Main duties and responsibilities
1. Gather available information about a detained person whose case has been referred to Medical Justice
2. Assess the detained person’s needs and the relevant Medical Justice resources available that could assist them
3. Raise any immediate concerns about your client appropriately within Medical Justice and beyond
4. Prioritise referrals (in collaboration with the Casework Manager and the rest of the casework team)
5. Agree a plan of action with the Casework Manager to ensure as many resources as appropriate are marshalled to assist the detained person regarding:
a. Collating of existing medical evidence regarding the detained person and generating new medical evidence, including medico-legal reports (MLRs) and professional letters produced as a result of Medical Justice clinicians’ assessments in detention and/or remotely at your request
b. Challenging any inadequate healthcare provision
c. Facilitating access to good legal representation to challenge detention and to make the best use of the medical evidence we provide, and establish any availability of Legal Aid Agency funding for MLRs and interpreters
d. Facilitating access to appropriate support including accommodation and access to healthcare on release from detention
6. Obtain relevant consent from detained clients
7. Gather further required information needed about a detained client, including medical records, files held by the Home Office, and the detained client’s legal documents
8. Carry out various other actions agreed by the Casework Manager to implement the above plan. This may include:
a. Arranging medical visits to detainees
b. Liaising with healthcare providers in the immigration removal centre (IRC)
c. Liaising with detained clients
d. Finding appropriate legal representation for a client
e. Signposting or making referrals to other organisations
9. Provide information to the Office Manager for booking medical visits and interpreters
10. Continually update the case-management system
11. With support from the Casework Manager and Clinical Advisor/clinical reviewers, ensure medical evidence generated is accurate and aligned with instructions from any legal representative and Medical Justice guidance
12. Continually feedback to the staff team any intelligence regarding immigration detention conditions
13. Assist the Casework Manager to provide a monthly report for Trustees on the number of referrals, outcomes and Medical Justice clinicians engaged, noting any areas of concern
14. Collaborate with other staff and partner organisations in activities to secure lasting change including litigation, research, policy work and media work. This could include identification of cases, assisting in getting consent from detained clients, and contributing to briefings and witness statements
15. Where required, attend other meetings and events as agreed with the Casework Manager, including Trustee meetings and events with partner organisations.
16. Assist in other Medical Justice activities, including clinician and interpreter training .
17. Respect and comply with Medical Justice's policies and procedure, including clients’ confidentiality, equality and diversity, health and safety, and vulnerable adults.
General
18. To work flexibly as a member of the team and the organisation and undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities at the request of the Casework Manager.
19. To assist the smooth running of the organisation, working with other Medical Justice staff, and the Trustees to meets its overall objectives, including participation in periodic performance and training reviews, and contribute to organisational development. Also, attending and assisting with relevant events as appropriate.
20. To promote Medical Justice policies including our anti-discrimination policies.
21. To be self servicing, pro-actively share relevant information and expertise within the organisation and keep all records, statistics and information in accordance with Medical Justice policy and practice.

Big Issue Changing Lives CIC is looking for an Support and Outreach Assistant to support the direct the direct delivery of services to individuals participating in Big Issue enterprises, including selling the Big Issue magazine. The core of the role is facilitating access for members of our Roma Communities to the Hand Up Service and other local services, resources and networks required to address the barriers they are facing to moving forwards out of poverty. Where local services and resources are not available you will also support the Outreach Team with the delivery of information, guidance and some direct interventions, such as training sessions, directly.
This is self-starter role in which you’ll be responsible for connecting with potential service users within the Roma community, introducing the service to them, sharing information from our Hand Up plus services and supporting them to engage with the core Hand Up service. You’ll be working within a small team of Outreach workers and will work to maintain a set of Service Standards which help maintain the quality of the service nationally.
The role is highly flexible and no two days are the same. You’ll bring your own experience and knowledge to the role, as well as your ability to speak Romanian. We will support you to build on that through an ongoing training and development programme which aims to ensure all Hand Up Service Team members have up to date, relevant, knowledge in key areas including housing, benefits, debt, immigration and more. In the course of a day, you’ll usually be working with service users across multiple of these issues and supporting engagement with a wide range of external agencies such as health services, local authorities, charities and more, to get access to services for those you are supporting.
Your main roles and responsibilities will be:
- Undertake phone and in person outreach to introduce the Hand Up service to Roma Big Issues vendors
- Delivery of direct intervention to Roma vendors using guidance and resources provided
- Join meetings with Roma Vendors and Outreach Workers to support with action planning and provision of support and guidance
- Support with translation and interpretation within your local team to enable accessibility of the service for Roma vendors
- Support the local Hand Up Service to build current knowledge of local and national agencies that can support Roma vendors

The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a specialist UK charity which provides expert care and support survivors of torture, trafficking and other extreme human cruelty. We work with hundreds of clients every year from all over the world.
The expertise of the Foundation is renowned in the field. Through the Model of Integrated Care, HBF offers survivors access to an individually tailored programme of specialist therapy, medical advisory services, legal protection including providing expert medico-legal documentation, welfare and housing support, and creative and skills activities within an integration programme. Survivors of human trafficking benefit from HBF’s counter-trafficking programme of support.
The Role
This is an opportunity to join HBF’s specialist multi-disciplinary team, working alongside experts in asylum and immigration law, and trauma-informed ways of working. The purpose of this role is to lead on HBF’s legal and policy work as it relates to our survivor of trafficking clients alongside our Director of Policy. The Counter Trafficking Legal and Policy Specialist will split their work between HBF’s legal and policy teams – spending three days on legal work and two days on policy work, while also liaising with the multi-disciplinary team to manage client needs and ensure expert collaborative working.

As is the nature of work in this sector, the role will expose the postholder to traumatic and distressing material and, whilst they will be supported by their line manager and the surrounding team, they should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of the self-care principles needed to manage working in an intense work environment and be able to collaborate in the dissemination of those principles to other members of the team.

Prospect Research Officer
Do you have experience in prospect research? Are you able to build positive relationships with others? Great news, we have a role in our Fundraising team that may be right for you.
We are recruiting a Prospect Research Officer to work full time (37.5 hours per week) on a permanent contract. We are based in our London office, we would love to see you there for our team planning days and in person meetings, but we are fully flexible to where the work is done the rest of the time. There may be events on occasions (4-5 events per year) we would like you to attend in London.

What will your day look like as a Prospect Research Officer?
· Undertake research to identify new major donors, trusts and influencers
· Implement and develop prospect research strategy to ensure a steady flow of prospects into the High Value pipeline
· Manage and solicit gifts from a small portfolio of prospects
· Support the Senior Philanthropy Manager with the development and cultivation for our major donor programme
