Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led learning programmes at HMP Birmingham. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach.
This role is prison based and will be a fixed term role until October 2025, with the opportunity to be made permanent - subject to contract renewal.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

• Income Generation & Partnership Building: Be a hands-on leader in bid writing, partnership development, and cultivating relationships with commissioners and funders.
• Team Management: Oversee and develop the Business Development team, creating plans to maximize income from targeted services, including Family and Significant Others Services, Prison Education, and NHSE initiatives.
• Business Development Delivery: Take charge of managing bids, securing funding, and expanding our services within justice and community sectors.
• Strategic Development & Networking: Represent Pact at key events and actively contribute to the organization’s leadership, working with Executive colleagues to ensure Pact’s mission is met effectively.

You will need to be highly empathetic, able to build trust and rapport effortlessly with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and confident in leading group sessions to deliver engaging and impactful support.
This role requires someone who is highly organised and capable of managing a varied workload. Solid written communication skills and proficiency in IT and MS Office are essential. Experience with case management systems is advantageous, though a demonstrated ability to learn new technology quickly is also valuable.

About the role
Reporting to Arts Development Director
Term Part-time (21 hours per week), 3-year fixed term contract (with potential for renewal, subject to funding)
Salary £16,800 (£30,000 FTE) (with the potential for extra paid hours, subject to skillset and need)
The usual hours of work will be within the envelope 9am-5pm Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend work. The specific days/times to be worked will be agreed by negotiation with the successful candidate.
Location Prospect House, Prospect Street, Barnsley, S70 2NR. This will be the primary location of work, with regular travel to venues across Barnsley routinely required along with further travel to conferences etc.
