The Opportunity:
This is a challenging yet exciting time to be joining The Kirkwood. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of Income Generation and Marketing to lead and drive our efforts in securing the vital funds that enable us to provide our essential services. We are looking for someone that will inspire supporters, encourage people to spread the word about our vital work, and continue to build The Kirkwood Movement.
The role of income generation within The Kirkwood Movement is established. However, this role represents an opportunity to truly lead with creativity and forward thinking married closely with the traditional, proven tangible activities.
Job Summary:
As the Director of Income Generation and Marketing, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative strategies to support The Kirkwood's charitable activities. Your leadership will inspire our community, increase awareness, and enhance financial and voluntary support.
The role requires strategic, long-term thinking, and you must demonstrate a proven track record of developing and implementing successful long-term income generation strategies aligned with overall fundraising goals. You should be a confident and natural leader who can clearly communicate a compelling future direction for the income generation and marketing team. Additionally, you will be a critical thinker who utilises data and trends to make informed decisions, analyses results to identify areas for improvement, and embraces a continuous learning mindset that values both successes and failures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive income generation strategy aligned with The Kirkwood's goals.
- Foster a culture of creativity to explore and implement unconventional income generation methods.
- Lead the strategy to build The Kirkwood Movement, enhancing awareness, care outreach, and inspiring support.
- Create and nurture connections within The Kirkwood Movement to deepen engagement.
- Collaborate across The Kirkwood Movement to integrate income generation opportunities into daily operations.
Executive:
- Partner with the Executive Team to devise and deliver strategies that ensure sustainable growth in care provision.
- Establish policy frameworks and operational methods that support strategic objectives.
- Uphold and promote The Kirkwood Culture and Values.
- Serve as the key advocate for donors, ensuring their interests are prioritised in all activities.
- Oversee internal and external communication strategies and represent The Kirkwood in media and public events.
- Maintain strong relationships with the Board of Trustees and lead interactions with the Income Generation & Marketing Committee.
- Support Executive Management Team members and contribute to committee activities as needed.
- Contribute to the development of the 5-year strategic plan and long-range financial forecast.
- Stay informed of best practices in the sector and integrate them into The Kirkwood.
- Manage relationships with statutory regulators to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Departmental:
- Support departmental leads in crafting and implementing strategies for Fundraising, Retail & Trading, Media & Marketing, Business Development, and Programme Development.
- Propose, monitor, and achieve ambitious annual budgets for income generation.
- Deliver an exceptional supporter experience that drives acquisition, retention, and maximises supporter lifetime value through stellar stewardship.
- Inspire and lead a motivated team, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability for income generation goals.
- Develop and deliver ambitious plans across the core spectrum of Income Generation activity that includes (but not limited to) legacy fundraising, individual giving, major donors and patronage, digital fundraising, retail footprint, corporate partnership development and community fundraising.
- Attract, recruit, and retain top talent within the income generation and marketing team, ensuring a diverse and skilled workforce.

Head of Communications
Location: The role is based at the Trust’s office in West Berkshire with a minimum of three days per week expected to be worked at our Newbury office. Flexible working arrangements are available with the understanding that this must meet the objectives of the charity and requirements of the role.
Accountable to: CEO
Start date: 11/11/2024 or as soon as possible thereafter
Hours of work: Full-time (1 FTE), Monday-Friday, permanent
Salary range: £48,000 - £58,000, depending on experience.
Purpose
Key responsibilities and duties
This is an exciting and vital role to shape and deliver a multi-channel communications strategy for a leading mental health charity, focused on supporting the systems around children and young people including parents/carers, schools, colleges and universities. The main responsibilities will include creating and overseeing the activation of the marketing strategy and using data insights and analytics to grow and develop the Trust’s reach and support. The role will also act as the guardian to the organisation’s website as the main resource and marketing hub.
The role will enable the charity to proactively grow awareness, drive engagement, enhance its public profile and shape understanding of the Charlie Waller Trust by taking an audience-first approach to communicating our impact and purpose in an engaging and strategic way.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the role requires working closely with the CEO and other heads of teams to develop and grow the marketing and communications strategy, to raise awareness of the charity’s resources and to support the generation of income through the marketing of fundraising and workplace activities. The role will also work closely with and report into the Board of Trustees.
We are looking for a strategic thinker, with experience of both traditional and digital marketing. Someone who enjoys working with data and is always on the lookout for interesting angles or new channels or tactics to test. A passion for using marketing to understand and reach new audiences is vital. An analytical eye is needed alongside an ability to be creative and a desire to share success stories to further raise awareness of the organisation and to extend its reach.
Empathy for our audience and the ability to communicate in a way that allows them to feel seen and understood is important; you will need to have strong interpersonal skills, a desire to develop and build a team and to maintain communication and relationships with others across the organisation.
Inquisitive and creative, you’ll enjoy proposing fresh ideas and approaches for marketing with a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of how marketing sits within the organisation as a whole.
Key Responsibilities and duties
Creating, leading and overseeing the delivery of the organisations marketing strategy including:
- Planning and developing the marketing strategy in line with organisational directives, new resources and initiatives.
- Overseeing strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure press coverage and increase public awareness.
- To ensure the appropriate and most effective marketing channels and tactics are used to support the programme and fundraising teams.
- Overall responsibility for the website - direction, content, consistency and tone of voice.
- Use of audience insight and data analysis to determine priorities and curate campaigns, projects and content from across the organisation.
- Development and improvement of user and supporter journeys.
- Marketing project initiation and management.
- Set and oversee marketing budgets
Strategic marketing sign-off including:
- Final sign-off on all website activity - strategy, content, SEO, landing pages and resources.
- Final sign-off of priority campaign materials - publications, newsletters, printed materials and press releases.
Internal and stakeholder communications including:
- Membership of the senior leadership and management teams.
- Assist the senior leadership team and trustees to oversee strategic and operational issues, managing risks related to communications, brand and public image.
- Quarterly marketing reporting to trustees.
- Working in partnership with other agencies on issues of common concern.
- Membership of project group (a cross-departmental group responsible for selecting, tracking and evaluating projects).
- Manage marketing agencies and freelancers to deliver work in line with the marketing strategy in an efficient and timely manner.
HR responsibilities including:
- Overseeing the recruitment to expand the marketing and communications team where required.
- Provide effective management of the communications team (5 direct line reports and 2 other staff).

The Art of Wishes and Special Events Lead will ensure Art of Wishes, a market leading flagship fundraising programme for Make-A-Wish UK that brings the art world together, is delivered and developed to outstanding standards. This key role sits within a specialised unit that fosters collaboration with a diverse range of private and public investors to channel capital into innovative financial solutions backed by Shell Foundation.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Solutions, the Financial Solutions Associate will enhance the capacity of the team, supporting Shell Foundation's investments in vehicles that direct capital toward solutions benefiting underserved populations and key customer groups. This role will play a crucial part in managing portfolio reporting and analysis for internal purposes, including Board and Senior Management reviews, as well as for external stakeholders and funding partners. A significant responsibility will be the development of a new Financial Solutions portfolio dashboard and improved management tools aligned with strategic reporting goals. We are seeking an experienced financial analyst with commercial acumen and a deep interest in impact investing.
