About the role:

You may be a qualified IDVA or a Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker wanting to work alongside health professionals.

This role involves both face to face and virtual support. There is an expectation that you will do a mixture of working from home, our office in Old Street and in co-location at Northwick Park Hospital.

As a Hospital Independent Domestic Violence Advocate you will:

• Implement effective ways of working with victims and those supporting them to increase safety and reduce harm.
• Provide a high-quality, front-line service to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a premium service prioritised according to risk, primarily focusing on victim/survivors aged 16+
• Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.
• Be comfortable with running group training sessions and be willing and able to share your specialist knowledge with acute staff across the hospital.
• Have excellent communication skills, a proactive approach and the confidence to be able to influence the way in which this service is delivered are key.

You will need:

Have a knowledge of help-seeking barriers and support needs of victims of domestic abuse (in heterosexual or same-sex relationships).
Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse.
Understand safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
Direct service delivery to victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable people.
Have excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals. Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
Have a strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.

We have a vacancy for a Flourish (Refugee and Asylum Seekers) Community Outreach Worker to join our team, supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health as a primary need, through providing advice, information and holistic support.

About the Service

‘Flourish’ is a highly flexible and responsive outreach service developed to meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Hertfordshire. The aim of the service will be to support refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health support as a primary need.

Purpose of Post

• To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with mental ill health.
• Support to build social networks and reduce isolation whilst settling into the Hertfordshire community this includes building a sustainable and empowering peer support network and building confidence and self-esteem.
• To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
• To work in a trauma informed way including awareness of the 6 principles of trauma informed practice, putting the clients emotional and practical needs at the forefront of this work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Working closely with all key delivery partners across the system to ensure the service is responsive, inclusive and easy to access.
• To take allocated referrals from any agencies including the Community Navigators, Borough and District Councils, Herts Help, Housing Providers, Herts Welcomes Refugees, the Refugee Council and self-referrals including walk in contacts at any of the Mind wellbeing centres across the county.
• Hold a caseload of clients, supporting for approx. 10 weeks
• To create a safe space for the individual to be able to explore their feelings and improve their understanding around their mental health.
• To complete a holistic needs assessment.
• Ensure all person centred risk assessments and support plans are completed.
• Proactively recognise the indicators of deteriorating mental health and facilitate appropriate action, whilst liaising with relevant agencies.
• Support clients to build their emotional resilience, promoting self-management through building an understanding of their own triggers/coping strategies.
• To provide safeguarding intervention support. This will include responding to problems, which pose an immediate risk.
• To work alongside translators when required to provide a robust package of support for clients.
• To accompany clients to initial visits and appointments as necessary in order to ensure the sustained use of existing support services in the Borough.
• To provide advocacy services to clients experiencing mental ill health.
• To assist clients to access appropriate mental health services, housing/tenancy services and other services according to assessed needs.
• To establish effective pathways across a variety of agencies to maximise and provide effective partnership working, working with other third sector and VCSE organisations to provide signposting and continuity of care.

Our expert team of canine behaviourists provide behavioural support and advice to teams within Battersea, members of the public, and the rescue organisations we work with around the world. The team design and help implement behaviour modification and training plans for dogs whilst coaching members of the canine care groups through the practical day-to-day steps. They also assist with behavioural and welfare assessments of animals who come into our centres and are on hand to help manage and provide further support with dogs with more complex behavioural needs. Within this role, you will work with our operational teams in the assessment and welfare of the dogs in our care and in the provision of behavioural training and advice for staff, volunteers, customers and external organisations. You will be working as part of a care group to create behaviour modification plans, support with handling difficult dogs and make recommendations, along with the individual care group, for individual dog outcomes.

About the role 

You'll lead and coordinate our local campaigning work across the Midlands. Your work will help the charity improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s and those who care for them. 

You'll listen to the needs of our local communities to inform your campaign work, and empower them to make change where they live. You’ll work with colleagues across Parkinson’s UK to deliver political campaigns and meaningful advocacy for our community.  Through your campaigns you will ensure that the voices of people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers are heard.

• Recruit and manage a sustainable network of local campaign volunteers.

• Be a first point of contact for supporters and campaign volunteers who want to improve services in their local communities.

• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues and campaign volunteers on how best to challenge and influence decision makers.

• Build close working relationships with our field staff and our local networks. 

• Use our national campaign priorities to deliver related local campaign activity.

What you'll bring 

• Experience of campaigning and an understanding of the basic tools and techniques used in campaigning.

• Experience of working with volunteers and people with lived experience of a cause including how best to support them to achieve their campaigning goals.

• Experience in organising events.

• Ability to network and build supportive relationships with volunteers, MPs and health bodies.

• Experience of delivering training to volunteers and staff.

• Ability to work flexibly, sometimes evenings or weekends.

• Ability to manage and prioritise a diverse portfolio of work.

Role: Service Coordinator - Advocacy Lead

Salary: £35,000 per annum (pro-rata) + £3333 London Allowance - £38,333 per annum, pro-rata

Location: Central London

Contract/Hours: Permanent, Part Time, 30 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

The London IV and Advocacy Service delivers Independent Visitors, Advocacy, Appropriate Adults in Age Assessments and Return Home Interviews for children in contact with Children's Social Service.

How you can create brighter futures

In this role, you will be leading a dynamic and diverse team of employed and freelance children Advocates and Volunteer Coordinators that frontline these services. With casework/advice work managerial experience and a strong understanding of the rights of Children in Need, Looked After Children and Care Leavers - including young refugees and children with disabilities -, and the children safeguarding framework, you will be responsible for the provision of inclusive services to the highest standard, both to children and commissioning bodies.

You will be a key player in delivering continuous services' improvement and innovation, within budget, as well as developing good partnership work with all stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

• Provide a high-quality Advocacy, Independent Visitors, Appropriate Adults and Return Home Interviews services to children and young people.
• Lead a team of Advocates and Volunteer Coordinators delivering services under the relevant National Standards and Guidance.
• Give advice on best practice and the rights of children in need, looked after children and care leavers.
• Collaborate with senior staff and managers to review and evaluate service provision, ensuring continued improvements, driving innovation and business development for an assigned area of work.
• Provide support to children, young people, and families by agreeing and applying interventions, liaising with other agencies and professionals.
• Participate, chair, facilitate and lead multiagency meetings.
• Nurture, develop and promote effective relationships and communication with colleagues, community organisations, partner agencies and other external agencies.

Let's talk about you

You will bring a dynamic approach to leading the Advocacy Service's growth and development, ensuring new approaches to the work are successfully implemented and securing the compliance with the relevant legal framework and applicable standards. You will also support the Independent Visitors Service, as needed, including by supervising volunteer coordinators, and providing cover for the service.

• Significant experience of working with children, young people and families in a multi-agency environment.
• Experience delivering services and promoting service improvement and innovation.
• The proven ability to lead by example with the completion of processes and procedures.
• Advanced experience of chairing, supporting, and contributing to service planning meetings.
• Experience of development and practice of community working, including influencing involvement.
• The ability to produce clear, concise written reports.
• Ability to prioritise workload to achieve and deliver within agreed timescales and within budget.
• Demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of childcare legislation and safeguarding requirements.
