from under-served communities. To deliver this ambition, young people and volunteers will become Community Champions who will deliver sessions that are local to young people and reflective of their needs and those of the community in which they live. The Facilitator will be responsible for directly leading and delivering first aid training sessions with community organisations and educational settings. This role will also offer pastoral support to those delivering sessions to support their welfare and wellbeing.

The Associate Director for HR Operations is an exciting and new role at the College in which you will work collaboratively with all Divisions to support a range of operational and strategic HR activities, as well as embracing and contributing to College wide projects and the enhancement of the People & Culture Division.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director for People and Culture, you will take ownership for reviewing and developing policies and processes, alongside establishing innovative approaches to ER issues, change management, managing the recruitment of key hires and championing the EDI agenda.

As Associate Director for HR Operations, you will provide enthusiastic leadership, direction and development to the HR team involved in employee relations, encouraging proactive ER interventions to ensure the increased productivity and efficiency of the College.

Partnering with department managers to identify staffing needs and developing strategies for attracting, developing and retaining top talent, you will embed organisational values as well as overseeing the recruitment and selection process, conducting interviews and making final hiring decisions.

MCIPD qualified and with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, you should have extensive knowledge of employment laws and regulations as well as proven experience of working in a trade unionised environment.

You should have a strong strategic mindset with the ability to align HR strategies with business objectives, as well as a proven ability to use management information to drive activity to improve organisational performance. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a long-term (chronic), fluctuating, neurological disease that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. M.E. affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide.

Action for M.E. is the only charity in the UK providing direct support to children and adults with M.E. We provide vital support services, campaign for change and invest in ground-breaking research to help put an end to the ignorance, injustice and neglect experienced by people with M.E. 

We are looking for an empathic and resilient individual to join a friendly and well-established team of part-time, remote-based Information and Support Officers, on a 12-month contract. The purpose of this role is to provide a holistic, client-centred, effective and efficient Information and Support Service to people affected by M.E. We do this primarily via outgoing calls made in response to triaged voicemail messages, and also via email.

You can choose to be home-based anywhere in the UK, work from our Bristol office, or a hybrid of the two.

Our Information and Support Service team has a deep understanding of the issues affecting people with M.E. and their family and carers. Some of our clients come to us in considerable distress so this work isn’t always easy, but it can be incredibly rewarding and is valued by our clients and the wider organisation.

You will need experience of working in a service providing information, advice, support or advocacy by telephone and email (or proven transferable skills). You will be experienced and confident at working with people in distress, and identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns, with the courage and emotional resilience to set and maintain realistic boundaries.

The Internal Communications Manager is a pivotal role at the College as you will help develop and shape the College’s internal communication channels to drive information sharing and engagement with the College Strategy and Values for staff.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director for People and Culture, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the employee internal communications plan to inspire, inform and engage employees with clear, consistent messages that align with the College’s mission, values and goals.

As Internal Communications Manager, you will review and develop processes and communication channels and develop the annual plan for employee communications using innovative and creative approaches to engage and support. You will tailor communications for different operational areas, ensuring messages land effectively and in a compelling and timely format.

With a foundation degree in a communication or marketing area and with a qualification or certification from a relevant body such as CIPR, you will have a proven track record in internal communications and have experience of developing and implementing successful communication strategies and campaigns to reach diverse audiences.

The role is a member of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for programme management, overseeing all aspects of the governance and operational management of the Young Lives programme, including delivery of the multimillion portfolio of grants including the £9.4m FCDO funded ‘Young Lives at Work’ project in addition to a growing portfolio of complementary research grants. To ensure successful delivery of this complex and high-profile research programme, the post-holder will demonstrate excellent leadership skills and expertise in all aspects of programmatic and operational management, working with significant independent responsibility. They will work closely with the Young Lives Director, Senior Leadership Team and Country Directors (in four study countries) to provide strategic and operational leadership of the programme and will provide support and expert advice on external representation and fundraising, including representing Young Lives to external audiences and funders (notably FCDO).

The post-holder will ensure a cutting-edge approach to monitoring, evaluation and learning across the programme; grip financial management and operational delivery; facilitate the country leads in delivery of their programmes and plans; identify issues and risks and constructively and rapidly problem solve to overcome or mitigate them; and develop and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships with funders and partners.

The post-holder will lead the Programme Management team of staff and multiple consultants, with direct line management responsibility for at least three staff members. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, they will also share responsibility for overseeing the culture and impact of the team and wider partnership, helping to get the best individually and collectively from a variety of partners with diverse personal and professional backgrounds.

As a senior professional in the Oxford Department of International Development, the post-holder will also be expected to operate in line with the overall mission and values and take every opportunity for collaboration with professional services and other research centres. The successful candidate will be educated to graduate level with a mission focused, flexible, can-do approach to work, self-motivation, resilience and will proactively seek to drive improvement and adaptation within the team.

Selection criteria

Essential selection criteria

· First degree, ideally with a professional qualification (e.g. MBA, DMS or Qualified Accountant)

· Proven experience of leading and managing a large team and ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partner institutions, including in low and middle income countries

· Extensive programme management experience, including large scale funding proposals, financial management and project reporting

· Excellent analytical skills and the ability to assimilate and process information on a wide range of issues as well as the ability to think strategically and solve complex problems

· The ability to influence at all levels both internally and externally with experience of conducting representation and negotiations at a senior level

· Excellent time management and organisational skills; experience of working under pressure to competing deadlines and adapt to challenges quickly

· Excellent written and oral communication skills, in particular explaining technical and financial information to non-technical audiences and ability to produce user friendly financial and narrative reports

· Self-motivated, with an enthusiastic and energetic approach to leading a multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural team and ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to employ tact and discretion in building a strong team.

Desirable selection criteria

· Programme management experience of large FCDO funded programmes, including developing logframes, theories of change and risk registers.

· Knowledge of University of Oxford administration and financial policies and processes

· Willingness to undertake overseas travel

About the Role

The Global Communications team is looking for a Communications Coordinator with excellent organisational, writing, and digital skills, heaps of initiative, and a passion for MSI’s mission. The role involves providing communications and administrative support to the team in order to increase the visibility and effectiveness of MSI’s work both within the organisation and with external audiences.

MSI is fast-paced and international. Our Communications Coordinator will have an interesting and varied workload and will be supported to take on key responsibilities. On a day-to-day basis, they can expect to liaise with team members from all parts of the organisation, including its overseas programmes, as well as working closely with other members of the team.
