Volunteer Support Officer - Peer Support
Hours: 30 hours - 34.5 hours per week (this post will require some evening and weekend work)
Location: Hybrid working (a mixture of homeworking and a minimum of 40% in the office in Leeds)
Salary: £25,313.82 - £28,490.93 FTE per annum

Our Talk and Support Group service provides essential peer support ensuring that no one feels alone with their epilepsy. The service is delivered by volunteers at face to face groups across the country as well as virtually via Zoom. Our Befriending service also provides peer support though regular 1-1 chats via the phone or video call.

Together both services provide a lifeline connecting people together to share experiences and build confidence. We are currently working to expand our group network so we can reach more people across the UK.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work across both the Groups and Befriending teams supporting volunteers to deliver peer support. 

​Your main focus will be within the Groups team supporting our existing volunteers and assisting with the projects to expand the service. This will include recruiting training and inducting new virtual group volunteers.

You will also be providing cover for the befriending service when needed to ensure that whichever service someone accesses, they can get the support they need.

At Epilepsy Action we recognise the power of collaboration and teamwork, so our team members with hybrid contracts can expect to work a minimum of 40% at our office in Leeds. On average this is 2 days a week, normally on Mondays and Thursdays, for full-time employees. The expectation to collaborate face-to-face is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do which may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to help us create a world without limits for people with epilepsy.

Many of our virtual groups and volunteer meet ups run in the evening so there will be regular requirement to open meeting and provide support to volunteers. We expect this to be typically one evening a week.

About the role

Following an external and independent gender synthesis review in 2020, Sightsavers’ Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team is commissioning a second synthesis review on gender equality.

The objectives of this exercise are:

1. To understand what has changed in relation to gender equality in Sightsavers programme planning and implementation since the last gender synthesis in 2020

1. To identify achievements, challenges and gaps in relation to improving gender equality throughout the project cycle

1. To explore the link between strategic direction and implementation, and to identify areas that require strengthening

1. To generate a set of learnings and recommendations that can be applied to our programmatic processes and approaches (design, implementation, SBC, MEL), and further inform our strategic thinking and advocacy plans

The purpose of the review

• To assess the progress that Sightsavers has made in gender mainstreaming (in terms of both process and outcomes), following the previous review in 2020.  How far have we progressed on the recommendations and what more needs to be done.  What progress has been made towards achieving equality or equity for women in our programmes.

• To capture and collate operational learning in a form that is useful to Sightsavers, enabling us to review achievements and challenges (i.e. what works, in which contexts and why, and what is inhibiting progress on gender mainstreaming).

• To identify discussion points and key learning about the organisation’s strategic approach to gender inclusion to make recommendations, where appropriate, on areas that could be strengthened. 

Deliverables

• Write a short inception report in English, covering approach, methods and sources to be used (to include an evaluation matrix). This will be finalised after review by Sightsavers.

• Final report in English, edited after at least two rounds of comments from Sightsavers internal review team, to include an Executive Summary which can be used as a standalone item.

• Short summary document/s or infographic7 covering the key points and recommendations for the main audience groups. 

• Presentation and participation in an internal Sightsavers webinar to share and discuss the gender synthesis findings and recommendations.

About you/your team

Sightsavers welcomes proposals from individual consultants or small teams interested in undertaking this synthesis review. The expected skills and experience include:

• Considerable expertise in gender and particularly, women and girls with disabilities in a developing country context.

• Relevant experience of conducting synthesis reviews of a similar scope/nature. 

• Significant familiarity with the programme themes and contexts in which Sightsavers works.

• Good knowledge and understanding of current gender concepts, trends and discourse in the development context.

• Creative approach to presentation of review findings for key audiences.

• High standard of written and spoken English in appropriate styles for key audiences.

• Sufficient understanding of accessible document design to comply with Sightsavers’ guidance on this (guidance and a briefing will be provided during induction).

About the role:

This role is based in Rochdale Police station along with some hybrid working, you must be prepared to travel across the borough of Rochdale.

As a CYP IDVA you will deliver specialist and enhanced support to Children and Young People aged 4-17 who have experienced Domestic Violence Abuse in the home. You will be responsible for providing high quality interventions to children & young people affected by DVA through the development of individually tailored & risk assessed support and safety plans. You will offer support through one-to-one sessions to address issues of self-esteem, manage emotions and feelings of blame and responsibility with the aim to improve understanding of abusive behaviour, healthy relationships and conflict resolution.

You will need:

To conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments and ensure each CYP receives an individual tailored support package that fully meets their identified needs, including safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.

To advocate on behalf of children and young people with experience of domestic abuse to ensure the diverse needs of children and young people using the service are met.

Provide one to one support to children and young people living in families affected by domestic abuse.

The ability to review the assessment of risk on an ongoing basis, ensuring appropriate and immediate action is taken in respect of any CYP facing significant harm, making the necessary referrals to MARAC and local safeguarding processes as required given the legal framework relating to the protection of children and the policy and procedures of the Local Safeguarding Children's Board.

To establish links with relevant statutory partners in Social Care, Education, Health, Police and Housing, with the intention of supporting children and young people who have been impacted by domestic abuse. Attend meetings as required.

Ideally a background in Social Worker, Domestic Abuse or Children & Young People services would be advantageous.

Key responsibilities include but are not exhaustive;

• Create a safe and stimulating learning environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect considering pupils’ sensory needs.

We are looking for a Fundraising Officer with the right experience, motivation and commitment to driving fundraising to secure vital funding to significantly improve access to cycles for all, The Bikeability Trust’s existing programme portfolio as well as future programmes to create a sustainable source of income in line with the Trust’s strategic approach.

The Fundraising Officer will similarly provide support to the Trust’s existing events as well as developing fundraising events that contribute to the Trust’s wider objectives.

The Bikeability Trust

Responsibilities

· Working closely with the Corporate Partnerships Manager to drive the Trust’s fundraising appeals and events

· Working with the Corporate Partnerships Manager to develop an appeals strategy that looks to establish and grow fundraising from individuals

· Cultivating and recruiting new and existing supporters, donors and fundraisers to actively engage in the fundraising and events activities

· Establish, develop and manage a volunteer appeals board, made up of internal and external stakeholders

· Working effectively with teams across the Trust, to support on Trust-led events including MP visits, partner events, media visits and the Bikeability conference.

· Support the Trust’s Development and Quality Assurance teams to develop income generation opportunities through the Trust’s programme-focussed products.

· Support the Corporate Partnerships Manager in providing excellent stewardship and account management to the Trust’s bank of existing partners.

The Region

The successful candidate will be based within/adjacent to this region to enable them to fulfil the travel requirements of the role.

About Women in Prison

Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation.  We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.

Job Purpose: 
The ‘Creating Community Connections Project’ is a Domestic Abuse (DA) Services pilot, sponsored by HMPPS and led by Women in Prison working in partnership with a number of women’s centre providers, Anawim, Together Women and The Nelson Trust.

The project aims to connect women in prison who have experienced DA with vital specialist community support services across the country, especially domestic abuse services and women's centres. The Link Worker is responsible for the provision of 1-2-1 advocacy and structured support to women with a history of/current experience of domestic abuse currently residing in HMP Styal.

Key Responsibility Areas

1. To provide ad-hoc and in-depth 1-2-1 advocacy support to women in HMP Styal who have a history of/current experience of domestic abuse.
2. To recruit, train and support a network of Women’s Champions – women serving sentences at HMP Styal – to co-facilitate service delivery of the Creating Community Connections Project.
3. Provide Through the Gate support to women leaving custody, where applicable to the role and delivery of the project.
