Right now, one of our partners, Aquarius is looking for a Drug and Alcohol Practitioner to join their Bedfordshire Young People’s Team. Aquarius helps young people aged 5-18 overcome the harm caused by drugs and alcohol by working closely with the individual, family members and other professionals. But it’s only possible with the help of people like you.

Your challenge? – To provide information and advice, brief interventions and long-term structured interventions to support young people who are using drugs and alcohol or being impacted by someone else’s use.  You will be conducting assessments, risk assessments, care-planning and working directly with other services such as schools, social care, mental health services and youth offending.The successful candidate must have exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work with other agencies both face to face, email and via telephone.

An energetic and confident self-starter, you will be required to hold a qualification in health/social care, youth and community work (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies). Alternatively, we’ll consider candidates with experience of working in the substance misuse field . As well as good knowledge of alcohol/drug and health related issues, you will be used to liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals and comfortable engaging with clients in a variety of service delivery settings. You will have a flexible approach, a commitment to the principles of confidentiality, excellent record keeping and  a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

As this role requires travelling around Bedford, you will also need to have a clean driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This is a full-time role requiring the post holder to work 37 hours per week.

On 1st June 2024 Richmond Fellowship merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. Location: This is a hybrid role between in-office/ home working. There is expectation to be physically present in office 60% working week, on average.

Citizens Advice Bury & Bolton (CABB) is a leading provider of legal advice and information, supporting thousands of clients every year. The Welfare Benefits Supervisor will have a detailed understanding of Welfare Benefits advice in order to provide detailed technical support to the Welfare Benefits team and other teams within CABB. There will also be some requirement to provide direct advice to clients.
The Welfare Benefits Supervisor will undertake the following responsibilities:

• Ensure high quality advice by actively listening to/ shadowing advice sessions and conducting independent file reviews,
• Develop team expertise in line with individual training plans and supervisions,
• Provide training and support to develop members of staff,
• Work towards, and maintain technical supervisor standards through a structured training plan,
• Actively contribute to the working of the Welfare Benefit team with solutions and ideas to support the running of the team,

To be successful in this role you will be able to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, exhibit excellent listening and questioning skills and to present and conduct yourself in a professional manner.

You will liaise with contacts across various agencies to find resolutions for escalated issues and you will understand the importance of security and data protection to ensure all data is protected in line with GDPR legislation. You will have a good standard of numeracy and be proficient in the use of computer packages with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will have an open and friendly demeanour and be able to work as part of a diverse team.

About this key role

As our specialist worker you will provide peer supervisory support to the team within the wider hospital based services, which includes deputising for the Senior Caseworker, and supporting the Data Coordinator and Senior Caseworker with the collation of information and data for project monitoring purposes. We will also count on you to develop and maintain strong relationships with clinicians and hospital staff, while also identifying onward referral pathways with other services in the hospital such as CAMHS, IDVA, COMPASS and other statutory and voluntary sectors in the community.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will also help to identify and assess young victims of violence and to provide support, advice and advocacy for both them and their families as they plan to be discharged from hospital back into the community. You will produce support and risk management plans based on your assessments and deliver a holistic support service that includes practical help such as social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, ETE options, benefits work, appearing in court, DIY work and cleaning.

What we are looking for

• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families.
• Experience in working as part of a multi-agency team, working together to achieve positive outcomes for young people and establishing links to further the aims of a project.
• Experience of using support plans to enable people to successfully access support services.
• Substantial experience of engaging successfully with ‘challenging’ young people.
• Proven experience of working in a high intensity environment.
• A working knowledge of relevant services for young people and their families in the service provision area.
• First-class interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

If applying as a trainee the starting salary will be on NJC Scale 6 - £33,194 for the first six months whilst undertaking the training.

The post holder will be required to work across all of our offices and outreaches in Southwark according to operational needs.

The role includes:

• Providing advice to the public and undertaking casework on social welfare law issues
• Supervising advice and gateway assessment sessions
• Supporting and supervising staff and volunteers

To be successful you will need:

• Recent experience of giving advice to the public. This should include having undertaken advice casework.
• Experience of undertaking the role of Advice Session Supervisor or to demonstrate the ability to undertake this role with training provided within 6 months of starting
• To understand, empathise with and be committed to the Service’s aims, principles and equal opportunities policies

Postholders will be expected to actively contribute to service delivery rotas between these times.

Our Money Advice team provide a professional Money Advice service, which enables clients to look at income maximisation, budget planning, enforcement options open to their creditors and to find a solution for their debts

The Money Advice Supervisor will have a detailed understanding of the money advice system and funder requirements. You will be required to work across all advice channels including digital, face to face and telephone. You will also be expected to provide technical support to our Money Advice team.

The Money Advice Supervisor will undertake the following additional responsibilities:

• Ensure high quality advice by actively listening to/ shadowing advice sessions and file reviews.
• Develop team expertise in line with individual training plans and supervision
• Work towards, and maintain technical supervisor standards
• Support and actively contribute to the coordination of service delivery rotas.

To be successful in this role you will be able to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, exhibit excellent listening and questioning skills and to present and conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner with all clients seeking support.

You will liaise with contacts across various agencies to find resolutions for escalated issues and you will understand the importance of security and data protection to ensure all data is protected in line with GDPR legislation. You will have a good standard of numeracy to complete budget plans to aid the advice process and be proficient in the use of computer packages with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will have an open and friendly demeanour and be able to work as part of a diverse team.
